President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday afternoon attended the Passing Out Parade ceremony at the Nigeria Defence Academy in Kaduna State.

The highlight of the event is a combined Passing Out Parade, Commissioning and Oath Taking of 67 Regular Course and Short Service Course 46 at the Nigeria Defence Academy in Kaduna State, today, Saturday.

The president, who arrived at Kaduna International Airport at around 8 in the morning, was greeted on the tarmac by the state Governor, Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai.

Amid tight security, Buhari was later chauffeured in his official car to the venue of the passing out parade at the Nigeria Defence Academy in Kaduna State.

During the ceremony, President Buhari rode in a customized armoured Mercedes-Benz G-Class as he reviews the passing-out parade of the Nigerian Defence Academy NDA.

The President expressed full confidence in the ability of the Nigerian Army to protect the territorial integrity of the nation.

France is planning to increase the sanction, which owners of gas guzzlers must pay to $50,000 (₦22.7m) in 2022.

The move by French Authority is designed to hasten the end of the internal-combustion engine.

An electric car that Elon Musk rocketed into space more than two years ago just flew past Mars for the first time.

SpaceX, the rocket company Musk founded, launched his old Tesla Roadster aboard a Falcon Heavy rocket in February 2018 with a spacesuit-wearing dummy named ” Starman ” at the wheel.

The car also carried a Hot Wheels model of itself with a miniature Starman inside. In storage, it holds a copy of the sci-fi novels “Foundation” by Isaac Asimov and “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” by Douglas Adams, along with a towel and a sign that says ” Don’t Panic .” The car’s speakers even blasted the song “Space Oddity” by David Bowie after launch.

Since then, the rocket’s second stage has glided through space with no fuel to propel it, with Musk’s old red car perched on top of it.

“It’s a rocket stage with a hood ornament,” Jonathan McDowell , an astronomer at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics who independently calculated the Tesla’s close Mars pass, told Business Insider.

The Tesla was supposed to slip into a circular orbit between Mars and the sun. But the mission overshot and ended up on an elliptical path that takes it far past Martian orbit , toward the asteroid belt; it completes an orbit about every 557 days. The car’s trajectory had taken it past Mars orbit before, but at that time the planet was nowhere near the point where Starman intersected its path.

The car made its first close approach to Mars at about 2:25 p.m. ET on Wednesday, passing about 7.4 million kilometers (4.6 million miles) from the red planet, according to McDowell’s calculations. (SpaceX on Wednesday tweeted a similar estimate of “under 5 million miles” for the flyby distance.)

Neither the Tesla nor the Falcon Heavy stage attached to it is sending signals back to Earth, so McDowell calculated its path from the last data available as it left Earth. He used the same gravitational data that NASA uses to steer its space probes.

“It’s a pretty confident extrapolation, because we understand gravity pretty well,” McDowell said. “The only thing that could throw you off is what we call outgassing: If there was leftover fuel, or if the paint job on the Tesla carriage came off, that acts as a little rocket that pushes it forward. But that won’t change it much.”

But Starman isn’t getting an up-close view of the Martian surface. According to McDowell’s math, at that distance the planet would appear to be about one-tenth the size of the moon as seen from Earth.

Innoson Ready to Manufacture Electric Cars
Just as the Presidency unveils auto-gas as an option for fuel in the country, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Limited (IVM), has said the country is all ready for the world of electric car manufacturing.

Chief Executive Officer of the indigenous vehicle manufacturing company, Dr Innocent Chukwuma, said IVM had planned ahead for the new era of innovation in the country’s automobiles and would drive the programme to success.
Dr Innocent Chukwuma who marked his 60th birthday recently disclosed this and said that the auto industry is making enough progress despite the peculiar circumstances.
he said, “The nation is doing its best to spearhead the direction of the industry in Africa. With the support of our citizens, in the next few years, Nigeria would be described as the hub of the auto industry in Africa. “We are very ready and prepared. Presently, we have not started to manufacture vehicle engines, what we are doing is the manufacture of the body of vehicles. So, if electric cars become the ultimate, we will then begin to buy batteries, instead of the engines we presently use. It’s that simple. That’s why I said we are prepared for the coming trend,”.

He, however, said that the local patronage is doing just well, but can do much better.

“It’s understandable that it will be progressively gradual. The corporate citizens, governments at all levels, and individuals are trying their best to patronise us. We are very confident that in the near future, we will have substantial patronage from them. It’s indeed improving steadily.

“Electricity is one of our challenges. Though, it is witnessing a commendable improvement. Actually, when we started there were a lot of challenges but today the government has done a lot to support the industry. We started when there was no electricity at all. But there is a lot of improvement today.”

We, however, hope this progress will be made by the automakers to produce the first electric vehicle locally made in Nigeria.
