The time is 20:40pm. A young woman has been thrown out of her matrimonial home by her husband after he’d used his fists and then his belt on her… Don’t be too quick to reason domestic violence. From the husband’s reply to neighbors who cared enough to ask the “usual wetin happen, kilo șelę”; this woman doesn’t know where to draw the line between her husband and her male friends. When the moral wall of the society was still very strong, it wouldn’t be heard (not to talk of seen) that a woman/man have thisclose male/female friends unknown to their spouses; it was an outright tufiakwa matter, even colleagues at work were known to spouses. These days that public display of affection (PDA), passed down to us by the western world is the order of the day, it is common (especially among young people) to call any random person honey, sweetheart, boo, my love and pet names like these and act same way even when you’re very much “taken”. As endearing as the practice is, it must be mentioned that not every guy/girl has grown enough emotionally to bear the feeling of fondness that comes with being called pet names without cooking up romantic emotions (even in places they don’t exist). On this fateful day, this woman was escorted to her bus stop by a male colleague (a crush more aptly; the husband has severally seen them both in places and proximity too close for comfort) in her workplace. Coincidentally, the husband just alighted from a Keke, he was going home too. He could see his beloved playing Juliet to another Romeo from where he stood at the other side of the road. They were going back and forth and touching each other in a way unbecoming for a married woman. He decided to do a nollywood on them and watched this movie to the end so that no action would be left out incase someone else was to narrate the story to him. When “to be continued” appeared on the screen. He gave his wife few minutes to get home. He immediately followed her. On getting home he didn’t exchange pleasantries with neighbors like he usually does. He went straight to the wife and without any question began to pounce on the woman with punches and later his belt until neighbors came to her rescue. According to the husband, the woman has had this challenge since when they were dating. He’d report her to the dad but baba was positive marriage would change her. Well, somebody should tell the old man that marriage didn’t or hasn’t change her. Perhaps a better upbringing would have done what he expects marriage to fix. Marriage has only magnified a weakness that could have been corrected long time ago. There is a lesson here; young people have so many baggage of relationship issues before and during marriage, personal and social. They tell themselves marriage will change it. Marriage won’t my dear. It’ll only magnify your strength or your weakness, depending on which is dominant. Up until now, I still wonder why and how my #first love could forget about me patapata in spite of howclosewewere. Now, I’m learning that some experiences are better when prevented rather than leaving them till they are full blown and then looking for a one-cure-heal-all-solution. https://theexcellentway./2017/04/10/singles-work-on-your-personal-weaknesses-marriage-wont-fix-them |

.. That night was the first time I learnt that when a single guy lays his bed (neatly) before leaving home in the evening he's probably going to hunt for a woman to sleep on the bed with him through the night. I'd gone out for my usual night walk after dinner when Seyi called to know if I'm at home so he could come visit. Those visits guys embark on to take a break from hardcore jacking to check if your pal cooked beans. " I'm in front of school". I replied. He went to my room anyway since he had my spare key. In my night walk I go out to savour the brightness of the headlamps of cars making their way into the entrance of the University's front gate and also to observe things that happen when students finish night reading. Behind the wheels were usually working class bigger boys who come into the campus to price babes beyond the reach of Students. Joke was not one of the runs babes though she had close friends who were in high demand. Joke was a dedicated Christian the most active in the fellowship prayer unit. This was what endeared her to me being a "jim-jim" brother myself... I had set the minimum requirement my would-be wife must meet to be ability to pray for at least an hour. I'd add "I wont be at home at all times and that shouldn't be a reason for the family altar to die". I love Joke so much and every body knew it. Her friends would tease her each time I came around with words to the effect of how lucky she was to have me, the way ladies do when they approve of their mates' lover. Was I a lover to Joke? I would say an emphatic yes were it all up to me but as far as Joke was concerned I was only just good enough for friendship. I was the "lover" with which she scares off troublesome guys. The mayour of her friendzone. I never knew Joke actually had same feelings for me but why she never admitted them with words I don't know. Her action speaks volume of her love but for a guy like me words are to relationship what a C of O is to an undeveloped piece of land. Why won't two people madly in love be together... I don't know. I returned home that night after my walk and met Seyi lying on my bed. He sprang to life on hearing my knock-knock on the door net. "Na stroll you go stroll na im you dress bed fine like say you wan go carry woman come" he jested. |

DeSepiero:I think you're are saying the wages of tax defaulters is jail. Are you in essence saying God doesn't care whether a believer defaults in tax and other civic duties.. For the question being sensible or not, you have no idea what makes sense to me or not. Thank for your contribution |
amerimex:We need orientation , I agree with you. Bear in mind also that my use of hell for tax defaulters doesn't connote heaven for those who pay tax. The set of Christians I have in mind before asking this question are those who're righteous in all things except tax and other civic duties. I appreciate your comment |
I can't stop thinking about this in the past few days... Will a Christian go to hell for not paying tax seeing that payment of tax is encouraged in the Scriptures (Rom 13:1-6 and Mark 12:16-17). Now no adult I know pays tax. I understand everything goods and services we pay for have been taxed albeit I know that's not the only tax we're to pay. There are many justifiable reasons why most people don't pay tax in Nigeria these include : 1. Lack of confidence in the government 2. Corruption 3. Infrastructural decay despite past tax adherence 4. Multiple taxation Should a Christian continue to pay tax regardless whether he sees the effects or not, Can he use the above "justifiable reasons" to avoid tax? Will God excuse him on that ground? Will he go to hell for civil disobedience? Please, people of Faith Let's contribute. |
