A herbalist, Francis Omeife, narrowly escaped death on Wednesday at Okpoko in Ogbaru area of Anambra State when an irate mob stormed his place and almost lynched him for atrocities he committed.

Omeife was accused of using women’s underwear, toy babies, hair, shoes, clothes, bras, among other items as part of his ritual materials.

His alleged atrocities came to the light when a woman he had reportedly held ‘spiritually’ hostage for over five years, Chinenye, reported to her friend, Chioma, that she saw her pants among other women pants being used for ritual by the native doctor.

Chioma went with her friend to the native doctor’s house at 1, Ezeakunne Street and saw her pants with others in some pots of concoctions. She screamed, which attracted neighbors, mostly women. To their utter disbelief, some of them also saw their own pants and other items on display.

The native doctor was said to have dragged the items with them and in the process youths in the area stormed the place. They started hitting..........

Top Yoruba actor, Sikiru Adesina, popularly called Arakangudu, who died in the early hours of Tuesday, in Kaduna, will be buried on Wednesday (today) in his hometown, Osogbo, Osun State, The PUNCH has learnt.

The news of his death has provoked emotions online, with some of his fans paying glowing tributes to him.

Speaking with our correspondent on the telephone from his base in Ekiti State, veteran thespian, Chief Jimoh Aliu, said those with the late actor broke the news of his death to him on Tuesday morning.

He said, “I was called by those who were with him. They told me that he died after making a noise from his sleep. They told me he died early this morning.”

Our correspondent learnt that the deceased, who shuttled between his base in Osogbo and Kaduna State, was shooting a movie before the unfortunate incident.

Another celebrated actor, Jide Kosoko, said some theatre practitioners in Osun State called to tell him that Arakangudu died on Tuesday.

He also said his remains would be brought to Osogbo on Tuesday night as preparations had been concluded for his burial today (Wednesday).

Kosoko said, “It was a long time I saw him before this incident. He played his part and contributed to the Nigerian theatre industry.”

On his part, popular comedian, Bolaji Amusan, a.k.a Mr. Latin, told our correspondent that an actress, Toyin Adegbola, popularly called Asewo to re Mecca, called him at 5am on Tuesday to break the news to him.

Amusan added that the deceased would have been buried immediately according to Islamic rites but for the fact that his remains would arrive Osogbo late Tuesday night from Kaduna where he resided till his death.

He stated, “He was a talented actor and a wonderful person. Like him, I belong to Osun Arts Council since I am from Osun State. He spoke Hausa fluently because he lived in the North. I am in touch with..........

A detective with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Junaid Sa’id, told a Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday that the $2m allegedly laundered by the spokesperson for the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh, was part of the N10bn which the immediate past National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), released for the party’s presidential convention in 2014.

The then President Goodluck Jonathan was adopted as the party’s sole candidate at the said convention.

Metuh and his company, Destra Investments Limited, are being prosecuted by the EFCC for allegedly receiving N400m in a fraudulent manner from the ONSA in November, 2014 and also on
charges of money laundering of cash transaction involving $2m.

The EFCC had called as its first prosecution witness, Nneka Ararume, a former employee of Asset and Resource Management Company Limited, who narrated how Metuh handed her the $2m in $100 bills at his house in the Prince and Princess Estate, Abuja.

Sa’id testified as the eighth prosecution witness on Tuesday.

Under cross-examination by lead defence counsel, Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), Sa’id informed the court that Dasuki had withdrawn a sum of N10bn from the Central Bank of Nigeria and converted same to $47m.

He said the money was then given to aides of former President Jonathan for sharing to some PDP members.

Apart from the N400m paid directly to Metuh’s firm’s account from the ONSA’s account with the CBN, Sa’id testified that Metuh got the sum of $2m from the N10bn released by Dasuki.

The witness said under cross-examination:
“In the course of investigation, it was revealed that the former NSA had withdrawn about N10bn from the CBN and converted same into dollars which amounted to around $47m.

“He gave the money to the then Aide de Camp to the then President and his Special Adviser, Domestic, to the then President, to share to some PDP party members for the PDP presidential convention.
The $2m given by the 1st defendant to Nneka Ararume (first prosecution witness) was strongly linked to that disbursement of the $47m, which was converted in November, 2014 and shared out to some PDP members for its presidential convention.

“There is no document in respect of this transaction, because the money was shared in cash. The document is part of the charges......

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that contrary to the claims by critics of his incessant foreign trips, none of the trips he had made so far can be said to be frivolous.

He said there were always political and economic justifications for his trip.

Buhari said this on Friday in London while answering questions from some Nigerian journalists shortly before he commenced a six-day vacation that would end on Wednesday.

Our correspondent obtained the transcript of the interview on Saturday.

It will be recalled that Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, had asked Buhari to stay at home and govern the country instead of junketing from one country to the other.

Fayose had said that the President’s incessant foreign trips were already bleeding the economy with about $1m being spent per trip.

But Buhari said he did not know how Fayose arrived at the figure he gave.

He said, “Every one of my trips can be politically or economically assessed. I recall that the first trip I had was to go to Chad and Niger. The trip was mainly because of Nigeria’s security.

“We campaigned based on three issues -security, economy (employment) and corruption. And then the G-7 invited me to Germany. After that, I went to Cameroon. I then went to the United Nations General Assembly.

“I have not seen any frivolous journey that I undertook. I understand that the governor of Ekiti State said that every trip I make costs Nigeria at least $1m. I do not know how he worked that out but every trip that I have made, there must be economic and political reasons that justified them.

“Those who do not see it the way the government sees it have the right not to agree and say whatever they like. But we will try and give them the appropriate reply.”

Buhari also promised to take his administration’s ongoing anti-corruption war to all sectors of the economy.

“We have to go the whole hog into other sectors because unlike what some people believe that the fight against corruption is selective, although they have failed to define the selectivity in their own understanding, there is no way we can get a public officer on record that has misappropriated public fund and we will leave him alone.

“It is one of the undertakings that the Federal Government made and we are going to see it through,” he said.

Former Nigeria President Olusegun Obasanjo said the over 200 girls abducted by Boko Haram in Chibok, Borno State may never be found because their whereabout is unknown..

He stated this on Friday, February 5 while fielding questions during the Seventh Roundtable with Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, a programme organised by Obafemi Awolowo University Staff Club.
"The search for the abducted Chibok girls may not be fruitful. Nobody can bring back the girls because they are nowhere to be found." he said.
Obasanjo blamed former President Goodluck Jonathan for ignoring the distress call to rescue the girls on the day they were abducted.
"The former president heard about the kidnap 8am in the morning of the abduction but failed to act until 72 hours later and by then it was too late."

THE woman who gave me a substance told me that it was a charm meant to endear my husband to me. I never knew that what she gave me was acid.

All I was trying to do was to keep my husband’s love so that he would not think of leaving me, because I know that my marriage with any other man would not endure because of my barrenness.”

These were that words of Remi Agunbiade (38), a resident of Ita Barika, Foko area of Ibadan, Oyo State, after she was arrested by the policemen from Iyaganku Division over an alleged attempt to kill her husband, one Olawale Shola, by pouring acid on him on January 27, 2016.

The incident occurred less than 24 hours after a similar happening at Oje area of Ibadan where a man allegedly poured a bottle of acid on the mother of his two kids for reasons best known to him.

But the difference is that while the Oje suspect ran away after committing the act, the Foko victim, Shola prevented his assailant from escaping as he ran after her and held her until neighbours came to assist him in preventing the lady from running away.

Crime Reports learnt that the Foko incident happened at about 9a.m while Shola was lying down in a room he stayed with his partner, Remi.

In an interview with Remi after her arrest, the lady, who also got some of the acid on her skin, claimed ignorance of the substance she poured on her partner, saying that she thought it was a love charm.

According to her, “I met Shola in 2003 and we have been together since then. He was the one who forced me to abort for him twice, and since then, I have not been able to get pregnant again. Then, he had a wife with two kids.

“When I had my first pregnancy, he said that his wife was also pregnant with their third child, asking me to abort mine, which I did. He used to schedule his stay between the two of us.

The identities of some of the victims of a mass murder carried out by some suspected ritualists in Enugu State last Monday have been revealed.

On Monday, the decomposing bodies of 3 tricycle operators Samaila Abdullahi, Babangida Sale and Shaibu Dauda and two others were spotted on the foundation of a building in Ugwuaji village.

The Chief Imam of Enugu Central Mosque, Alhaji Rukalmeni Saidi narrated how the trio met their untimely deaths.Hear him:

Abdullahi was last seen around 6:30pm at Garriki, Enugu, where he had dropped passengers he picked from New Artisan Market to Garriki.

Sale was last seen around 10pm at a joint where he drank tea after which he also picked some passengers who were suspected to have killed him.

Dauda, was last seen at the Enugu Central Mosque, Owerri Road, where he observed the evening prayer (Magrib) with other faithful. After the prayer, he left the mosque to go and pick passengers around 7pm.

On how they discovered the bodies of the deceased, the Chief Imam said:

THE Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in Kaduna State, Professor Ibrahim Garba, has said the Chairman of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has pledged to build 10 student hostels in the university.

Speaking at the 38th convocation ceremony of the university in Zaria on Saturday,he disclosed that the building of the hostels would address the problem of hostel accommodation in the university.

According to him, ‘for the past 35 years, no hostel had been built in the university, adding that the university which had a student population of 40,000 students, could only give accommodation to only 11,000.

The vice chancellor who lauded the former Minister of Defence, Gen T.Y. Danjuma for donating N2bn for the construction of faculty of sciences also commended two former students of the university, the former governor of Taraba State, Danbaba Suntai for building a 260 seater lecture....

The father of a 12-year-old Pennsylvania girl who was K!lled while a constable was serving an eviction notice has been charged with criminal homicide in his daughter’s death, prosecutors said.
Don Meyer allegedly pointed a loaded semi-automatic A$$ault rife at the chest of Constable Clarke Steele as they argued over an order to vacate on January 11.
Steele fired one round, which struck the 57-year-old father in the arm and then pierced the chest of his daughter, Ciara, who was hiding behind him. She died at the scene.
She had been home from school that day because she was sick.

Prosecutors upgraded charges against Meyer on Thursday. He now faces counts including criminal homicide, involuntary manslaughter, aggravated A$$ault, endangering the welfare of children and illegal possession of weapons.

He is being held without bail in Pennsylvania’s Perry County Jail and has pleaded not guilty.

Police arrested a Georgia medical professional who they say for years duped kind-hearted loved ones and strangers into thinking she had Stage IV ovarian cancer to walk away with at least $25,000 in donations, free trips and gifts.
Mary Bennett, 29, spoke of her battle with cancer on social media for years, writing about the things she still wanted to cross off her “bucket list” and thanking friends for their generosity as they donated to her cause, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s office told INSIDE EDITION.

The licensed practical nurse’s ambitions to live life to the fulL£st inspired those around Bennett, who officials said was treated to a wide range of experiences financed through fundraisers and gifts.
Trips and experiences included skydiving, a trip to New Orleans, a hot air balloon ride and a trip to Houston, Texas for a supposed medical treatment made possible by a local fundraiser that brought in $4,000, officials said.
“I just wanted to tell you all, thank you! I am so very appreciative for the donations and the orders that people have placed… It’s certainly hard going thru cancer at any age. But for this to be the 2nd time in my short 27 years has certainly made me wiser and humbled,” Bennett wrote on a Facebook page created to raise funds for her cause.

Bennett, whose Twitter bio noted she was “a nurse… I’m also an Ovarian Cancer Survivor!” claimed to have been diagnosed with Stage III ovarian cancer in 2013. She wrote on Facebook that she was laid off from her job in August of that year and was struggling to pay her bills.
“I can promise that once I’m better I will pay forward your kind acts through my career as a nurse and through donations,” she wrote. “Again thank you all so much! It truly means the world to me!”

But Bennett had never been diagnosed with cancer, according to officials and that there was no record of her receiving treatment anywhere.

Rob Spence lost the use of his eye following a shooting accident when he was nine.
But decades on, the Canadian documentary maker had the idea of replacing the eye with a camera.

Spence - who now calls himself Eyeborg - said the eye-cam allows him to conduct interviews without the intrusion or distraction of bulky cameras or film crews.


But due to the technology within the camera, it can only be used for three minutes at a time without overheating.

A baby girl, dressed and abandoned by her mother in a biscuit carton near Eco Bank, along Ikot Ekpene Road, Uyo, died after hours of battling for survival. The baby, who was said to have been abandoned by her mother at about 11:30pm on Friday, died around 11:58am on Saturday after many hours of crying for help. A resident of the area, Mr. Okon Isaac, told a Punch correspondent that the baby became pale after a long period of crying for her mum’s comfort before passing out.

Isaac said he wanted to check if Total Filling Station along Ikot Ekpene Road, Uyo had begun to sell fuel when he heard a baby cry near the refuse bin, dressed neatly and dumped in the biscuit carton.

According to him, he was perplexed and had to suspend buying fuel and kept watch over the baby since 5:47am thinking that the mother might change her mind and come back for the baby. He stated that the baby’s cry from the carton drew the attention of a large number of people.

Isaac added that people were scared to touch the baby to avoid being accused by the police of trying to steal or kidnap the baby. “I have been here since 5:47am.

I wanted to buy fuel from Total, which only sells the product when available between the hours of 4 and 6:20am. After this time, they stop selling pretending not to have the product. “As I was passing, I heard the cry of the baby. I began to wonder where the baby was crying from. But when I got near the refuse bin, just off the road, I saw a baby girl neatly dressed and dumped in a biscuit carton.

“I could not go to Total in search of fuel again. I stayed behind to observe if the mother of the baby might change her mind and come back for the baby. And before long, people started to troop in as they heard the cry of the baby.

“But as we live in a period of child theft and selling of children for money, people were scared to touch the baby. They all stood helpless, should anyone risk lifting the baby, and the police happen to be around, the individual can be accused of child theft, or whatever,”
he said.

The Punch correspondent called the police emergency number to inform them of the abandoned baby, but the police said...
