Business / The Ghana Cedi Has Emerged Best Currency In Africa For The First Quarter Of 2021 by Kbroker: 12:54pm On Apr 04, 2021
The Ghana cedi has emerged best currency in Africa for the first quarter of 2021. This year's first-quarter performance of the Ghana cedi against the dollar is similar to its 2020 performance.

The Ghana cedi was ranked among 15 important African currencies including the Egyptian pound, Nigerian naira and South African rand.

A Senior Economic Analyst at Databank Research, Courage Martey, is reported to have told Joy Business that “the Ghana cedi ended the first quarter of 2021 with yet another impressive performance, similar to what it did in the first quarter of 2020. You will recall that in the first quarter of 2020, the local currency ended the quarter with an appreciation of almost 1.7% against the US dollar and that made it the second most resilient currency in our basket of 15 African currencies, only behind the Egyptian pound.”

He is further quoted as saying “it is quite impressive, against the fact that the pandemic has not yet given way so there is still so much uncertainties within the global financial market space”.

“Immense thanks to the Bank of Ghana's intervention measures, particularly on the FX forward market but the significant inflows of foreign portfolio investments into the bond market especially during the course of this year has been significantly supportive of the Ghana cedi to put up the kind of performance we are seeing in the first quarter of 2021”.

Performance

Ghana cedi 0.55%
Egyptian pound 0.18%
Nigerian naira 0.00%
Tanzania shilling 0.00%
Kenya shilling -0.31%

Health / Re: COVID-19 Update For January 18 2021 In Nigeria by Kbroker: 12:40am On Jan 19, 2021
Nigerians should take the covid 19 serious because there is a huge difference between "being healthy" and "looking healthy". Someone might look healthy from their appearance but that does not translate into being healthy internally.

Covid 19 is more deadly if there is a pre-existing ailment. Most Nigerians do not know if they have pre-existing ailments (diabetes, Hbp etc) we just assume that since we are not sick it automatically means we are healthy.

Please stay safe.

Politics / Why Nigerians Should Not Joke With COVID 19 by Kbroker: 10:01am On Jan 10, 2021
Do you know your health status?

Nigerians should take the covid 19 serious because there is a huge difference between "being healthy" and "looking healthy". Someone might look healthy from their appearance but that does not translate into being healthy internally.

We hardly visit the hospital for medical check-up except when we are sick. For example, we visit the dentist only when we have toothache or decay. Covid 19 is more deadly if the patient has pre-existing ailments. Most Nigerians do not know if they have pre-existing ailments (diabetes, Hbp etc) we just assume that since we are not sick it automatically means we are healthy.

For those saying "have you seen someone that has the virus". Here is my response:

If you are the religious type -How are you able to believe in the existence of heaven and hell when you haven't seen anybody that has travelled there before? Why don't you say heaven or hell doesn't exist because I don't know anybody that has gone there before!

Non- Religious type - Read the news, listen to various people(Celebrities, Politicians etc) who have gone through it.

It's wiser to stay safe than sorry.

Peace.

Crime / The Guy That Shot America's President To Impress A Girl (Video) by Kbroker: 9:39pm On Dec 21, 2020
John Warnock Hinckley Jr. (born May 29, 1955) is an American criminal who, on March 30, 1981, attempted to assassinate U.S. President Ronald Reagan in Washington, D.C. He wounded Reagan with a bullet from a revolver that ricocheted and hit Reagan in the chest. He also wounded police officer Thomas Delahanty and Secret Service agent Tim McCarthy, and he critically wounded Press Secretary James Brady, who was permanently disabled in the shooting.

Hinckley was reportedly seeking fame in order to impress actress Jodie Foster, on whom he had an obsessive fixation. He was found not guilty by reason of insanity and remained under institutional psychiatric care until September 10, 2016. Public outcry over the verdict led to the Insanity Defense Reform Act of 1984, which altered the rules for consideration of mental illness of defendants in Federal Criminal Court proceedings in the United States. Along with Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme and Sara Jane Moore, Hinckley is one of three attempted presidential assassins currently living who are not in prison.

Hinckley became obsessed with the 1976 film Taxi Driver, in which disturbed protagonist Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro) plots to assassinate a presidential candidate. The Bickle character was partly based on the diaries of Arthur Bremer, who attempted to assassinate George Wallace.[4] Hinckley developed an infatuation with Jodie Foster, who played a sexually trafficked 12-year-old child, Iris Steensma, in the film.[8] When Foster entered Yale University, Hinckley moved to New Haven, Connecticut, for a short time to stalk her.[2] There, he slipped poems and messages under Foster's door, and repeatedly called and left her messages.

Failing to develop any meaningful contact with the actress, Hinckley fantasized about conducting an aircraft hijacking or committing suicide in front of her to get her attention. Eventually, he settled on a scheme to impress her by assassinating the president, thinking that by achieving a place in history, he would appeal to her as an equal. Hinckley trailed President Jimmy Carter from state to state, and was arrested in Nashville, Tennessee, on a firearms charge. Penniless, he returned home. Despite psychiatric treatment for depression, his mental health did not improve. He began to target the newly elected president Ronald Reagan in 1981. For this purpose, he collected material on the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

Politics / Lagos To Shut Ojota’s Axis Of Main Carriage Way Of Ikorodu Road For 3 Months by Kbroker: 3:02pm On Sep 21, 2020
The Lagos State Government has announced the shutdown of the entire length of the main carriageway of Ikorodu Road from Ojota interchange to Ojota Second Pedestrian Bridge from Monday, September 21, 2020, for a duration of 3 months.

This is development is part of the next phase ongoing rehabilitation work on Ikorodu Road which is set to commence from the Ojota Interchange to Ojota Second Pedestrian Bridge and the Service lane inbound Lagos.

While making the disclosure, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Frederick Oladeinde, advised all motorists to utilize alternative routes suggested during the stipulated time for the repairs following the closure of the entire length of the main carriageway for reconstruction work.

Oladeinde in his statement said, “Vehicles coming from Maryland will be diverted at Odoyalaro into the Service lane and the BRT Corridor to link back the main carriageway at Ketu bus stop and Demurin junction respectively.’’

The commissioner gave an assurance that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other law enforcement agencies will be available to direct traffic for free vehicular movement during the entire period of construction work.

While soliciting for the cooperation and support of residents and motorists that ply the axis, the Commissioner stated that the project is aimed at finding a lasting solution to the ever-busy road as well as to achieve the present administration’s traffic management and transportation policy objectives.

Politics / Opinion: Tinubu's Political Career Is Not Over Until by Kbroker: 12:29pm On Jun 25, 2020
It's surprising seeing a lot of political pundits saying Tinubu's political career is over. The truth is that in the game of politics, it is not over until the final whistle is blown.

Tinubu's political structure is still formidable despite the current crises rocking the ruling party until Giadom's is able to scale through upcoming litigations surrounding the legality of his ascension as acting National Chairman.

The Hurdles:
1. The validity of the ex-parte order Giadom is laying claim to;
2. APC Constitution on the procedure for selecting Acting Chairman.

The fact is that the game is not over until the Supreme court says the ex-parte order received by Giadom is valid as at 25th June 2020. If otherwise, all decisions at the NEC meeting led by Giadom would be rendered null and void. Therefore, solidifying Tinubu's structure and also exposing his real enemies.

All fingers crossed.

Politics / Kenya Governor Under Fire After Putting Hennessy Bottle In Covid 19 Care Package by Kbroker: 5:42pm On May 01, 2020
Nairobi, Kenya (CNN)Recipients of Nairobi politician Mike Sonko's Covid-19 care packages can expect to receive the typical food staples except for one item -- alcohol.

Sonko, the governor of the Kenyan capital city, Nairobi, confirmed in a media briefing on Tuesday that his care packages include a few small bottles of the cognac, Hennessy.
The governor justified the inclusion of alcohol as "throat sanitizer."
"I think from the research conducted by the World Health Organization and various organizations, it has been believed that alcohol plays a major role in killing the coronavirus," Sonko said in a video.

But the World Health Organization has explicitly stated that alcohol does not protect against coronavirus, and advises people to minimize its consumption.
In a post released by the WHO on Tuesday, the organization said that alcohol can weaken the health of an individual and make them more vulnerable to viruses including coronavirus.

Githinji Gitahi, the CEO of Amref Health Africa, a medical nonprofit, in a post on Twitter condemned Sonko's claim and appealed to Kenyans to dump the alcohol.
This isn't the first time Sonko has been met with public scrutiny. The governor was arrested late last year on corruption charges, and was forced to surrender some of his duties to the national government.

Meanwhile, Hennessy has refuted through local media the claims by the Nairobi governor that its drink in particular or alcohol in general can ward off coronavirus contagion.
"Hennessy would like to stress that the consumption of our brand or any other alcoholic beverage does not protect against the virus," reads part of its statement to Nairobi News.
Foreign Affairs / India Extends Nationwide Lockdown For 2 Weeks, With Some Exemptions by Kbroker: 5:33pm On May 01, 2020
The Indian government has extended its nationwide lockdown by two more weeks until May 17, but has issued exemptions for certain areas and activities, according to Ministry of Home Affairs. The current measures were set to expire on May 3.

Most travel by air, rail, metro and inter-state movement by road will continue to be prohibited and all schools and colleges will remain closed along with theaters, malls and places of worship.

The Ministry of Home Affairs will allow movement of people by air, rail and road only for select purposes. Over the last few days, the government has arranged for transportation for stranded migrant workers, students and tourists to travel back to their homes.

The government has eased most restrictions in areas the government calls “green zones,” which have not reported new cases of Covid-19 in the previous 3 weeks.

The classification of certain districts into red or orange zones will be evaluated every week. In orange zones, limited movement of individuals and vehicles will be allowed. In red zones, where most activities have been restricted for the past six weeks, will continue to be so.

Across all zones, industrial activities involved in the manufacturing of essential goods — such as pharmaceuticals, medical devices, construction activities, standalone shops and agricultural activities — are permitted. In red zones, e-commerce firms can continue supply of only essential goods.

The order also prohibits movement of individuals for non-essential services from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. local time during the duration of the lockdown. Local authorities have been asked to issue bans on gatherings of more than four people.
