European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Lionel Messi: An Inspiration by kdk4christ: 1:36pm On Mar 12, 2012
Lionel Messi is a delight to watch playing football. Messi plays for Barcelona FC. He is a three-time Fifa World Player of the Year. Five days ago, he scored five times (a Champions League record and also a personal record). Yesterday he scored another two goals. Messi scored 53 goals in 55 matches for his club last season. He already has 50 in 43 matches so far this campaign. Many people believe he is one of the greatest football players the world has even seen.
But Messi has not always been successful.
At age ten , Messi faced a major threat to his future footballing career- a growth hormone deficiency. This would limit his ability to cope with the physical demands of football.
Messi needed growth hormones or he would have stopped growing at 4ft 7in. His father’s health insurance was limited and couldn’t cover the expensive treatment.
The story changed when Barcelona offered to pay for the hormone treatment in return for Messi signing for them aged just 13. Today, Messi is scoring, Barca is winning and both Messi and Barca are happy and successful.
Few lessons.
1. Employers need to see the gold in their staff. In that physically- retarded boy with health challenges was a star of the future. Invest in your staff
2. Your health challenge could seem to be a huge problem, but help is on its way.
3. Nothing limits you. Till date, Messi is relatively smaller than his mates, could be weak but he is still playing excellent footbal. You have no excuse
4. God compensates for your weaknesses. Messi is short. As a result he has a low center of gravity. This makes it difficult for him to fall down easily. Messi has short legs, but they are fast too
5 Finally, don’t make judgement based on today, consider the future. While Messi was playing as a kid, he looked 2 years younger than his mates. If Barca had judged him based on that, they would have lost gold.

Sports / Siasia Seeks Formula To Break Argentina Jinx by kdk4christ: 12:16am On May 22, 2011
Thinking coach
Coach Samson Siasia is seriously searching for the formula that would propel his Super Eagles side to their first win against Argentina when both heavyweights clash in an high profile international friendly match on June 1 at the Abuja National Stadium.
Tagged the Big match by the organisers and sponsors, Guinness Nigeria Plc, this match holding in less than 12 days from now, promises to be replete with fireworks as the Nigerians search for their first ever victory against the Argentines, who on their own, are desperate to maintain the 100 percent winning record over the west Africans.
Coming from an humbling 3-2 defeat in the hands of Togo in the finals of the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Cup in Abeokuta, Siasia, we gathered, is pained with the way his winning record as Eagles coach was ended by the Togolese and is determined to make amends with a good showing against the Argentines, who are a highly rated team in the world.
Both teams have played thrice in the past with the Argentines winning all the games. In fact, Siasia was in the squad that first lost to Argentine 2-1 in a group game at the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the United States of America.
He also lost to Argentina in the final of the 2005 FIFA Under-20 World Championship in the Netherlands and in the finals of the football event at the 2008 Beijing Olympics Games.
A close associate of the former Beijing 2008 Olympics silver-medal winning coach said that Siasia has been devising the formula that would guarantee a n historic Nigerian win on home soil.
“Coach is serious about the match against Argentina because he knows the importance that Nigerians attach to the game and like in everything that he puts his hands into, he does not want to disappoint his fans, most of whom, clamoured for his appointment as Eagles coach.
“Coach wants to break the Argentina jinx. He does not want the trend to continue. That is why he is searching for the winning formula”, he said
Celebrities / Re: Toni Payne Files For Divorce, Reveals How Her Marriage Crashed. by kdk4christ: 5:06pm On Apr 07, 2011
It’s been over a year and a few weeks that singer 9ice and Toni Payne announced their separation, January 8, 2010 was the sad day. A lot has happened – controversies, allegations, war of words; have trailed them for months. Until recently, you couldn’t open pages of newspapers without reading at least a story about their severed relationship and the many tales surrounding it.

For weeks now, Toni has been getting tongues wagging, with many asking questions about who the man the artiste manager has been displaying on her BlackBerry is.

A picture of herself and a slim tall gentleman hugging passionately, looking into each other’s faces like lovers has been her ‘display picture’ on her BlackBerry phone for days; finding its way into many hands, especially curious friends eager to know if the young woman is happily in love again….

Is Toni Payne in love again? Who is the man? Questions are still being asked, but no one has answers yet. Time will tell…Time!

Nairaland / General / Large Shipment Of Weapons Is Seized By Nigeria's SSS At The Port In Lagos by kdk4christ: 11:05am On Oct 27, 2010
A large shipment of weapons has been seized by Nigeria's State Security Service at the port in Lagos city.

The secret police say they intercepted 13 containers some of which had rocket launchers and grenades and other explosives hidden in the floorboards.

An SSS spokeswoman told the BBC she could not say who owned the containers or their intended destination.

But correspondents say the discovery has increased fears of possible violence during next year's elections.

The ship's manifest said it was carrying building materials.

So far only one container has been searched.

"We have made some arrests, but for now the number and names cannot be disclosed," SSS spokeswoman Marilyn Ogar told the BBC.

The BBC's Chris Ewokor in the capital Abuja says security agencies say there have increased surveillance at Lagos port following the bombings on 1 October during celebrations of the 50th anniversary of independence.

In the past politicians have armed young men to use as their private armies and to rig elections.

Oil militants in the Niger Delta - many of whom have disarmed - were originally armed in this way.

A militant group which did not sign an agreement with the government in 2009 to end years of unrest in the oil-producing Niger Delta region is believed to be behind the independence day blasts.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Hitv Clears Air On Epl Rights, Subscriber To Pay Less by kdk4christ: 1:14pm On Aug 10, 2010
AFTER weeks of speculation in the media on issues that led to the loss of the English Premier League rights by proudly Nigerian Pay TV, HiTV, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Hi Media, owners of HiTV Mr. Toyin Subair, finally cleared the air on the controversy surrounding the EPL rights, on Monday, August 9 at the Pay TV expansive office, Ikeja, Lagos.

Subair explained that contrary to the information that made the rounds in the newspapers and other electronic medium that HiTV could not afford the right’s fee, the opposite was the case. “HiTV actually paid the owners of the rights; the issue that came up had to do with the Bank Guarantee which took some time because of the new CBN (Central Bank of Nigeria) regulations. We have been doing business with the owners of the rights for three years now and we have never had any issue concerning payment. We actually paid for the right to broadcast the 2010-2011 English Premier League matches; we had won the rights 100 per cent to air the matches from now till 2013. When the rights owners demanded for a guarantee to cover the two seasons, our bankers had to move fast and assured the owners that they would provide it, but due to the new CBN regulations, they had to follow due process which took some time. However, they were in communication with the owners of the rights and one of the bank’s Managing Director actually called the rights owners to explain the delay. This was on a Monday.”

The bank chief according to Subair explained the position of things and assured the English Premier League board that they will get the guarantee they asked for on Friday. “The rights were withdrawn from us the next day, Tuesday.”

Subair described the development as a “rude shock and disappointing”, even as he assured that everything is on track in HiTV because HiTV has over the past couple of years moved away from building its business model around the Barclays Premier League. “Although we lost the rights, we have over the years grown our brand with other premium content for all.

“I want to correct the impression that HiTV is all about the English Premier League. While we pride ourselves as number one in the area of sports content especially football, HiTV is purely an entertainment Pay TV company with lots of other entertainment content for the viewing delight of its numerous subscribers. However, at HiTV, we have identified live sports as a key component of Pay-TV model. A live sport is the battering ram for pay-television. In sub-Saharan Africa, this live sport is the Champions League, Europa Cup and Premier League. They are important for the rapid attraction of subscribers across all of Africa. It guarantees a healthy minimum subscriber base throughout the year. At the moment we also boast of premium sports content such as the biggest football show in the world, the UEFA Champions League, Carling Cup, Europa Cup and of course Italian Serie A, for sports lovers. But then, HiTV has an array of channels that it continues to acquire (31 channels now and still counting) that cater for all categories of viewers. We are bringing in 10 more new channels in a couple of weeks. For kids, there is Hi Kids, Kids Co and Nickelodeon, for movies, we have Hi Movies, Hi Mix, etc, for news (both foreign and local) there is BBC, Sky News, and Al Jazeera and Hi News, Amuludun, Biscon, TVC etc take care of local programming and for entertainment, Hi Nolly is one of the best movie channels one can get in this part of the world and plans are on to ensure that all the films you watch on Hi Nolly are all new films. We now have a new Channels Manager who is doing the best she can to make this dream a reality. So in the next couple of weeks, it is a new Hi Nolly that you will be seeing. For viewers of religious programmes, God TV, Dove Vision etc are just there to take care of their needs. We just launched a new world class music channel, One Music; there is Wedding TV to cater for the needs of potential couples, what else would one want in a Pay TV?”

He continued: “There is more than enough reason to stay hooked to HiTV and people have stayed hooked to HiTV all seasons. We will continue to grow our business model and invest in all opportunities local and foreign which bring entertainment and information to Nigerians, we will remain focused in our goal of being the preferred highway of delivering the very best of informative and entertaining channels into every home in Nigeria and then the world”, Subair said.

He debunked the rumour that HiTV blamed the loss of the rights on the new CBN regulation. “We are aware of the ongoing reforms in the banking sector and there was no time that HiTV blamed the Central Bank of Nigeria for the loss of the EPL rights, the reforms will be of benefit to all of us and our children in the future, so that is clear.”

On the replacement of Nigezie music channel with the widely acclaimed One Music on the HiTV platform, Subair again refuted the claim in some quarters that HiTV had issues with Nigezie managed by Femi Aderibigbe. “Like every union, Nigezie and HiTV broke up amicably when their lawyers wrote that they wanted to move on. Both HiTV and Nigezie own the channel on equal basis, so our lawyers have began the process of making sure that the process of disengagement is concluded. We had no quarrel and we wish them (Nigezie) all the good things they wish themselves. You can now see that we have launched our own music channel, One Music on August 1 and you will agree with me that it is the best new music channel in this side of the world.”

Hi Nolly and One Music signals are being seen in 10 African countries as well as Europe, America and Canada. “Both Hi Nolly and One Music signals are seen in Ghana, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia, Malawi, Sudan and Eritrea on Wannachi platform and in South Africa we are on Top TV.”

HiTV signals are also on Sky in the UK and in America and Canada on Comcast and Dishnetwork. “We are the most watched African channel in Europe, America and Canada; this has shot up our advertisers’ revenue in recent times.”

From today, the monthly subscription for Premium bouquet of HiTV that went for N6, 000 has been slashed to N3, 500 but the Correct Bouquet still goes for N1, 900. The price reduction plan according to Subair has been in the pipeline since early this year and was scheduled to start this August. “We are going ahead with the plan, so now our valued subscribers can watch premium sport, movies and enjoy music at a far reduced price. Nigerians deserve to enjoy quality programmes at a price that won’t kill them, we would have reduced the price before even if we had the Premiership right because the plan has been hatched for some months now,” he submitted.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Extent Of Barcelona Debt Revealed by kdk4christ: 3:59pm On Jul 27, 2010
A new audit into Barcelona's finances have revealed the club's debt is 442m euros (£369.5m) after a loss of more than 77m euros (£64.36m) last season.

The previous board, led by Joan Laporta, had announced the club was 11m euros in the black at the end of June.

But a new audit carried out by Deloitte for new president Sandro Rosell's team reveals a far less healthy scenario.

The news comes as Barca spokesman Toni Freixa said Arsenal are still refusing to negotiate the sale of Cesc Fabregas.

Fabregas has been the subject of a transfer saga which has run all summer, with departed Barca president Laporta and Rosell both left frustrated by Arsenal's tough stance.

Since having a 35m euro (£29m) bid turned down earlier this summer, Barca have made several attempts to speak to Arsenal, but Freixa says the Londoners are unwilling to budge.

"Arsenal don't want to sit down and negotiate with us. It's not a problem with the wishes of Cesc or of Barca - they simply don't want to negotiate," he said.

Fabregas, who still has five years to run on his Arsenal contract, has stated he would like to play for Barcelona, while Barca players such as Andres Iniesta, Xavi and David Villa have all publicly urged the 23-year-old to leave London for the Catalan giants this summer.

Still, along with Arsenal's unwillingness to enter negotiations, it remains uncertain whether Barcelona could afford what would almost certainly be a weighty fee for the Gunners playmaker.

The audit shows that Barca's costs in the 2009-10 season rose to £400m, with their income at £341.7m.

Barca also had to recently take out a loan of around £125m after falling behind with the payment of player wages at the end of June, while central defender Dymtro Chygrynskiy was hastily sold to Shakhtar Donetsk to raise much-needed funds for the club.

Nevertheless, Barca have already signed striker Villa this summer for £33.4m and are willing to spend as much or even more to bring Arsenal midfielder Fabregas to the Nou Camp, Rossell said earlier this month.

Things to consider:
1: Local station now show a match/week and people prefer to watch it than going to viewing centre, they can watch highlight of the remaining matches.

2. Most people now have HITV at home, so friends and family watch matches together.
3. HITV charges high viewing centre e.t.c.
