Recent survey around Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital reveals that a higher percentage of school pupils are currently at home due to the inability of their parents/guardians to pay school fees no thanks to the present economic recession experienced in the country which according to National Bureau of Statistics is the worst in 33 years.
According to reports, Nigeria had this magnitude of economic decline during the regime of Ibrahim Babangida, when the economy recorded consecutive decline of 0.51 per cent and 0.82 per cent in first and second quarters of 1987.
As at 2018, about 10.5 million of the country’s children aged 5-14 years were not in school. Only 61 percent of 6-11 year-olds regularly attend primary school and only 35.6 percent of children aged 36-59 months receive early childhood education (Unicef). This figures are expected to double up presently with due consideration to COVID-19 and recession.

The SA to governor on entertainment, Akwa Ibom State, Mr David Sargeant a.k.a Utang Akwa Ibom on Tuesday received the executives of Uyo People's Entertainment Movement (U-PEM).

U-PEM which is an umbrella body for entertainers in Uyo local government area is yet to be inaugurated but in line with due process, the president of the association, Ettyluv Pius, the SA on entertainment to the house member representing Uyo State Constituency (Rt Hon Anietie Eka) led the excos in what can be termed as a familiarization visit to the head of the entertainers in the state.

High Point of the meeting was the introduction of the executives with their portfolios to the SA to governor on entertainment and intimating him with the goals and objectives of the yet to be inaugurated association.

In his respond, The SA on entertainment to the governor, Utang Akwa Ibom lauded the leadership of association for thinking outside the box in trying to see how to grow and develop entertainers and entertainment in general in the state. He called for unity of purpose among the leaders and advised against selfishness which according to his is a major barrier for growth.
He further advised the association's executives to be ready for criticisms as they will surly come but charged them to be different from every other existing entertainment groups in the state through their actions and activities.
Utang Akwa Ibom pledged to support the association through every possible means as long as he remains the SA to governor on entertainment in the state.

Your Excellency, on the 4th of February, 2020, the then commissioner for information and strategy, Mr. Charles Udoh, contracted our company for an aerial photography job at the ongoing construction of Eket stadium with a letter of approval for the job from the commissioner.

Your Excellency, During the process of carrying out our legitimate duty which we were contracted for, some group of guys assumed to be thugs who arrived with the commissioner for Youth and Sports, Sir Monday Ebong Uko, manhandled our staffers and equipment which led to the destruction of our Drone which was destroyed beyond repairs by the thugs.

Your Excellency it may interest you to know that we were right there with the letter of approval for the job from Mr Charles Udoh's desk which we presented to Sir Monday Ebong but he disregarded the letter and went ahead to order his boys (thugs) to maltreat our staffers which led to the deliberate destruction of our drone and misplacement of drone batteries as one of the thugs smashed the drone on the floor.

After the whole incidence, we communicated the whole situation to Mr Charles Udoh, met with him twice, and he asked us to take things easy, and promised he was going to make provision for the replacement of our company's property, but to our greatest surprise sir, all efforts towards recovery has proven futile till today.

Your Excellency, it will interest you to know that Rockland House Tv has been a major partner with the ministry of information and strategy and has carried out major aerial shoots of the state government projects and events, and wonder why such an inhumane treatment on our staffers.

Your Excellency, at this juncture, we are afraid to note that if members of the state executive council continues in this manner to destroy tools and equipments owned by startup outfits like ours, we are afraid that the whole idea of Dakkada philosophy will be defeated in the state and such actions will be a discredit to your administration.


Your Excellency, we plead with you as law abiding citizens of our dear state to please come to our aid as the destroyed equipment was a major source of our company's income.
