source: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/09/fg-not-transparent-sincere-in-addressing-rot-in-education-sector-ASUU/ The Bauchi State Chapter of the Academic Union of Universities has said that the union will not shift grounds on their demand for the hundred percent implementation of the 2009 agreement, saying that the federal government is not transparent and sincere in addressing the rot in the education sector. The State Chairman of the union, Dr. Lawan Abubakar who stated this Thursday in an interview at the ASUU secretariat in Bauchi lamented that the federal government and the National Assembly have been gambling and playing politics with the future of students in the varsities by refusing to implement an agreement it consciously entered into with the union four years ago. According to him, “I can recall vividly in 2011 December, ASUU went on strike over this same non-implementation of the 2009 agreement. In January 2012,we sat down again with the government and drafted a memorandum of understanding,(MOU) on how the 2009 agreement will be implemented”. “In the MOU,all the nine demands of ASUU were given deadlines for their implementation. If the government had sincerely followed the MOU,implementation would have been done with in June,2012, but the government kept dragging the issue, without any positive headway”. The ASUU Chairman said the chairman of the implementation committee on needs assessment of universities,Governor Gabriel Suswan did not disclose to the union the source of the 100 billion naira disbursement infrastructural intervention fund to the fifty-one benefiting universities. He said beside the fact that tertiary institutions in the country have not been given their 2013 allocations, Governor Gabriel Suswan has also not disclosed the funding agencies of the 100 billion naira as well as when the government will release the 2013, 400 billion naira intervention fund to tertiary institutions that is due. Dr.Lawan said the federal government disbursement of 30 billion naira for earned allowances of federal government universities was unacceptable to the union because by the analysis that was made in 2012,the cost implication of the arrears that the federal government should bear is eighty-seven billion naira and not 30 billion. http://..com/2013/09/ASUU-strike-fg-not-transparent-sincere.html

The presidency has picked holes in the rumours making the rounds that the sack of nine Ministers by President Goodluck Jonathan had political undertones. Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Political Matters, Ahmed Gulak explained that the decision to unseat the ministers was far from being connected with the current crises rocking the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). President Goodluck Jonathan President Goodluck Jonathan Speaking while inaugurating a 44 member Elders Committee, Gulak at the behest of the Goodluck Support Group (GSG) stated that the unity of the country remained paramount over and above parochial interest of persons or group of individuals in the polity. According to him: “This is the decision of Mr. President. It is his constitutional power to hire and fire. The ministers were working for Mr. President and it has nothing to do with the PDP misunderstanding and disagreement. I believed that ministers who were relieved of their appointments had already contributed their own quota. Apparently referring to members of the “New PDP” faction, Gulak who is the national coordinator of the GSG noted that the PDP-led administration would not be intimidated with the presence of any viable opposition political party. Charging members of the committee to work assiduously to keep both the PDP and the country at peace, he said: “There are some few people who believe that power must always belong to them and who believe you and me cannot lead this country. But we know that in this country, it is God that decides what he wants. No human being is a partner to God. Anybody who tries to assert himself above where God has put us in Nigeria’s political development is only dealing with himself. Power belongs to God. Reacting, former Deputy Senate President, Alhaji Ibrahim Mantu who was one of the Elders assured that with the constitution of the elders committee, the PDP now enmeshed in internal crises would reenact its potency ahead of the 2015 poll. Among members of the 44 elders committee were former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, Sheik Dan Zangar, Rev Yusuf Turaki, Bishop Thomas Okpor, Maj Gen Patrick Aziza (rtd), Senator Victor Ndoma Egba, Bishop C.N William, Sheik Dahiru Bauchi, Prof Jibril Aminu, Gen Yakubu Usman (rtd), Gen Haladu Hananiya (rtd), Prof Jerry Gana, Dr Olusegun Agagu, Dr Okwesileze Nwodo, Senator Tunde Ogbeha, Chibudom Nwuche, Saidu Umaru Kumo, Chief Innocent Chukwuma, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, Chief Solomon Lar, Alhaji Abba Dabo, Lili Gabari, Senator Ibrahim Mantu, Bode Olajumoke, Prof Jibril Aminu, Senator Umar Hambagda, Alha Musa Liman, Aisha Aliyu Zamfara, Aisha Alhassan, Sam Ode, Senator Ayoola Agboola, Patricia Etteh, Dr Eze Kano and Alhaji Danlkadi Maidugu. www.vanguardngr.com/2013/09/2015-jonathan-kicks-off-campaign SEE MORE AT... Ijeoma Mbiaka, a 12-year-old girl narrated how she became a victim to her pastor’s rape plan. The girl claimed that Rev Sampson Otisi, the pastor of her church; Rhema Ministries in Oyeagu Abagana in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State lured her to a hotel, under the pretence of conducting deliverance for her but ended up raping her all through the night. Ijeoma, who is said to have hearing problems claimed she went to the church to seek prayers from the pastor so that she could hear loudly again. However, she said she was lured to the hotel and raped from 9 pm to the next morning and dumped in the hotel room, where she cried until hotel attendants rescued her. Ijeoma who spoke at the Magistrate Court Abagana said she prayed all night reminding the pastor of the consequence of his act, but her pleas fell on deaf ears. The victim came to the court aided as a result of the injuries she sustained during the alleged act. According to her, “It started on a Tuesday when I went to the church for prayers. I have not been hearing clearly with my ears for sometime, so I went to the pastor for prayers and when I told him my problem, he said I should stay behind that he will pray for me after everyone has gone”. “After the session that day, he called me to the backyard and started praying for me. He poured anointing oil into my ear and mouth. He now ordered me to remove my dress and he poured some on my tummy and started massaging it. “After sometime, he started putting his hand inside (Vagina), to which I objected. He said he will leave me if I do not want him to pray for me”. Ijeoma narrated that as usual the pastor had asked her to stay behind, that he will conduct a special prayer for her and her hearing will be okay again. “After the service, only he and his friend were left, he said he will take me to the house and pray for me, but when I objected and told him that my father will kill me, he said I should not mind that nothing will happen to me. “He took me to a hotel, ran upstairs and came back and ordered me and his friend to come with him. He took us up and put his friend in another room and took me to a separate room. “He ordered food for me and hot drink, to which I objected. He said the drink was part of the deliverance that I had to drink it. “He forced it down my throat and when I started to feel sleepy he undressed me and inserted his ‘something’ into me; then he started pushing it in and pushing out. “Even when blood was gushing out of me, he continued to push the ‘thing’ inside. I tried shouting but he covered my mouth, when I could not help myself, I started praying and telling him of the implication of what he was doing to me before God but he kept on”. She said she was only freed the next morning when she regained consciousness and started banging the door of the hotel room asking for assistance. Though Ijeoma said she complained to her mum when she got back after the first incident, her mum, Mrs Ifeoma said she confronted the pastor the next day and he denied putting his hand under the girls pant, claiming he was only praying for her; a defence which led the gullible woman to accept that the pastor meant well. She stated that the truth, however, dawned on her on the following Tuesday when her daughter went to the same church and failed to return home. “I thought she had been kidnapped, in fact I believe this is also kidnap”, said the mother. A copy of medical report issued to her by the Chief Medical Officer of Enugu Ukwu General Hospital, Dr J.O Akuka revealed that she sustained bruises, and a torn hymen. This showed that there was a penetration in her vagina. Ijeoma’s father pleaded with the relevant authorities to help her find justice for her innocent daughter who was violated by a man she trusted to be a Man of God, as the matter is currently before a Magistrate court in Abagana. He said that the pastor had allegedly offered him N500, 000 to keep sealed lips, an offer he rejected, but expressed fears that the pastor may use the money to subvert justice. The pastor, Rev Otisi, who is the senior pastor of a branch of Rhema Church in Abagana refused to make comments when he was approached. His counsel, Barr CC Achi, however, said that the matter was only being engineered by unseen hands from behind as his client occupied a land that is in dispute. “The issue here is land dispute, but these people are being used by someone who is in tussle over a piece of land with our client. “On a separate allegation of being previously charged with the rape of 8-year-old in his church, the lawyer said it was not true, adding that it was meant to paint his client in bad light. ireporterstv.co http://newsinfok..com/2013/09/girl-aged-12-narrates-her-rape-ordeal_13.html

We're less than 24 hours away from Apple's "special event" Tuesday at its headquarters in Cupertino, Calif. It's slated to be a smaller event than usual, but with a twist: There's another media event scheduled for Beijing just nine hours later. Here's a rundown on the latest rumors: Full Coverage: Apple iPhone event Gold iPhone: It may sound trivial, but gold, or "champagne" as some have called it, is one of the most popular after-market colors for iPhone cases. If Apple does introduce a gold iPhone, it will be only the third official color for the main iPhone, joining the classic black and white. iPhone 5C: This is the so-called cheap or lower-cost phone that is aimed at new smartphone buyers and emerging markets. Rather than a metal case, it's expected to be plastic and come in an array of colors. The critical point: How much will it cost? iPhone 5S: This is the new high-end smartphone. The rumors don't point to too many thrilling, breakthrough type features. Possibly a fingerprint scanner for security, a faster processor. It's the off-year refresh, after all. It's the iPhone 6 next year that ought be the real revelation. China Mobile: There have been a number of reports that the company will announce a deal with China Mobile that will allow the carrier to sell the iPhone to its 700 million subscribers. Such a deal might well trump anything else Apple has to say Tuesday. Bye-bye, iPhone 5: With the new iPhone 5C and 5S, Apple is expected to stop selling the iPhone 5, which was released last year. That would be the shortest life span of any iPhone yet. And it will also likely kill off the iPhone 4, which has remained surprisingly popular as a free option offered by carriers in the U.S. Apple Wallet: There's some talk that Apple has a new mobile payment service up its sleeve. This feels like a bit of a long shot. Apple TV: Rumors flared up again that Apple would announce something related to Apple TV when a tech blog reported on import documents that seemed to indicate such a device. It's tantalizing, as Apple has been increasing the amount of content available on its current $99 Apple TV set-top box. And it's been more than a year since the device was updated. But for the moment, this seems to be Tuesday's least likely to be announcement.
