What a wonderful world, what a legend |
In April 2015, a man surnamed Yuan in Changsha, China, was in a car accident. His 17 girlfriends, unaware of each other, showed up at the hospital after seeing news reports. He was later arrested for fraud, having scammed money from some of them. Confirmed by BBC and other sources. After the women discovered each other, they formed a WeChat group called the "revenge alliance" to share details and confront him. Police later investigated, and in May 2015, Mr. Yuan was arrested on fraud charges for allegedly swindling money from the women (including his ex-wife). They discovered that he had been asking many of them for monthly payments, which led to his arrest for fraud. He had already fathered a child with one of the women and was in the process of planning a wedding with another. He likely managed by compartmentalizing his life: dating women in different areas, fabricating stories about travel-heavy jobs, and keeping communications isolated. Reports say he borrowed money from them to fund it all, leading to fraud charges in 2015. Quite the juggling act! https://www.nairaland.com/2445843/chinese-man-17-girlfriends-caught

Regrettably I must agree with the Op. Let’s be honest for a second: The era of "Federal University" dominance in Nigeria is officially in the morgue. The 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings have just been released, and ABUAD (The Ivy League of the Tropics) hasn't just topped the list in Nigeria—it has embarrassed every other institution on the continent. The Bitter Truth for the "Old School" Crowd: World Rank 84: While others are celebrating being "Top 1000," ABUAD is sitting comfortably in the Global Top 100. The African King: Ranking #3 in Africa means Afe Babalola is now doing what the government hasn't been able to do in 60 years. Impact > Paper: While federal lecturers are busy recycling yellowing notes from 1985, ABUAD is #1 in Africa for Clean Energy and Climate Action. This is practical education, not just "copy and paste" research. The Reality Check: If you aren't at ABUAD, you're basically attending a "Historical Monument," not a 21st-century university. Why are we still pretending that UI or UNILAG can compete with a school that has its own Independent Power Project, a World-Class Multi-System Hospital, and a Planetarium? Money talks, and excellence screams. The 2026 rankings have shown that the Billionaire’s Blueprint is the only way forward for Nigerian education. Is it time for us to admit that Federal Universities are now just "Secondary Schools with bigger gates"? Or does anyone still think a "federal degree" is better than a Global Top 100 ranking? Talk your own. Let’s see who is still living in the past. |

Reflecting on the food crisis from a year ago, it is clear how the actions of Northern suppliers shaped the market. At that time, many Northern traders intentionally hoarded essential goods, driving the price of beans as high as 180,000. Today, that same quantity has plummeted to 53,000. Last year, we faced severe shortages of basic staples like onions, tomatoes, and pepper. Northern suppliers boldly claimed they would rather export these products to neighboring countries than sell them locally, forcing the government to step up border policing. In response to this, the Tinubu administration (Asiwaju) strategically approved food import permits. This move has directly countered the hoarding tactics used by these regional suppliers. Many of them took out significant bank loans to stock up on food, betting on continued scarcity to maximize profits. Now that imported goods are stabilizing the market, those who hoarded are facing bankruptcy—a direct consequence of trying to hold the country's food supply to ransom. |
