I have a ML350 2014 with the underlisted codes:

3. P042000
4. p044200

At the moment, the only issue is just the unhealthy loud noise when I start it in the morning.

Car moves fine and performs well.

Kindly recommend possible solution.

Since you have a mix of engine timing/performance and multiple EVAP system codes, here's the best way to approach diagnosis:

Step 1: Address the Simplest EVAP Issues First
The P0456 and P0442 codes are the easiest and cheapest to address.

Check the Gas Cap: Ensure the gas cap is tightly sealed and inspect the rubber seal for any cracks or damage. Replace the gas cap if necessary.

Clear Codes: Clear the codes and drive the vehicle to see if the EVAP codes return. EVAP tests take several driving cycles to complete.

Step 2: Diagnose the Camshaft Timing (P002177)
This code is critical because it affects engine performance and timing.

Check Oil Level and Quality: Ensure the engine oil is full, clean, and the correct viscosity. Low oil pressure or dirty oil can prevent the Variable Valve Timing (VVT) actuators from working correctly.

Inspect Solenoids: The camshaft position is controlled by an oil control solenoid (actuator). These can fail electrically or become clogged with debris. Inspection and testing of the Bank 2 Intake Camshaft Actuator/Solenoid is necessary.

Step 3: Investigate the Catalyst Efficiency (P042000)
This code indicates your catalytic converter on Bank 1 is not cleaning the exhaust gases efficiently enough.

Check Upstream Issues: The P0420 is often a result of another problem, such as the P002177 code causing the engine to run rich or lean, which prematurely damages the catalyst. Fix the P002177 first.

Inspect O2 Sensor Data: A technician should use a scan tool to monitor the front and rear oxygen sensor readings on Bank 1. If the rear sensor mirrors the front sensor (instead of being steady), the catalyst is indeed failing.

A diagnostic smoke test for the EVAP system and an in-depth analysis of live engine data (especially O2 sensor and camshaft positions) is highly recommended for accurate repair.
