Roland17:This is my first time watching ice hockey. I don't understand the tactics, but the athleticism is incredible. No one is giving an inch at all, . I just dey fear for those referees ![]() |
The pace of the NHL game 7 is wild. Are the games always like this? It is ridiculous in a very good way WOW. Just WOW |
benji93:The six full games we found tapes for from Jordan’s Defensive Player of the Year campaign: Atlanta at Chicago: Nov. 20, 1987 Indiana at Chicago: Jan. 5, 1988 Denver at Chicago: Jan. 7, 1988 Detroit at Chicago: Jan. 16, 1988 Atlanta at Chicago: Feb. 15, 1988 Boston at Chicago: Mar. 18, 1988 PS: one of the reasons they published is to see if the publicity can get them access to more full game tape. The ones they got were from vhs tapings of nba Europe |
benji93:That is where I also stand, the nba or a private collector should have all those games and I for one will be interested in reading/watching a deep dive on thise games and not just MJs, also some of those ridiculous John Stockton assist numbers. That is where modern basketball trives, the other year people accused the Grizzlies of juicing JJJ stats and the writer of the yahoo sports article was one of those who did the review of every home game and confirmed that his stats were just as counted. |
A40:MJ fans can just be delusional, one of the guys involved in this has already published work on Van exel's 25 assists game, Shaq's 15 block game and nobody called it witch hunting but talk about MJ and it becomes about LeBron. A Latvian historian while looking through the record books noticed that a player got more steals than the opposition got TOs in one game, and also noticed again that the same player got the same amount of steals in another games as the opposition got TOs which implied that there was no deadball TOs which is ridiculous. This dude watched basketball when it was on tape delay in Europe in the 1980s, but that is who you are accusing of being a LeBron Stan. Just ridiculous, the fact is pre 2000s there was a lot of juicing of home stats, and pointing it out is not and will never be a witchhunt. PS : Also, the second guy involved in the research was one of the guys who helped confirm that JJJ DPOY numbers were not juiced when the grizzlies were accused of cooking his blocks stats |
benji93:The league didn't have its own record keepers in that era, so each home team recorded the boxscores for the game. Unlike now where the teams have theirs, plus the nbas guys and also all sports books have multiple people checking to make sure that boxscores are accurate. As for the 10 steals game, it's not a full game on youtube but a 4 minute highlight reel on nba.com. the title says 10 steals, but after watching it, you will only see 6 steals. This highlight reel is what prompted the Latvian nba historian to look into the whole 1988 Jordan steals and block stats. He could only find 6 home games and with the Yahoo sports writer as the other watcher, they found 12 steals while the boxscores gave MJ 28. PS: The Latvian historian has other stories he himself have published about stats juicing, from van excel 25 assist games (he saw at most 17, and in his opinion that is with stretching the definition of what an assist was). Also, the 15-block Shaq game, the tape, showed about 10 |
Roland17:Wait both teams won 3 games in a row. I will need to make out time for the game 7, it is bound to be tense |
Roland17:You guys that are watching NHL wetin dey happen. I thought the series was following the nba finals trend for a while there? |
steady986: . In those days the home team had their own score keeper. One of the game is on YouTube, they gave the man 10steals when he actually had just 6. People will find that 42 home games and go through every bit of it, then we go see how far. |
Anyone following the home cooking stats giveaway story of the 1980s nba? .16 free steals in 6 games, you just can't make this stuff up |
etidy: . People with revisionist history, something we just saw less than a month ago and someone is already saying the Wolves wouldn't have lost 3 in a row, when they did it in back to back series |
A40:If they can move that guy for a starting caliber piece even if it means adding picks to facilitate the trade it will be huge coup for the Mavericks. |
Every game has at least one DWhite block |
greypencils:Kyrie as a 1v1 player will always be great, but this discussion is why when I listen to some ex players it always seems at least to me that they put too much value into that 1v1 ability calling guys who can do it at an elite level real hoppers. For me the NBA is a 5vs5 game not a 1vs1 game. Yes if we had a 1v1 tournament I would take AI over Nash, but if it's a give each guy 6 other players to play nba 5on5 basketball I will take Nash any day of the week and on Sundays too |
steady986:Yes it is a low ball offer based on the circumstances. If it was to coach the Hornets or Cavaliers then that is understandable, but for the Lakers with all the external headaches that comes with it, add the fact that he will be leaving an ideal situation, then they should have offered him closer to what Monty got in Detroit. |
A40:Yes he is worse than Kleber, Kleber is supposed to guard big men and he does an okay job at it. Yes his offense i.e shooting is sporadic but he will always put in a shift on defence and knows when to stop shooting if his shot is not falling. THJ on the other hand is supposed to guard wings, and he his a worse sieve than Luka, plus the dude can go 0-10 from 3 and keep on shooting bricks. So its a choice between a good defender, who is sporadic on offense, but is self aware enough not to continue launching bricks and a very bad defender whose offense is better but when it's bad can kill you because he will not stop shooting. |
Team building matters a lot with regards to winning. THJ is the 3rd highest cap hit on the Mavericks with 17mil and he cannot get on the court through out the playoffs, on the other hand the Celtics have their 7 highest cap hits playing almost all of the minutes. The good news for the Mavericks is that their new GM seems to know what he his doing. |
chic2pimp:That's one of their cheat codes, when Jrue is cooking offensively he will still have like the 3rd of 4th best defender guarding him because you cannot move the best perimeter guys away from the Js, same thing happens on nights Derrick white is on offensively. In short if they win it all, Brad Steven's deserves kudos for actually building an incredible team and they can still keep this core I think for one more season |
greypencils:The death line up was, KD, Draymond , Steph, Klay and Iggy |
Whatever happens, the Mavericks have something with this group. If I were them, I would give PG13 the max and let Tim Hardaway jnr go |
A40:This is where ownership who are willing to win comes in. They are willing to pay the luxury tax to give them the best shot at winning it all. Brad Stevenn IMHO built a team that is perfect for his two best players, he gave them top end players that can bail them when they are experiencing their lows. Look at this game Jrue is currently out scoring both the Js with 17, but we all know that sometime in the 2nd half one of the Js will pick up and start making shots and all of a sudden the lead will just increase out of no where. |
donlittle25:Kleber is just scared too shoot for some reason. While the other two have to really attack the basket more aggressively |
kendrick9:You just pointed out something I noticed that almost nobody is talking about. The Celtics have 4 dudes earning 30+million and the 5th guy in Derrick white is a guy most GMs in the league are saying they would not trade straight up for the number 1 overall pick in this upcoming draft. They might not have depth beyond 8 guys but their top 5 is by and away the best 5 in the league right now and possibly since the 2017 warriors death line up. |
Kyrie has to be better. |
steady986:Are you guys saying generational talents as in what their career became or what they were known as before the NBA, because as far as I understand the tag generational talent is for guys who when there were 14, 15 it was a concensus that they would be one of the best players in the NBA. So the list is not that long, I'll say LeBron, Kareem and maybe Shaq |
A40:With due respect, that is one coach. If jordan was a generation talent, he would not have gone 3rd in the draft. The way I take it is how generational talent is defined. That is the guy you hear talk about him in middle school, up until high school then college if they bothered to go. At a time when sports media was still in its infancy, the whole nation knew about KAJ before he got into high school. |
steady986:Wait is it the versions that played with these teams or each and everyone of these players in their prime? |
A40:Yes, the Timberwolves beat their off-season expectations by a mile, which is why their fans yesterday were so upbeat and were still chanting the team's name after the loss. As for Edwards he has a lot to learn and improve especially his stamina/cardio, his attention to details on defence (he has a tendency to lose focus) and also as a playmaker. The big advantage for him is that he his going to the Olympics and if he his smart he should spend that whole time picking the brains of LeBron, Steph and KD. If he does this it can cut his learning curve by a lot |
A40:With due respect to Magic he did it because he had an all-time great alongside him. As for being disrespectful, it's an age thing, in society as a whole these kids in their early 20s and under don't just have the same automatic respect for their elders why do we think it would be different on the basketball court. personally, I have no problem with it. If you want the smoke that's on you to walk the walk. |
Roland17:Not only this series, against Denver the ball found its way to Gobert's hands too much for my liking. |
A40:The thing is the Mavs will take that match up all day long. That match up will not wear Luka down, yes Gobert might score but he won't tire him out |
A40:Playoff games are so funny. Exum of all people with 5pts to cut the lead down to 3 |
