I’m sorry, but casting a Black actor as Lestat completely threw me off. It’s a major deviation from the books. For people like us who actually read them, it feels like a completely different story. Anne Rice clearly described Lestat’s origins, and they’re nothing like what’s shown in the series. So, I don’t think they’re overflogging anything, they’re just telling a different story that’s only loosely connected to Anne Rice’s universe.
