Julius will be wishing he was still at Shatkar now. he woulda gotten his first UEFA medal.

what is gonna differentiate the EUROPA CUP fro the defunct UEFA cup?

The Uefa Cup is to be renamed the Uefa Europa League from next season, with the competition set to be extended.

The new-look league will have 48 clubs in 12 groups of four, with teams playing each other home and away as opposed to just once as it stands now.

The top two in each group then join the eight third-placed Champions League clubs in a 32-club knock-out stage.

The competition will also have its TV rights sold centrally, in the same way as the Champions League.

This switch should increase income to clubs.

"I am convinced the new format will give the Uefa Europa League a successful new impetus," said Uefa president Michel Platini.

"These changes will improve this historic competition, which is very important for Uefa and for European football as it gives more fans, players and clubs the thrill of European club football."

A statement on the Uefa website adds: "The new name and logo will help underline the tournament's special character and unique sporting appeal.

"Uefa's ambition in making these changes is to rejuvenate the competition in the light of the new European football landscape, which has shifted significantly with the continued success of the Champions League, so that the Uefa Europa League can establish itself as a major competition."

Apart from long-term injury victims Márquez, Jorquera and Milito, Thierry Henry and Andrés Iniesta were also missing from the session as they are continuing with their individual recuperation programmes. Both players hope to be ready in time to face Manchester United.

I hope txiki does'nt buy another Abidal this summer
I dont think Yaya will play in the midfield
Caceres performance against Mallorca was shit!
I dont trust him & Slyvinho.

If Víctor Valdés plays no further part in this season’s League programme, he will win the Zamora Trophy for the second time. The Barça keeper sat out Sunday’s game in Mallorca.

Valdés conceded 31 goals in his 35 games (La liga), equating to an average of 0.89 goals a game. Second placed Andrés Palop (Sevilla) is on 1.03. Even if Palop kept clean sheets in his two remaining matches, his average would become 0.97, so he would not be able to catch up with Valdés.

Not many goalkeepers have had the honour of winning this award more than once. Some all-time greats like Zubizarreta (1986/87), Urruticoechea (1983/84), Artola (1977/78), Reina (1972/73) and Pesudo (1965/66) only collected the Zamora once. Ramallets has the finest record, for he had the best goalkeeping record in the top flight no fewer than five times, although he only won the Zamora twice, as it was only officially created in 1958/59, while Sadurní won it three times.
V.V cool

Yes, Never never to Ashley Cole, I am thinking of Taiye Taiwo, he has the power to keep that side and maybe we can also go for David Silva, that guy can play LB too, and also LM.
TT can fit in, he's far better than Calamity abidal
DS cant play LB!
i think Andriano (Sevilla) or Zhirkov will be okay for the LB position

Werder Bremen are aiming to become the first German side in eight years to claim a European title (since Bayern Munich lifted the Champions League in 2001).
Shakhtar Donetsk have never before gone past the last 16 of the tournament and today’s game will be their first major European final.

SportsUefa Cup Final Preview: Shakhtar Donetsk – Werder Bremen by khanye(op): 11:54am On May 20, 2009
Shakhtar Donetsk are in uncharted territory; they have never before gone past the last 16 of the tournament and Wednesday’s game will be their first major European final.

However, having already beaten the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, CSKA Moscow, Marseille and Dynamo Kiev, Lucescu’s side will head to the final with plenty of confidence.

Donetsk will also be boosted by the fact that they are currently on an excellent run of form.

Although they have missed out on the domestic league title, they have won their last six league games and will hope to make amends by ending the season with the UEFA Cup.

Despite their inexperience at this stage of the competition the eastern Europeans certainly possess plenty of attacking flair and more than enough quality in their squad to worry the Germans.

Shakhtar are a team filled with samba style in the shape of Brazilians Ilsinho, Fernandinho, Luiz Adriano, Jadson and Willian; and with a solid defence behind them they will prove a stern test for the boys from the Bundesliga.

Werder Bremen, meanwhile, will be confident of becoming the first German side in eight years to claim a European title (since Bayern Munich lifted the Champions League in 2001).

Despite enduring a disappointing season in the Bundesliga where they currently lie tenth, the Green-Whites have the possibility of ending the campaign with a cup double.

Thomas Schaaf’s men will play Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB Cup final on May 30 and will hope to travel to Berlin having already bagged the UEFA Cup.

Certainly having already despatched the likes of AC Milan, St Etienne, Udinese and compatriots SV Hamburg to reach the final, Bremen will be confident they can take the final step required to bring them their first European title since winning the Cup Winners Cup in 1992.

However, Schaaf does have problems going in to the game with a number of key players missing.

Bremen’s inspiration and top scorer in the competition, Diego, is banned, as is striker Hugo Almeida.

Injury also rules out Per Mertesacker yet Werder do have strength in depth and will look to Claudio Pizarro, Markus Rosenberg and bright young thing Mesut Ozil for inspiration.

Douglas Maicon is now one of the best right-back in the world, bombing up the flank like an unstoppable machine.

Dani Alves is rated as the best right back in the world. Known for his stamina,
agressiveness, and attacking ability he is one of the top performers for Barcelona this season.
