When people spoke in tongues in ancient times, they spoke one language and people from different cultural backgrounds, languages, and heritage, understood them.

Suppose Paul was in a Hebrew land (with non-Hebrew visitors from around) and spoke Hebrew, of the gift of the spirit, the Greeks, people of Corinth, people of Ephesus, Igbos, Ijaws, Yorubas, etc., understood him!
