“Yesterday I went to an ATM here in Eket to withdraw money and I noticed that finger print scanners have been installed in all the machines. I know that’s part of the reason why CBN introduced the BVN for ease of transactions. So instead of walking around with your card, you go with your “fingers”. It’s not just ‘cashless’, it’s ‘cardless’ too ….lol.
Maybe before the end of the year you may not be able to give that Card to your friend going to the bank to help you withdraw. The days of one person, five ATM cards will soon be a thing of the past. The days of getting scared whenever you remember you are going to the ATM will also be a past soon. It’s between you and your fingerprint, nothing more.
Unfortunately, I am yet to get my BVN, despite tens of mails I have received from wannabe scammers telling me to do my BVN online. They forget that the ‘B’ in BVN stands for ‘Biometrics’ and that it can only be done when you physically present yourself to the bank.

With the increasing incidents of compromise on conventional security systems (password and PIN), there is a high demand for greater security for access to sensitive or personal information in the Banking System. In recent times, biometric technologies have been used to analyze human characteristics as an enhanced form of authentication for real-time security processes.

Biometrics refers to identifying an individual based on physiological or behavioral attributes – fingerprint, signature etc.

The Central Bank of Nigeria through the Banker’ Committee and in collaboration with all banks in Nigeria on February 14, 2014 launched a centralized biometric identification system for the banking industry tagged Bank Verification Number (BVN).

THE BENEFITS
BVN gives a unique identity that can be verified across the Nigerian Banking Industry (not peculiar to one Bank)
Customers Bank Accounts are protected from unauthorized access
It will address issues of identity theft, thus reduce exposure to fraud
The BVN will enhance the Banking Industry chances of being able to fish out blacklisted customers
Reduce queue in Banking Halls
Standardized efficiency of Banking operations
The Customers unique BVN is accepted as a means of identification across ALL Nigerian Banks

OBJECTIVES
The purpose of the project is to use biometric information as a means of first identifying and verifying all individuals that have account(s) in any Nigerian bank and consequently, as a means of authenticating customer’s identity at point of transactions.
To provide a uniform industrially accepted unique identity for Bank Customers
To authenticate transactions without the use of cards using only biometric features and PIN
Identification of blacklisted customers

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BVN
A unique ID number shall be issued to every Bank customer at enrolment and linked to every account that the customer has in ALL Nigerian Banks.
Individuals shall be required to submit an acceptable means of identification as prescribed for enrolment.
Customers of banks shall be required to enroll within a fixed period after which they shall no longer be able to operate their Bank accounts
Capturing of all ten (10) fingers and facial image will be adopted
For authentication purposes, individuals performing banking transactions (e.g applying for loans) shall be required to identify themselves using their biometric features which will be matched against information in the central database.
Update of customer information shall be done at their Bank Branches physically.
Banks shall be prompted during account opening and credit check if a customer has been blacklisted by ANY Nigerian Bank.
The BVN and unique features of an individual shall be used in conjunction with a PIN on a point of transaction.

HOW TO ENROLL
Walk into any branch of your Bank
Fill and submit the BVN Enrolment form.
Present yourself for data capturing (such as Fingerprint, facial Image etc)
An acknowledgment slip with the transaction ID is issued to you
Within 24hours the system confirms your application, your BVN is generated, and you receive an SMS for pickup.

I always had really bad cramps – I could not move or my bowels would just not want to behave because the cramps were so bad. It is extremely difficult to deal with because you don’t know whether your period is going to last a week or three.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Tuesday restated its resolve to prosecute anyone found transacting business in the country with any foreign currency as a medium of payment.
The banking sector regulator stated that its attention had been drawn to the increasing use of
foreign currencies in the domestic economy as a medium of payment for goods and services by
individuals and corporate citizens.

The central bank, in a statement titled: “The use of foreign currency as a medium of exchange in
Nigeria,” signed by its Director, Corporate Communications, Ibrahim Mu’azu, said it had
observed that some institutions price their goods and services in foreign currencies and demand
payments in foreign currencies rather than the domestic currency (the naira), which is the legal
tender in Nigeria.

To this end, it drew the attention of member of the public to the provisions of the CBN Act of 2007,
which states inter-alia that “the currency notes issued by the Bank shall be legal tender in Nigeria…for the payment of any amount”.

Furthermore, the Act stipulates that any person(s) who contravenes this provision is guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a prescribed fine or six months imprisonment. It added: “This prohibition, however, is without prejudice to foreigners, visitors and tourists who are encouraged to continue to use their cards for payments or exchange their foreign currency for
local currency at any of the authorised dealers’ outpost.
“The general public is hereby advised to report any contravention of the provision of this Act to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
(EFCC) and the CBN for appropriate action.”
The CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele had last month declared that the currency for transacting
business in the country remains the naira and had warned that it is illegal to carry out transactions
using the US dollar. He had said the CBN would in due course go after those who violate the policy.
He had said: “We will be looking at areas where people are making demands for foreign currency;
people who are landlords who are asking for rent in dollars; schools that are asking for school fees
in dollars or transacting business in dollars.”
He stressed that it is illegal in Nigeria to transact business in foreign currency and advised those
involved in the practice to desist from doing so, because the CBN would soon come after them.

Yesterday at about 11pm, a 200level student of FUTO (name hidden) was summoned by the commander of Man O War FUTO command and it was gathered that the young man was alone in his room which was inside the hostel where the victim stays. When she came he overpowered her despite her struggle and even turned the music so high so that no one would here her screaming. After much struggle the girl managed to break open window panes so that her scream could be heard. Rescuers came around and the culprit was apprehended for imminent prosecution.

Further more, the Vice Chancellor of the school Professor Chigozie Cyril Asiabaka has suspended Man O War activities in FUTO till matters are adequately resolved.
