Ife Olaleye "Pollution is nothing but the resources we are not harvesting. We allow them to disperse because we've been ignorant of their value." - Buckmister Fuller. According to Eunomia, a environmental Consultancy outfit, Germany has the best recycling rate in the world. Austria comes in second, followed by South Korea and Wales. All four countries manage to recycle between 52% and 56% of their municipal waste. Switzerland, in fifth place, recycles almost half of its municipal waste. Wales another country hopes to achieve zero waste by 2050. Despite some of the setbacks faced by the recycling industry caused by the Chinese governments new policy which bans 24 recyclable products from being exported to China, the recycling industry is still a 410 billion USD industry. Nigeria, the largest economy in Africa generates massive amounts of waste annually. According to the Waste Management Society Of Nigeria(WAMASON) a total of sixty five million metric tonnes of waste is generated annually. However owing to a non existent policy footprint Nigerian entrepreneurs, government and people are loosing billions of NGN. The current method of burning waste isn't only crude and a loss of a major source of revenue but more importantly harmful to the environment. Assessing the economic impact of Waste management/recycling in Germany and USA. The nation of Germany has evolved into a large and powerful economic sector. There are more than 270,000 people working in some 11,000 companies with an annual turnover of around 70 billion euros. In the USA, the United States Environmental Protection Agency affirms that the recycling industry accounts for 757,000 American jobs, $36.6 billion in wages; and $6.7 billion in tax revenues. Going forward Nigeria should evolve a template built on the German model by first creating a waste management act enforceable by local governments the waste management act must outline government's policy objectives and performance targets. Providing financial incentives for recyclers or collectors of waste, financial grants to research centers with the focus on translating waste into products capable of generating revenue. As Nigeria continues to witness meteoric rise in her population and waste generation. The time is now for the nation to seize the immense environmental and economic benefits that the recycling industry has to offer. In the words of Clement of Alexandria "We are not to throw away those things which can benefit our neighbor. Goods are called good because they can be used for good: they are instruments for good, in the hands of those who use them properly." https://kinesthouse.com/blog/recycling-is-nigeria-missing-out-on-a-multi-billion-naira-industry Lalasticlala |

I am a strong advocate of breaking boundaries and daring status quo; poking today to create a better tomorrow. This has fueled human advancement through out history. It makes life worth living! Responsibility as a word splits into two words; response and ability to give it the best of application it deserves - strengthening talent. Ability; the quality or state of being able has hampered most people from scaling a lot of heights. It has turned supposed doers and players into bystanders and spectators in a world of cut-throat competition. Many things in life affect ones ability. From gene of conception to environment of birth and rear. Some are born with physical disabilities, others are disabled by their environment and sadly many others disable themselves! This past week I came in contact with the story of Agabi Oshirenonya; the Nigerian born Neuroscientist and Engineer who founded Koniku in 2015 after his PhD in Imperial College, London. Koniku; a tech company using synthetic neurobiology and technology to produce a machine (computer) whose functions mimics the biological brain. According to Quartz Africa "Its biggest invention so far has been Koniku Kore, a modem-sized device that uses mice neurons to sniff out explosives and detect diseased cells". Agabi is using his knowledge of neurobiology and technology (#ability) to address global challenges like terrorism and cancer (#response) I join voice with other Africans and the rest of the world, in Warri parlance I'm saying; "Senior Bros, u try!" Dear Youths of my generation, what are you doing with your talent? Everyone including you have something you can do to make our world better. If you don't know for now, please find it! When you have found it, using it to impact our world strengthens it the more. Remember the same time and effort it takes to think and do evil is what it takes to think and do good! Dear Oga and Madam, whatever leadership office you are occupying remember to use your ability to respond to the need of the people, choose impact over instant gratification! Reflection: As the flood recedes in some parts of Nigeria and is descending down the course of the river Niger and pluvial flooding occurrences as it rains in some areas in the hinterland. Let's keep remembering our affected brothers and sisters. We can reach out to them with our time and resources by partnering with relevant NGO's and Government Agencies. That food and used clothes of yours is useful! As a way of prevention, let's avoid clogging our water ways and contribute our quota in the fight against climate change and global warming. To be continued.... https://kinesthouse.com/blog/responsibility-strengthens-talent Lalasticlala |
My mentor will always have this to say whenever we are together. "always be responsible no matter where you find yourself. It is not about money, anyone who is responsible will always matter in the society, it is a matter of when!". I found the reality in that statement May 28 this year. News broke about Mamoudou Gassama, the Malian immigrant who rescued a dangling child in France. This earned him a state recognition as HE Emmanuel Macron granted him permanent residence in France amongst other things. A lot of people have been praying for this residency, some even go into a lot of things the mouth cannot mention just to get it. He got he's on the plata of "having the mind to help", an attitude that did not begin that day. He may not be the only one who saw the child, some have carefully thought of the risk involved and they just decided to pass, others may have ask the baby "who send u" etc. I have observed that "I don't care attitude" is one of our greatest challenge as humans. Sometimes we call it "minding our own business" especially in Africa where our Government are perceived to care less, everyone goes about their normal duty without caring who is in trouble. If I'm not the one and none of my family members or anyone I know is involved then its OK! Even with our health, some of us give the same 'I don't care" attitude to our body when we take hard drugs harmful substances, or get involved in risky behaviours. In the society where many see corruption as a norm, some of us give bribes and even encourage it. For people who share my faith, we "temporarily" remove our hands that was nailed on the cross with Jesus and use it to sin, then return it back to the cross. what a shame! Friends, wherever you find yourself either in school, business, office, government etc. Do not be the channel where evil will pass through, frown at corruption and wrong doings, where you have the power STOP IT! Give a helping hand where necessary, when you don't have the resources, give your advice and kind words and above all be responsible for your health!. #Reflection: My deep thought and prayers are with our brothers and sisters in "river bank" states in Nigeria (especially Niger state), Sudan, North and South Carolina - USA and Japan that are victims of the flood, hurricane Florence and earthquakes respectively. Please let us remember them in our prayers at this point in time! We may not owe our neighbours money but we owe them "duty of care" as ones who share common humanity. For certainty, where academic performance, qualification or talent cannot take you, #responsibility can take you there. According to John C Maxwell "Responsibility strengthens talent!" Be responsible! To be continued..... Join us today @KinesthouseAfricaProject https://www.facebook.com/group Where_Passion_aligns_with_professionalism |
My mum will always say to my friends and I while growing up "a child who smokes is a dead child and a dead child is gone for life". The seriousness with which these lines of metaphor were released made me to view smoking literally as poison that can cause instant death as a child. The reality in this statement got me this past week when I saw an astute politician, one that had occupied one of the best seats of power in the land. His appearance in the comity of folks in his supposed cadre left him spotted with such questionable difference. Haggard looking and lacking composure. This aside the fact that his impact as a supposed "statesman" has remained infinitesimal since he left office. The old tale of people becoming irrelevant once they left office may be normal, nevertheless sources close to him said that he smokes marijuanua and abuse other hard drugs like no man's business. With all his previous achievements and the prospects he may have in the sight of family, friends, by standers and admirers in the society. As a person, something is wrong with him! Yes, he may have all the money but the real essence of life is embedded in relevance and good legacy. It supersedes wealth! The rate at which Nigerian youths abuse drugs today is dangerously phenomenal. In some places its embedded in their culture to smoke weeds, others see it as enjoyment, relaxation and means of calming pressure, be it alcohol, marijuana (igbo), shisha, cigeratte, SK, tramadol, codein, refnol, monkey tail and what have you. The very minute you engage, you have just paid transport to embark on "highway to the grave". You may not die physically, but the real essence of life you may not be able to grasp without a sober mind no matter your wealth or connection. You are dead! Show me 10 mad people (psychopaths) and I will show you 8 that abused drugs. What ever life throws at you face it with clear eye. Approach life soberly and conquer your fear by thinking for the best solution to give to any predicament. Drug abuse is a cowardly way of postponing responsibility and a dangerous means of relaxation! Face life with all you were endowed with before being born. Meet good people and above all your creator for counsel in difficult times so that your life will impact lives.. _Michael Ozioma Invite people to Join us today @ Kinesthouse_AfricaProject_ https://www./788290514708310/permalink/788316304705731/
