National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC),
Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has said the party is suffering from
“strains of funding,” but it does not intend to bother President
Muhammadu Buhari as raising funds for the party is not part of
his national assignment.
Oyegun, who stated this at an interactive session with newsmen
at the APC headquarters in Abuja, said the party was working to
raise funds within itself.
“The party is suffering from the strains of funding.
“We are working to raise resources within the membership. We
have not asked for rescue from the president because it is not
part of his national assignment,” he said.
Oyegun also commented on the general state of the nation,
lamenting that the present government inherited a prostrate
economy.
“Buhari inherited a collapsed economy. What we are doing is to
clear the debris. There will be plenty of good news in the next few
months. We have to put up with the present deprivation. But, we
will smile tomorrow,” he said.
Speaking on the anti-corruption campaign of the Buhari
administration, the APC national chairman said government was
not selective in its fight, but, added that the probe of the
immediate past PDP administration was necessary because the
erstwhile ruling party held Nigeria down for 16 years.
“We are investigating yesterday. Let tomorrow investigate us,” he
added.
Also, Oyegun pleaded with Nigerians to exercise little patience
with the party, assuring that the current hardship experienced by
Nigerians will soon be over in few months.
The APC boss admitted that the party was equally feeling the
pains and agonies many Nigerians are currently passing through,
even as he attributed the hardship to the misrule of the
opposition party in the last 16 years.
“Let me start by saying that our party, the APC is very much
aware of the hardship Nigerians are going through. It is as a
result of the 16 years misrule the PDP government has plunged
this country.
“Apart from the party, I must also say that one of the main
concerns of Mr President is that he is fully conscious and aware
of the tough times people are going through. I want to give you
the assurance to pass to the people that everything is done to
stabilise the economy and ameliorate the sufferings and
deprivations that people are going through.”
“I want to think that many Nigerians understand why things are
the way they are today. The Buhari administration inherited a
prostrate economy. Nobody envisaged that there would be near
total collapse of the price of crude oil.
“When you juxtapose that with our consumption habits where we
intend to import virtually everything from toothpicks to the
choicest Champagne products, all of these put pressure on the
foreign exchange stock of the nation which as a result has given
rise to lots of the issues that Mr President is dealing with today…” source: sunnewsonline.com/new/apc-is-broke-oyegun/ |
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Monday opened
its case with two witnesses against the National Publicity Secretary of
the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olisa Metuh, in the charges of
money laundering involving the sum of N400m which he allegedly
collected from the Office of the National Security Adviser in November
2014.
The trial commenced before a Federal High Court in Abuja after the
trial judge, Justice Okon Abang, overruled objection by Metuh’s lead
counsel, Mr. Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN) to adjourn the trial.
Ikpeazu also informed the judge on Monday that since Metuh had been
unable to meet the bail conditions granted him on January 16, the
defence had filed an application for variation of the terms.
He urged the court to adjourn the proceedings as the inability of his
client to meet the bail conditions had adverse effect on his preparation
for the defence.
The prosecution led by Mr. Sylvanus Tahir, opposed the application for
adjournment and his objection was upheld by the judge.
Tahir then proceeded to open the prosecution’s case on Monday with
the testimony of an employee of Asset and Resource Management
Company Limited, Nneka Ararume, who narrated how he collected a
total sum of $2m cash from Metuh at his house in Prince and Princess
Estate, Abuja.
Ararume who described her position with the company as Wealth
Manager, said the instruction given to her by Metuh was that the
money should be invested.
She explained further that she went ahead to change the money to its
naira equivalent through two bureau de change operators she engaged.
She said, “He gave me the sum of $2m in $100 bills. It was taken to
bureau de change operators who would then transfer the money to
ARM. From there (Metuh’s house) I proceeded to Mr. Sie Iyenome’s
office at Wuse 2 where I gave him the sum of $1m.
“I also invited Mr. Kabir Mohammed and I also gave him the sum of
$1m to transfer the naira equivalent in favour of Destra Investment
Limited. Later on the same day, December 2, 2014, Mr. Kabir and Mr.
Sie Iyenome confirmed the receipt.”
The prosecution also called Iyenome as its second prosecution
witness, who also narrated how he changed the $1m to its naira
equivalent and paid it to ARM.
Both witnesses were cross-examined by the defence counsel.
Trial has been adjourned till tomorrow for the prosecution to call more
witnesses.
The prosecuting counsel said he had 16 more witnesses.

The Kogi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Lokoja has fixed Monday for ruling on two separate motions seeking to stop the inauguration of Alhaji Yahaya Bello as governor on January 27. The two motions seeking an order of the tribunal to stop the inauguration were filed by counsel to Governor Idris Wada and PDP, Chief Chris Uche (SAN) and that of Labour Party, Reuben Egwuaba. The Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Halima Mohammed, fixed the date after listening to submissions and adoption of written addresses of the counsel to the two parties Friday. Uche said his motion on notice dated January 12 and filed on January 13 was supported by a 44-paragraph affidavit and 10 grounds In his own motion on notice, Egwuaba had averred that Bello was not qualified to participate in the supplementary election when he did. He said apart from his failure to participate in all the electoral processes preparatory to the governorship election, Bello breached the Electoral Act (2010) as amended, as he contested the supplementary election without a valid running mate. “Consequent upon nomination of Alhaji Yahaya Bello as replacement for Abubakar Audu, Hon. James Faleke, who was Audu’s running mate, withdrew and dissociated himself from participating in supplementary election as Bello’s running mate,” he argued. Joseph Daudu (SAN), counsel to the governor-elect, opposed the motion in his submission, strengthened by a 31-paragraph counter affidavit. He urged the tribunal to dismiss the motion on the ground that the tribunal was not constitutionally empowered to stop the swearing- in of a governor-elect. Counsel to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Dr Alex Izinyon (SAN) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), Charles Edosomwan (SAN) also opposed the motion in their submissions. sourcehttp://thenationonlineng.net/tribunal-rules-on-motions-against-bellos-inauguration-monday/ |

Former Anambra State Governor and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Chimwoke Mbadinuju has called for support for the anti-graft campaigns of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration. He told journalists in Keffi on Friday that “what the president is doing is cleaning the mess of previous administrations. It is clear that the president is not the cause of our political and economic problems but rather finding solutions of past and present problems we face. “Former administrations brought the “cankerworm” and “caterpillar” of corruption, injustice, poor economy, cheating and looting. President Buhari has extended the loot recovery to former Yar’adua-Obasanjo era and this is extensive enough to curb graft and recover Nigeria’s stolen commonwealth. “Corruption will die faster in Nigeria if we do away with avarice, inordinate ambition, political ostentation, greed, cheating and the likes.” source http://dailypost.ng/2016/01/22/buhari-cleaning-the-mess-of-jonathan-yaradua-obasanjo-mbadinuju/ lalasticlala ishilove obynoscopy |
