In many places in Igboland, the python is regarded as a ‘sacred being’ which no one is expected to kill, harm or maltreat. It is an age-long observance because to most Igbo communities, Eke or python is seen as the symbol of the sea or river goddess. It protects and provides for the people, both in terms of wealth, fertility and long life. To the people, eke is a harmless ‘being’ and it is actually harmless to those who do not kill it. To them, eke symbolises peace, prosperity and abundance, especially in the waters.

At Umuohi, Okija, in Ihiala local government area of Anambra state, a man called Ukata Nnanna in an interview gave a clearer picture of why the eke has come to be regarded as being so sacred and in some places is worshipped as a goddess.

"The story of eke we have here is sacred and different. But before we go on, it is good to point out that the mystery surrounding eke is greater than most of us can actually understand. Our own case is quite peculiar. In the olden days, our people used to provide shelter for strangers. This was how the issue of eke became a symbol of respect and regards here in our village", Nnanna said, grinning and shaking his head repeatedly.

"There was one certain aged widow who was said to have been driven away by her husband people. She set out on a journey, a journey she did not know where it would take her. When she got to Umuohi, Okija, she stopped and begged our people to provide a place for her to rest her feet. She was by then too tired to continue on her way.

15-year-old South African girl allegedly commits suicide after being bullied at school

A 15-year-old South African schoolgirl has reportedly committed suicide after she was assaulted by another pupil.

Lufuno Mavhungu Tshirenzheni from the Thulamela Municipality, Limpopo, allegedly overdosed on pills on Monday, April 12, Limpopo provincial police said.

In the video which went viral on social media on Tuesday, the grade 10 pupil from Mbilwi Secondary School in the Vhembe East education district is seen being confronted by two other girls.

One of them signals the other to move while she gets closer to her to slap her countless times. The victim grabs the pupil who is assaulting her in an attempt to block the blows.

The governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State came into power by the decision of the supreme court of Nigeria. Since assumption of power he has been trying to reshape the road infrastructure in the Imo State.

No doubt road infrastructure is the one of major infrastructural developments that triggers economic development in any state. This might has underscored why the governor of Imo is hell bent to construct quality roads to alleviate the problem of Imo people.

According to the Imo State news media the governor has scheduled yesterday being Tuesday 13th day of April, 2021 to Commission the road known as Chukwuma nwoha road. The road is dual carriage road. In the pictures shared the old nature of the road was revealed. But the road is well tarred and structured.


The governor Hope Uzodimma did invite his Excellency gov Kayode Fayemi who is the governor of Ekiti state to come and Commission the road with him.

This is coming after attacks on the correctional centre and police station as well as the killings of innocent people by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Nigerian Youths under the auspices of “Youths Earnestly Demand For Goodluck Jonathan 2023″ (YED 4 GEJ 2023) has asked immediate president of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to contest for the position of the President of Nigeria in the 2023 presidential election.

YED 4 GEJ 2023 gave the endorsement in a statement signed by its National Chairman, Prince Teddy Omiloli on Monday.

The group begged Jonathan to come back in 2023 to continue with the ‘trailblazing milestones’ he initiated in his first tenure as President of Nigeria.
