Unlimitk:If you are truly an Atheist then what concern you with which religion is better? Atheist should be neutral What are the Igbo Christians doing to bring progress to the Igbo other than being hateful, backward and constituting nuisance wherever they are? Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, etc are Muslim countries and they are still miles ahead of Nigeria in every thing. Islam is the second Religion after Christian in USA and it never stop the development of USA. If Yoruba muslims are dragging the Yoruba backwards then what are Igbo Christians doing to move the Igbo forward other than smuggling drugs in Asia and constituting nuisance where ever they are? You are just too stupid to be a Yoruba You are total disgrace |
A Nigerian journalist, Shola Lawal, has been announced as a 2019 IWMF Elizabeth Neuffer Fellow by the International Women’s Media Foundation – IWMF. Lawal was selected from more than 100 applicants from 43 countries. In a statement released on the IWMF’s website, “Lawal will begin her fellowship this fall as a research associate in residence with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)’s Center for International Studies in addition to completing journalism stays at The Boston Globe and The New York Times. “Lawal’s career-changing experience will also highlight reporting on West Africa during a time where recent accreditations in Nigeria are restricting press freedom.” According to Linda Henry, the Managing Director of The Boston Globe, “Our Editorial Board deeply values this fellowship, and the legacy of social justice reporting Elizabeth Neuffer established at our organization. “We are living in challenging times where freedom of the press is as important as ever. We look forward to the investigative lens Shola will apply as she contributes to upcoming editorials.” In another statement by the Executive Director of the IWMF, Elisa Lees Muñoz, “Elizabeth Neuffer paved the way for countless women who serve humanity through the stories they cover. “Shola’s drive to bear witness to these stories, coupled with her global experience in reporting, is the perfect match for this fellowship.” Meanwhile, the fellowship recipient who disclosed that it is certainly her biggest career achievement so far stated that her selection sends a powerful message of diversity to every aspiring female journalist on the African continent. “I am honored to be selected as the 2019 IWMF Elizabeth Neuffer Fellow and shoulder Elizabeth’s legacy for the many female journalists who will follow me – it is certainly my biggest career achievement thus far. “By selecting me, the IWMF is sending a powerful message of diversity to every aspiring female journalist on the African continent: Keep striving! Your work matters, it is noticed, and it will be rewarded.” A graduate of the University of Lagos, Lawal started her career in journalism as a freelance correspondent, with bias for specific issues of humanity and injustice. She has reported from the heart of Nigeria’s Boko Haram conflict and was a Nigeria’s representative at the 2018 Foreign Correspondents Program in Finland. A recipient of the 2018 Tiger Eye Journalism Grant to uncover war crimes in Sierra Leone, Lawal’s documentary film, ‘Where Gods Live,’ which follows marginalised indigenous religious worshippers in Nigeria, will be released later this year. Lawal’s runner-up is a Turkey-based independent investigative journalist, Burcu Karakaş, whose works on human rights, migration, free speech and gender issues, have attracted wide acclaim, including the European Union Investigative Journalist Prize for her reporting on the suspicious deaths of women in Southeastern Turkey. Now in its fifteenth year, the fellowship provides journalists with training and experience reporting on human rights and social justice issues. https://thetransverse.com/2019/06/14/nigerian-journalist-shola-lawal-announced-as-2019-elizabeth-neuffer-fellow-by-the-iwmf/ Cc Lalasticlala

- A heavy downpour on Wednesday night, June 12 in Aba, Abia state, left many homes, shops and markets submerged under water and also destroyed goods estimated at over N15m - The unfortunate development also rendered scores of residents of the area homeless - Okechukwu Egechi, a landlord in the area, claimed that he lost all his property to the flood, and also nearly lost his 13-year-old daughter to the flood - Oriaku Chisom, a senior pastor at a church situated in the area, urged political leaders to urgently intervene in order to save residents from the disaster. A heavy downpour on Wednesday night, June 12 in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia, has left many homes, shops and markets submerged by flood. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that goods estimated at over N15 million were also destroyed by the flood. Legit.ng gathers that at Ahia Ohuru (New Market), over 25 shops on Lines 10, 16, 20, 43, 44 and 47 were all submerged. Obinna Ogugua, a trader in the market, was said to have lost 32 bales of clothes, worth about N2.9 million. More than six hours of rain also flooded the Ahuronye, Nwaogu and Mathew streets on Obuda/Eziukwu and Ohanku roads in the Ndiegoro area of the city, leaving many houses flooded. The unfortunate development also rendered scores of residents of the area homeless. A resident, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, disclosed that he lost all his household items to the flood. He said that it took the intervention of neighbours to save some children, especially those whose parents were away during the downpour, from being swept away by flood. Okechukwu Egechi, a landlord in the area, said that Wednesday’s experience was not new to them. Egechi, however, said that the extent of flood and resultant damage of property was significantly higher than similar incidents in the recent past. He said that he was away when the rain started, but regretted that it was difficult for him to access his house when he returned at end of the rain due to the heavy flood. He said: “We have been complaining about the poor drainage in this area for many years, but nobody listened to us. “It is so bad that we have people representing us at the state and federal levels but they do not know about the perennial flooding facing us.” Egechi, who claimed that he lost all his property to the flood, also said that he nearly lost his 13-year-old daughter to the flood. “As I was told, she was the last to leave the house and suddenly fell into the flood but was rescued by neighbours,” he said. Oriaku Chisom, a senior pastor at the Garden of Life Ministries, situated at No 6 Ahuronye Street, said that flooding had become a perennial problem in the area. Chisom said: “The situation is not new. It has become an annual incident and usually takes residents unawares. “What is happening is simply a sheer sign of neglect by our political leaders. People will suffer and buy household equipment only to lose them to flood every year.” He said that although he was sent parking from his residence in the area by flood some years ago, his church was still situated there. He regretted that the federal government’s contract through the Ecological Fund Office for the reconstruction of the drains to properly address the flood menace was allegedly abandoned. “We are calling on our leaders, from councilors, council chairmen, state and federal lawmakers and the governor to urgently intervene in order to save the residents from the disaster,” Chisom said. https://www.legit.ng/1243363-flood-destroys-n15m-worth-goods-aba-renders-homeless.html |
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Imo State Command, has arrested one Paul Ihuaku for allegedly raping his mother. PUNCH Metro gathered that 45-year-old Ihuaku hails from Umueke Ezagbogu in the Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State. Briefing journalists on Thursday, the state Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr Raji Ibrahim, said the suspect was arrested by the operatives of the corps following a tip-off. It was gathered that after the incident, the mother reported the suspect to the youth in the area, who apprehended him and alerted men of the corps. “The men of the command later proceeded to the residence of the suspect and arrested him,” he added. Fielding questions from journalists, the suspect confessed to the crime, adding that he was under the influence of alcohol. “After drinking on that fateful evening, there was a heavy downpour and I could not resist the urge for sex; so, I had to use a local pistol to threaten my mother to submission and I later raped her,” Ihuaku stated. Asked if he was married, the suspect said he did not have the means yet, as he was not doing anything tangible. “I was not bewitched. I was under the influence of alcohol,” he added. It was also gathered that the incident took place in the village house the suspect is living in with his mother. The mother (name withheld) confessed that the incident was the second time. She said, “I was in the kitchen and saw him (Ihuaku) with a pistol. He used it to threaten me. He told me that he would kill me. I could not do anything other than to beg him to drop the gun. “It was in the process that he threw me on the ground and it (rape) happened. “I had to call on the youth the next morning, as the incident happened when it was already dark and damp. The youth later went to the NSCDC headquarters in Itu to report him, hence his arrest.” https://punchng.com/man-rapes-mother-in-imo-blames-alcohol/amp/ . |

) that they will make the country ungovernable! I didn't see you penning epistles on how they have a 'sense of entitlement' and all that cra'p! Why you've taken notice this time....why it rubs you up the wrong way is because this demand on inclusiveness is now coming from some Igbos!
