School who?

"Olu Ginuwa was the first Olu of Warri. He was the eldest son of Oba Olua, the 14th Oba of Benin and Heir Apparent to the throne of the Great Benin Kingdom. He migrated from Benin Kingdom and was crowned the first Olu of Warri. He reigned for a period of 30 years. He reigned from 1480 to 1510"

Lol you think itshekiri people are stupid to the extent of allowing an outsider to tampered with their history and smeared it with falsehood?

His name was Olu Ginuwa when they crowned him and none of the name have any meaning in Benin.

Olu is an obvious Yoruba name and Ginuwa(Iginuwa) even have meaning in Yoruba

Ginuwa was a full blooded Benin when he arrived the present day warri with the eldest sons of all Benin chiefs.

They agreed that the first son of every Ogiame born by his Benin wife should only be crowned. The people of warri has the right to change their tradition without interference from outside forces.

How can University of Ibadan be overrated lol?

They might have some internal issues and practices that need to be change, abhor and then exclude from their system but they are not overrated.

Their performance speak for them and they are always in the top list of any positive Index about Universities in Nigeria and Africa.

One of their students was the best graduating student in the Nigeria Law school and even the previous best graduating student was also from there.

Education / Fareedah Oyolola Emerges World Brightest Student (Johns Hopkins Center) by KingOdart(m): 7:23am On Aug 21, 2021
The Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth has honoured Fareedah Oyolola, a secondary school student at Greensprings School, Lagos, as one of the brightest students in the world.

This recognition is a result of her exceptional performance in the advanced School and College Ability Test (SCAT), which every student must undergo in order for the institution to determine their current academic abilities before admitting them into its talent search programme.

Sharing her experience about the test, Fareedah said: “The test was a multiple-choice aptitude test in verbal and quantitative reasoning, and I had to answer 100 questions within 44 minutes! At the end of the test, my score was in the 92nd percentile for verbal reasoning and 87th percentile for quantitative reasoning.

There’s no way I would have gotten these high scores with such a limited time window if not for the great work put in by my teachers, towards developing my comprehension abilities and mathematical reasoning skills. I am very grateful to them.”

In a statement issued by the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth, the Executive Director; Virginia Roach, congratulated Fareedah and other outstanding students across the world. She said, “We are thrilled to celebrate these students. In a year that was anything but ordinary, their love of learning shined through, and we are excited to help cultivate their growth as scholars and citizens throughout high school, college, and beyond.”

Mrs Magdalene Okrikri, the secondary school principal at Greensprings Anthony campus, also expressed her satisfaction with Fareedah’s honour. She said, “This honour brings great joy to my heart. Fareedah’s achievement is a testament that our Thinking School programme is rewarding to our students, helping them to develop mentally and strengthening their cognitive abilities.”

The Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth is an initiative of Johns Hopkins University committed to nurturing extraordinary young minds. Its 2020 – 2021 programme draws nearly 19,000 students from 84 countries. Fareedah and other honourees from other countries are expected to attend a summer programme in the United States or Hong Kong

5 Young Nigerians Make List of Most Brilliant Black Students in UK, One of Them Attended UNN

Rising Stars, an annual publication, that picks out top students in the UK has come up with a list of top 10 brilliant black students in the UK.

Out of the pack, there are five Nigerians on the list. These are people whose years of academic records really speak for themselves.

In this report, Legit.ng will be looking at these five Nigerians and what they have done.

1. Folu Oguneye When she was in Cambridge, Folu was a mentor to other students who wanted to come into the university.

Despite the financial burden her family was facing, she was able to balance work with schooling.

At A-level, the lady was able to get multiple distinctions, a feat that saw her getting a place at the University of Cambridge. She is now the CEO of Vamos Careers with a team of six.

2. Hope Oloye Hope was a precocious child. At the age of 13, she attended a lecture on neuroscience at the University College London.

That lecture made her fall in love with neuroscience and no wonder that was what she would study later at the University of Oxford.

She was among 300 people selected for the much-coveted fully funded Junior Research Fellowship at New York University.

3. Khadija Owusu grew up in the UK. In March 2012, she was invited to the White House by the then-American first lady, Michelle Obama for the exceptional essay she had written about her mother.

When she was in her third year at the University of London, she co-founded a charity called Melanin Medics.

The aim of the organisation was to give more voice to black and Caribbean students in the medical profession. The organisation later got £20,000 (N11,382,088.17) from the British Medical Association.

4. Nwangele Godwin (Emeka) Chukwuemeka Emeka who was born in Jos did his first degree at the University of Nigerian Nsukka (UNN) where he later finished as the best graduating student.

After series of achievements, he became a Rhodes scholar and went ahead to study for his masters in energy systems at the University of Oxford.

He has together with Enugu State Scholarship Board created Coal City Fellowship.

5. Segun Afolaranmi The young man grew up in Lagos. His parents are petty traders. Segun is not only good with books, but he is also an amazing public speaker.

After secondary school, he took his A-Level in biology, physics, and chemistry where he had straight As and got admission into the University of Ibadan.

During his graduation from school, he got over 30 awards for his excellence. He is the co-founder of a youth-based organisation called The Ganglion Initiative. He later got a Clarendon scholarship for his masters at the University of Oxford.

Sports / Closing Ceremony Wraps Tokyo 2020 After Team USA Tops Medal Table by KingOdart(m): 3:34pm On Aug 08, 2021
(CNN)The final medals are being awarded in the closing ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics, wrapping two weeks of competition overshadowed by Covid-19.

Team USA won more gold medals -- and more medals overall -- than any other country in the Games.

A total of 626 athletes competed for the USA at the Tokyo 2020 games, clinching 39 gold, 41 silver and 33 bronze medals for a grand total of 113 medals in 28 different sports. Overall, 257 members of Team USA won a medal, including 164 women and 93 men.

China and Japan, the host-country, were closest to matching the American gold-medal haul, winning 38 and 27 medals, respectively. The battle for most gold medals came down to the final day of competition, as Team USA's wins in women's volleyball and women's basketball pushed the country to the top of the chart.

In the total medal count, China finished in second with 88 medals, followed by the Russian Olympic Committee with 71 medals.

Team USA has now won the most medals at the Summer Olympics for seven consecutive Games, dating back to 1996.

Swimmer Caeleb Dressel won five gold medals, making him the winningest athlete of any nation at these Games.

"We kept our team safe and we're coming home successful," said Sarah Hirshland, CEO of the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee. "The Tokyo 2020 Games have been remarkable in so many ways and I'm filled with gratitude and pride."

"The athletes of Team USA honored themselves, their communities, their families, and all of us with their excellent performances in Tokyo," said Rick Adams, USOPC chief of sport performance and Team USA chef de mission.

A record 94 nations won medals at the Tokyo 2020 games, including Turkmenistan, San Marino and Burkina Faso -- all of which claimed their first Olympic medals ever.

Japan, Italy, Netherlands, Brazil, New Zealand, Chinese Taipei and Turkey also set new records for most medals secured at a single Olympic Games.

CNN's Eric Levenson contributed to this report.

This is what I hate about you Africans, always behaving as if the world own you something. How many of Chinese engineers trained by the West? China simply picked up the momentum itself seeing the opportunities beckoning with Western Companies moving their productions to its shores. It is normal for China to have colonial intent with its business exploration in Africa, but how are Africans taking advantage of these opportunities is the question? If Africa failed to capitalize on this to kickstart itself, even North Korea would come here to colonize us in future. Currently Africa has no China problem, i don't like people using this rabble-rousing about China to deflect on the real problem facing the continent. The failures in leaders we have in Africa will continue to play on our intelligence if we don't prioritize our cause of action. How are they ensuring that the presence of Chinese in the continent is beneficial to their people in the long run, not that they are just collecting free loans from China and looking away while the resources of the continent are depleted by their creditor? For instance, Buhari signed a bilateral agreement with China as part of the contract in the recently commissioned lagos-ibadan rail network to build an industrial plant in Ogun state that can manufacture train coaches and other mechanical parts of the locomotive. How are they ensuring that such project seen the light of the day and the margin benefits transfered to the country is the question?

So China is not our problem, how we use our relationship with China is.

You are the one that really need to get your fact right

I only called them racist and there were many cases of their racism and cruel and condescending behavior toward Africans to back that up, but you are the one talking about them like they are saints and depicting their activities in Africa as some charity works which is not and I'm trying to convince you against

I only said their approach have ulterior motives and they are racist which is true so I don't know about the entitlement mentality you are talking about

Can't you pass your message without being insulting? If you still think of colonialism or slavery in this 21st century, this shows your level of mental capability. This video will tell you everything you need to know about why China is investing heavily in Africa, watch it to upgrade your knowledge.

The summary is China is running out of growth potentials and it is no longer the destination for low-cost manufacturing the way it used to be before. Its middle class populations are increasing, so there is a high wage bill to pay for any manufacturing in the country. Africa on the other hand is one of the least developed areas in the world, for the lowest skills in manufacturing that will attract lowest costs of production, Africa is the best place in the world to invest. Just like China took advantage when the world moved their manufacturing to the country some decades ago, Africa needs to develop its technological capacity using the Chinese presence. The problem is whether Africa can replicate what China did some decades ago by using the technology transfer to kickstart its growth. Don't come back here to blame China or any country in the world for lack of purposeful leadership in Africa who can take advantage of this development.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQV_DKQkT8o

The problems with you Africans is you always failed to think ahead and believe most things are impossible which is why you lack ideas and ingenuity for development, your imagination is limited and you only believe what you see in front of you.

So you really believe China is here to developed Africa without getting anything in return? If so why did China wiretapped the African Union building they built and gave as a gift to Africa and spied on African Leaders for 5 years before they were discovered? I am sure those naive African leaders were also thinking like you too when it was offered to them.

If slavery is not possible in this modern Era who is stopping China from carrying out their atrocities on Uygur an ethnic minority in China?

If China become the world sole super power who is going to stop them from sending Africans to concentration and labour camps like they are doing to the Uyghur? Why do they want military bases in Africa and why did they built a military base in Djibouti? Ask questions and think ahead, don't just believe what you see, this is what make Africans fall victims to the Europeans we are too shortsighted.

So far China is only developing infrastructures and mining minerals resources in Africa, no technology or knowledge transfer or how many African workers have you heard were going under training in China for anything? They make use of their companies and engineers and they only use Africans for labour

Chinese infrastructure and assets development in Africa may look good on the surface but the implications of this is that they will be the one controlling African Economy and some major assets in coming years which is mainly their target. They already confiscated ports and some national assets from African nations that couldn't pay back their loans. All their efforts in Africa is to expand their economy and control some key assets in Africa and when they control Africa major economy and assets in the future Africa may not be able to regain it forever, making your next generation economic slaves to China, the next generation of Africans will also be cursing their ancestors and wondering how that happened to them because Africans are too shortsighted and stupid.

If China is so good why are they in dispute with most of their neighbours and encroaching on their territories ? Why are they claiming the South China Sea for themselves and want to control it because it is beneficial for their world domination agenda? China want to dominate the world and controlling some key assets in Africa and having a fair stake in Africans economy is part of that plan, if you can't realize that then you are really naive.

If China like Africans why did they target Africans in China during the Corona virus pandemic and forcefully evicted them from their homes and hotels like Africans were the source and cause of the pandemic?

China is trying to use Africa and Africans can take advantage of them and use them like the Chinese did to the Americans but first we have to realize the dangers that they poses, not through being naive, stupid and shortsighted like believing they truly mean well for Africa and are here to developed Africa.

Travel / Re: China’s Biggest Ever Aircraft Carrier In Pictures by KingOdart(m): 6:34pm On Jul 31, 2021

Actually Chinese are not as racist to Africans like the Caucasians, look at their investments in Africa, would you call those racisms? If they don't love Africa they won't come here to develop those infrastructures. Though Chinese are more racially homogeneous than the Europeans, give it to their strong cultures. But the truth is Chinese don't shy away in showing their displeasure with African lack of leadership and sense of self orientation, that is a big brother stuff to me, someone that tells you the truth even though it is bitter is better than someone that is cheering you while you trace down the path of destruction. I don't judge people by what they say or any rigmarole they are doing, I judge them by their actions, Chinese actions don't show people who hate Africans, they give cheap loans to African countries which some Western media are trying to tag a colonial takeover, how can someone lend you money to develop yourself with no strings attached and you are supposed to believe that such money is evil?

You are very ignorant and naive

Who told you there are no strings attached to the infrastructure contracts between African nations and China?

You must be really dull to believe China is doing Charities In Africa, all the minings Chinese are carrying out across Africa are in return for what? not to even talk about their loans you have to repay or else the assets developed by them will be confiscated.

When the Europeans first discovered Africa they initiated trading of goods and services and gave some Africans kingdoms what they wanted, those ancient Africans must had also thought the Europeans were generous and meant well for them until they came with their Army and plundered and pillaged Africa.

We are making the same mistakes again with China because we are too dumb to figure out anything on our own, tomorrow when the Chinese take control of Africa economy and your generation can only serve under them you won't blame your stupidity and lack of vision.
