The truth is that the last profitable Superman movie for WB was Superman 2. Three other Superman movies after that financially flopped and embarrassed WB. This is enough to tell you that Superman was becoming unattractive and boring. WB got so embarrassed with Superman portrayals and financial flops that they had to turn to Nolan, who referred them to Snyder. Superman was no longer iconic and fashionable as being implied by the media until MOS. I am very sure WB was happy with the financial returns from MOS; it was a clear and obvious break from the past. Yet people yell at Snyder for "Making Superman Great Again". Even Superman was ditched for Batman at the height of WB'S frustration for over 20 years until 2006 which flopped again. Imagine that? And you still think that MOS had a poor outing after over 30 years of consistent financial flops ?

you didnt get my post compared to its opening weekend it dropped drastically..... It doesnt matter whether it was the first of the franchise it had a solid opening weekend same with spiderman homecoming but its the weekend drops were let downs....

johns is still an ex. Producer for ww..... And about the directors.... Doug liman left because of scheduling problems... Rick had problems with the script.... The flash is now written as flashpoint and is pitched to robert zemeckis.... Nightwing, bat girl, shazam , ww2, all have directors , 4 dc movies will light up 2020 , 3 in 2019 . a titans series is coming in a new streaming service .....please johns is not the problem but the solution...

This will give you some perspective. Superman returns (2006) had a budget of $204 million with good critical ratings and it earned only $391 million. MOS (2013) had a budget of $225 million and earned $668 million and you called that underperformance? Seriously, that's enough fact. Snyder took over Superman project when WB was becoming clueless about their next step. Infact, it took Snyder and Nolan to bring a new perspective of Superman.

superman returns is a stupid movie and mos still underperformed for a huge budget movie..... I didn't say it didn't make profit but it underperformed....

i love dc but i sometimes avoid this thread cause its filled with snyderbots.... Snyder is a great director nd all and helped set up the dceu but snyder is not even among to me the top 10 directors in Hollywood and his movies have always underperformed at the B.O...... And not every director in the dceu should mimic his style ww, shazam, aquaman will always have a diff tone to it.....

Let me add that the 2006 Superman returns was modelled after the beloved Christopher Reeves portrayal, a cheesy Superman. Funny enough, the movie still bombed like a pack of cards. The same useless critics complained that Snyders should have used Reeves' approach for Cavill. Might I also mention that BVS Bluray sales is still among the top 50 in 2017. Talk about underperformance.

no one is talking about blu ray sales bo performance is important for continuity..... Like the power rangers movie bombed at the bo but still alot of merchandise sales but still no sequel in plans..... Imagine if it hit at least 500 mil they'll be currently shooting a sequel..... MoS underperformed at B.O its not even a debate it didnt bomb tho.... But johns is not responsible for the early troubles of the dceu the public couldn't relate to snyders vision still a great director of visuals tho but zack is wack at story telling..... Look at the chemistry btw steve nd diana in ww and compare it yo lois and clark.... Johns actually was a right choice to head dc films .....

the fact that the Superman returns movie was stupid does not give mos the right to gross less than 700 mil with a budget of over 200 mil and the 3rd most popular and loved superhero in the world i loved mos but i dont give excuses it underperformed....

I personally think Wonder Woman was just a notch above Suicide Squad. Both movies were weak and childish especially in the third act. In terms of motives and Philosophy, WW was just slightly better. Cinematography of WW was superior also. I will still place MOS and BVS above WW, not minding their box office returns.

bvs was a weak movie for me its all about opinion tho...

Warner Bros is just sick. Lord of the rings, Harry potter and DCEU are their most successful franchises. Unfortunately, they want to ruin DCEU projects because of their hunger for money. They had better learn from Universal pictures' failure in 2017. They already ruined Suicide Squad with no director to continue the narrative. It's so sad that they are losing directors for DCEU projects because of their distorted vision and mispriorities. I believe everything has gotten worse since Geoff John came on board. This is someone who has little knowledge of film-making but only knows DC characters. I just hope they don't dumb down JL and Aquaman.

on the contrary the dceu was in a mess before johns because no matter how you look at it mos and bvs underperformed both at the bo and critically.....

if what u say is true, how c0me logan, titanic, tdk, lord of the rings did well and got great audience review and BO boost? They weren't lightheartd films and for one, they provided variance fr0m other genre works.

logan is different that film was the perfect adaptation of the character, titanic is not a lighthearted story same with lord of the rings ..... DC CHARACTERS ARE NOT DARK read a comic book am sick of ppl saying they are not lighthearted cause they are.... I like the dceu and the modern representation of supes by snyder but supes has never been a gritty character... The tone of the character determines the tone of the movie because if you're looking for a serious and dark shazam then youre not serious nd if youre looking for a fun and lighthearted batman or watchmen.... Then...... You get the point?

youre getting it all wrong no one is saying the dceu should turn to the formulaic mcu but humour is an important part of cbm's i have a lot of dc comics and they are very humourous even batman gives sarcastic one liners ......

One of main strong points of wonder woman was how it balanced its humour not too much but enough to make the movie enjoyable, if you think the humour in ww was done wrong am sorry but you're wrong.....

WB are running a company, one thats among the big 6 in Hollywood , like it or not they are competition with other studios like or not the mcu is a rival to dceu like or not the mcu is ahead like or not mos and bvs underperformed at the bo. Like it or not critics matter audiences matter, if the general audience wants a bit more light hearted movies and the studio can do that without messing up the overall plot, then why not ....... Am not saying i want a movie like gotg2 in dceu, god no but a little humor as in ww and ss without letting down the message is ok with me.... WB are all about profit and have to take the most profitable route.... Lets wait and see jl and aquaman first....

I read some news yesterday that Cyborgs story and character was being lightened up in the reshoots. They said he was too dark and moody in character. But what did they expect him to be? Fun, Joyous and hopeful?. No human being would go through the pain Cyborg went through and be happy. He lost his limbs through a devastating accident and they were replaced with alien robotic suit. He should be more emotional than Superman, in my opinion. I just hope we aren't getting that hippy Cyborg from Teen Titans after these reshoots. Warner Bros is too reactionary!

You do know that WW unwittingly shares similarities with the first Captain America film? I wasn't perturbed by it, although I did have a nice laugh with the unintended effect of having an actor named Chris playing a character called Steve, who both go onto and destroy big a$$ planes. I see both films as very good representations of golden age comics with morally righteous eponymous leads.

Justice League 2 is too massive a project for Patty Jenkins, I wouldn't want her to direct JL2. Snyder is okay for MOS 2 but I thought Matthew Vaughn was already in contention for this. I heard there's a giant masterplan boarder at Warner Bros, UK with timelines and movie schedules. But it's obvious that these schedules are being readjusted. Snyder designed the first template of this board and wanted to base this phase of the DCEU on the old gods and new gods mythos. By the way, wasn't it Edgar Wright that directed that boring Ant man movie?

no it was payton reed i think edgar wright was a writer, patty can do jl 2 no doubt but she should not have total creative control, because i dontt think she can handle too many characters nevertheless i think she has proven herself to be a good director and am hearing wb is campaigning for best director oscar for ww..... so i think wb executives are very pleased with patty

dafuq is wrong with marveltards ........ the dceu is a completely different universe and saying its being rushed is stupid because in my opinion the dceu could have been started from a jl movie like they were planning to do in jl mortal...... building up from individual characters is one way to do it not the only way as long as it all comes together no pun intended....... Basically i prefer Dc because i grew up with this characters but i dont get why marvelites are so butthurt about some competition...... the DCEU is a financial success but not critically acclaimed, executives are doing the best they can do make movies that can be appreciated by everyone... you guys should leave DC alone and talk about your childish MCU and its crappy villains and generic formular (my opinion though).....
