Christianity EtcRe: The Lost Books Of The Bible by Kingsempires(m): 11:38am On Sep 12, 2024
LP78:
The Bible, revered by billions around the world, is a sacred text that has guided human morality, spirituality, and history for millennia.
But what if the Bible we know today is incomplete?
What if there are books, stories, and teachings that were once considered holy but have since been lost or hidden from the public?
These "lost books of the Bible" have intrigued scholars, theologians, and laypeople alike, offering glimpses into early Christianity and the development of religious texts.
This documentary seeks to uncover the mysteries of these lost books, exploring their origins, contents, and why they were excluded from the canonical Bible.

The Bible is not a single book but a collection of texts written over centuries. The Old Testament, or Hebrew Bible, was compiled over a long period, with texts that date back as far as 1200 BCE. The New Testament, which focuses on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ and the early Christian church, was written between 50 and 100 CE.

However, the process of deciding which books would be included in the New Testament was a complex and contentious one. In the early centuries of Christianity, there was no single, unified Bible. Instead, different Christian communities had their own collections of sacred texts, which they used for worship and instruction. These collections included the Gospels, letters from apostles like Paul, and other writings that claimed to be inspired by God.

The process of canonization, or deciding which books would be considered authoritative and included in the Bible, began in earnest in the 2nd and 3rd centuries CE. The early Church Fathers, such as Irenaeus, Tertullian, and Origen, played a significant role in this process. They sought to establish a set of texts that reflected the true teachings of Christianity and could be used to combat heresies, or false teachings, that were spreading within the early church.

The criteria for inclusion in the canon were not always clear-cut. Some books were included because they were believed to have been written by an apostle or someone closely associated with the apostles. Others were included because they had been widely accepted and used by Christian communities for many years. Still, others were included because they were seen as orthodox, meaning they conformed to the established beliefs of the church.

By the end of the 4th century, the canon of the New Testament had largely been established, with the 27 books we know today. The process was formalized at the Councils of Hippo (393 CE) and Carthage (397 CE), where church leaders affirmed the list of canonical books. However, this process also meant that many other texts, which were once considered sacred by some Christian communities, were excluded from the Bible.

These excluded texts are what we now refer to as the "lost books of the Bible." Some of these books were outright rejected by the early church as heretical, while others simply fell out of favor or were lost to history. But in recent centuries, many of these texts have been rediscovered, offering new insights into the early Christian church and its beliefs.

Among the most well-known of the lost books are the Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha. These terms refer to groups of ancient writings that were not included in the canonical Bible but were still considered important by some early Jewish and Christian communities.

The Apocrypha, which means "hidden" or "secret" in Greek, refers to a collection of books that were included in the Septuagint, the Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible, but were not included in the Hebrew Masoretic Text, which forms the basis of the Jewish Bible and most Protestant Old Testaments. The Apocrypha includes books such as Tobit, Judith, Wisdom of Solomon, Sirach (Ecclesiasticus), Baruch, and 1 and 2 Maccabees.

These books were accepted as part of the Old Testament canon by the early Christian church, and they are still included in the Bibles of the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches. However, during the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century, reformers such as Martin Luther questioned the authority of the Apocrypha, leading to their exclusion from the Protestant Bible. Despite this, the Apocrypha remains an important part of the biblical tradition, offering valuable historical and theological insights.

The Pseudepigrapha, on the other hand, refers to a collection of ancient Jewish and Christian writings that were attributed to biblical figures but were not actually written by them. The term "pseudepigrapha" means "false writings" in Greek, reflecting the fact that these texts were often written under pseudonyms. The Pseudepigrapha includes works such as the Book of Enoch, the Assumption of Moses, the Psalms of Solomon, and the Testament of the Twelve Patriarchs.

While the Pseudepigrapha were not included in the canonical Bible, they were highly influential in the development of Jewish and Christian thought. The Book of Enoch, for example, is an ancient Jewish text that describes the fall of the angels and the coming of the Messiah. Although it was not included in the Hebrew Bible, it was widely read in the early Christian church and is even quoted in the New Testament book of Jude.

The Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha represent a fascinating body of literature that offers a glimpse into the religious and cultural world of ancient Judaism and early Christianity. These texts provide valuable context for understanding the development of biblical theology and the diversity of beliefs within the early church.

One of the most intriguing discoveries in the study of the lost books of the Bible is the Gnostic Gospels.
Gnosticism was a religious movement that emerged in the early centuries of Christianity, characterized by the belief that salvation could be achieved through secret knowledge, or *gnosis.*
Gnostics believed that the material world was created by a lesser, evil deity, and that the true God was a higher, unknowable being who could only be reached through spiritual enlightenment.

The Gnostic Gospels are a collection of texts that reflect Gnostic beliefs and teachings. These texts were not included in the canonical Bible because they were considered heretical by the early church. However, they offer a unique perspective on early Christian thought and the diversity of beliefs that existed within the early church.

The most famous of the Gnostic Gospels is the Gospel of Thomas, a collection of 114 sayings attributed to Jesus. Unlike the canonical Gospels, the Gospel of Thomas does not include a narrative of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. Instead, it presents Jesus as a teacher of secret wisdom, offering insights into the nature of the divine and the path to spiritual enlightenment. Some scholars believe that the Gospel of Thomas may be one of the earliest Christian texts, dating back to the mid-1st century CE.

Another important Gnostic text is the Gospel of Mary, which presents Mary Magdalene as a key disciple of Jesus who receives secret teachings from him. The Gospel of Mary challenges the traditional roles of women in the early church and presents a more egalitarian view of Christian leadership. This text has been of particular interest to modern scholars and theologians, especially in the context of feminist interpretations of early Christianity.

The discovery of the Nag Hammadi library in 1945, a collection of 13 ancient codices found near the town of Nag Hammadi in Egypt, was a watershed moment in the study of Gnosticism. The library contained a wealth of Gnostic texts, including the Gospel of Thomas, the Gospel of Philip, and the Apocryphon of John. These texts have provided invaluable insights into the beliefs and practices of Gnostic Christians and have challenged traditional understandings of early Christian history.

The Gnostic Gospels represent a radical alternative to the orthodox Christianity that emerged as the dominant form of the faith. They offer a vision of Christianity that emphasizes personal spiritual experience and the pursuit of hidden knowledge, rather than adherence to established doctrine. While these texts were ultimately rejected by the early church, their influence can still be seen in various mystical and esoteric traditions throughout history.

In addition to the Gnostic Gospels, there are other early Christian writings that were excluded from the Bible but provide fascinating insights into the beliefs and practices of the early church. Among these are the Infancy Gospels, which focus on the childhood of Jesus, and other apocryphal texts that expand upon the lives of the apostles and other figures from the New Testament.

The Infancy Gospels, such as the Protoevangelium of James and the Infancy Gospel of Thomas, offer stories about the birth and early years of Jesus that are not found in the canonical Gospels. These texts were popular in the early Christian church and helped to fill in the gaps in the biblical narrative of Jesus' life. For example, the Protoevangelium of James, written in the 2nd century CE, provides details about the birth of the Virgin Mary, her upbringing in the temple, and the miraculous circumstances surrounding the birth of Jesus.
The Infancy Gospel of Thomas, another significant text, offers a portrayal of Jesus as a child. In this gospel, Jesus is depicted as a prodigious but sometimes mischievous boy with extraordinary powers, who performs miracles such as animating clay birds and healing the sick, but also exhibits behavior that some would find troubling, like striking down other children who offend him. These stories provide a more human, yet enigmatic, image of Jesus, contrasting sharply with the more mature and controlled figure found in the canonical Gospels.

While these texts were widely read and revered in certain Christian communities, they were eventually excluded from the New Testament canon. The reasons for their exclusion vary, but generally, these texts were seen as less authoritative or theologically problematic. The church fathers who determined the canon sought to include texts that were consistent with established doctrine and that supported the emerging orthodoxy of the church.

Another group of early Christian writings that were excluded from the Bible are the Acts of the Apostles, apocryphal texts that expand upon the lives and missions of the apostles. These writings often contain legendary and miraculous accounts that were intended to inspire faith and devotion among early Christians. Examples include the Acts of Peter, the Acts of Paul and Thecla, and the Acts of Andrew. These texts offer rich narratives about the apostles' travels, their encounters with various peoples, and the miracles they performed in the name of Jesus.

The Acts of Paul and Thecla, for instance, tells the story of Thecla, a noblewoman who becomes a follower of Paul after hearing him preach. Thecla’s story is one of unwavering faith, as she faces persecution, attempts on her life, and ultimately becomes a revered saint in early Christianity. This text has been particularly significant in the history of Christian asceticism and the veneration of female saints.

The Infancy Gospels and the apocryphal Acts offer a more varied and colorful depiction of early Christian life and belief than the canonical New Testament. They reflect the diversity of early Christian traditions and the ways in which different communities understood and experienced their faith. While these texts were not included in the official Bible, they have continued to influence Christian art, literature, and spirituality throughout the centuries.

The exclusion of certain books from the Bible was not merely a matter of theological differences or questions of authorship; it was also deeply intertwined with the struggle against heresy. As Christianity spread throughout the Roman Empire and beyond, various interpretations and teachings emerged, many of which diverged from what would later be recognized as orthodox Christianity.

The term "heresy" refers to beliefs or practices that deviate from the accepted doctrine of the church.
In the early centuries of Christianity, there were numerous groups labeled as heretical by the emerging orthodox leadership. These included the Gnostics, Marcionites, Montanists, and others who held views that were considered incompatible with the teachings of the apostles.

One of the most influential heretical movements was Gnosticism, whose beliefs, with their emphasis on secret knowledge and the dualistic view of the material and spiritual worlds, posed a significant challenge to the early church. The Gnostic Gospels, as well as other texts associated with this movement, were among those most aggressively suppressed by church authorities.

Another important figure in the history of early Christian heresy was Marcion of Sinope, a 2nd-century theologian who proposed a radical reinterpretation of Christianity. Marcion rejected the Old Testament entirely, viewing the God of Israel as a lower, wrathful deity distinct from the loving God of the New Testament. He also created his own canon, which included only a modified version of the Gospel of Luke and ten of Paul’s epistles, excluding texts that he believed were too influenced by Jewish thought.

Marcion’s teachings gained a significant following, but they were ultimately condemned by the early church. His ideas were seen as a threat to the unity of the Christian faith, and his version of the Bible was denounced as heretical. The church’s response to Marcionism was one of the factors that led to the formalization of the New Testament canon, as church leaders sought to establish a definitive collection of texts that could be used to counter heretical interpretations.

The suppression of alternative texts was not limited to Gnostic and Marcionite writings. Other groups, such as the Montanists, who believed in new prophetic revelations, and the Ebionites, who held onto Jewish Christian practices, also produced texts that were excluded from the canon and labeled as heretical. These groups were often marginalized or persecuted, and their writings were either destroyed or hidden away.

For many centuries, the lost books of the Bible were largely forgotten, existing only in the form of a few obscure references by early church fathers or in the traditions of isolated Christian communities. However, the modern era has seen a remarkable resurgence of interest in these texts, fueled by a series of extraordinary discoveries.

One of the most significant of these discoveries occurred in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when archaeologists and scholars uncovered ancient manuscripts that had been hidden away for centuries. Among these were the Dead Sea Scrolls, discovered in the Qumran caves near the Dead Sea in the 1940s and 1950s. The Dead Sea Scrolls, which date back to the 2nd century BCE to the 1st century CE, include copies of books from the Hebrew Bible as well as a wealth of other Jewish texts that were previously unknown.

The Dead Sea Scrolls have been invaluable in shedding light on the diversity of Jewish thought during the Second Temple period and the context in which early Christianity emerged. While the scrolls themselves are not "lost books of the Bible" in the Christian sense, they include texts that were considered authoritative by the Qumran community, some of which offer parallels to Christian teachings.

Another groundbreaking discovery was the Nag Hammadi library. Found in 1945 by a farmer in Upper Egypt, this collection of 13 codices contained a wealth of Gnostic texts, many of which were previously known only by name or through references in the writings of church fathers. The Nag Hammadi texts, which include the Gospel of Thomas, the Gospel of Philip, and the Gospel of Truth, have revolutionized our understanding of early Christian diversity and the development of Gnostic thought.

Janosky:
Let me itemize the points again.
*1The pertinent questions are :
Did God created angels before Adam?
Did angels exist before Adam was created?

To both questions the answer is Yes.

*2. Trinitarians claimed that "US" @ Genesis 1:26 & Genesis 3:22 refer to their 3 deities/persons.

The question is:

@ Genesis 6:6, did 3 deities or 3 persons expressed regret @ Genesis 6:6?
No !
Genesis 6:6 consigned Trinitarian claim to the dustbin.

@ Genesis 1:26, God said to the divine assembly (the Council of gods, @ Psalm 82:1 & Psalm 89:7.: "Let US make man."

*3.
@ Isaiah 6:8, "Who will go for us?"

Who are the " US" @ Isaiah 6:8?
Definitely not 3 deities.

But Isaiah the prophet & the divine assembly/council of gods (holy ones) in heaven. (The court of heaven).

Isaiah would not be given the assignment if was excluded from the "US ".
so explain Isaiah 40;13

Woke up this morning and noticed uniformed young children entering their parents car as they left mass.

And i can see that they do this everyday and they are already exhausted as they bottled up their anger and helplessness.

And it is with this spirit they would use to still go to school were they would get another torture and torment .

Why wouldn't there be fights in school as they pass on their pain and frustrattion to other happier and freer children? Or why wouldn't they fail in school as they are already tired, hungry and not listening? Or why wouldn't they hate life and living as their mother makes them feel life is hard and cursed?

And with all these churching, prayers would be made but it would seem God did not answer as their mother or gaurdian ensures that they remain in that wicked grind that she has created for them.

Thus, they grow up in bitterness and in pain and this is were they might become bullies or people who grow up and become adult bullies since they kept their rage and evil inside

And because of this wickedness, these children begin to be hating God, hating church and hatefulll of people most especially as all they see is the evils people do, therefore mama has ensured that they become atheist.

You still don't get it, what Jesus foretold about Hitler has happened even before Jesus was born two Galileans claimed they are the Christ both came few years after the other and they both gathered great army but died in the struggle just the same way Hitler perished.

Regarding these two men Jesus said:

"All those who have come in place of me are thieves and plunderers; but the sheep have not listened to them. John 10:8

After Jesus' ascension to heaven the Pharisees in the first century recalled the two men who claimed they are the Christ but died miserably:

“Men of Israel, be careful as to what you intend to do about these men. For instance, before these days Theuʹdas rose up, saying he himself was somebody, and a number of men, about 400, joined his party. But he was done away with, and all those who were following him were dispersed and came to nothing. After him, Judas the Gal·i·leʹan rose up in the days of the registration, and he drew followers after himself. That man also perished, and all those who were following him were scattered." Act 5:35-37

So what Hitler did was just a repetition of the troubles those first century Galileans did back then! smiley

Odumeje in a video message to his followers which went viral on Wednesday, said he does not turn to law enforcement when confronting his adversaries.

“When you come out for me on social media, speak against me once, I watch you, look at the weight of your speaking. You talk a second time, I watch you. The third time, I watch you. Then I see it is no more a joke; it has become a challenge.”

“The fourth time, then you speak, I look it again, I say this is a battlefield you set for me. You want to see power. The fifth time, I know you’re ready for me. Then I will prepare myself, bring down all the alter of power. Then I bring down Santus Sanitoria, bring down Citadel. If I don’t kill you, know that Jesus is not a true God.”

MaxInDHouse:
The Jews in the first century thought the same thing because if Jesus refused to join politics and his disciples also refused to join politics the Jews back then concluded saying:

"If we let him go on this way, they will all put faith in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation." John 12:48

They concluded that Jesus is useless to their nation so in order to prevent his teachings from going far they conspired to get him killed! John 11:53

Watch out for 99% of those who have become Ex-jws today Satan is using politics to turn their heads that's why they're filled with rage against us! John 15:17-23 smiley
me what I just understand is that Satan is HI-JACKING everything because what is happening in Nigeria is not happening every where in the world
