Education / Express Entry Draw: Canada Extends Invitations To 1,400 French-speaking Candidat by Kishaimmigratio: 5:56pm On Apr 25
Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) on Tuesday 24 April 2024 sent out invitations to apply (ITAs) to Express Entry candidates in the second draw making it the second draw this week.

The department issued 1,400 ITAs in a draw for candidates proficient in French.

During this draw, candidates needed at least 410 points in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to be considered.

Most of the draws done this year have been category-based. It's more like covering different categories like French proficiency, stem occupations, transport, etc...

Category-based selection draws were introduced in May 2023 to help IRCC target Express Entry candidates with skills that are in high demand, like language ability or job type.

Candidates in job-based categories need at least six months of full-time work experience in an eligible job in the last three years.

On January 22, 2024, the department introduced several changes to Canada’s international student program. Among them, IRCC said that the spouses of international students in undergraduate and college programs will no longer be eligible for SOWPs.

As of March 19, 2024, partners and spouses of international students are eligible for a SOWP only if their sponsor is enrolled in a master’s or doctoral degree program at a university or polytechnic institution in Canada.

There are some exceptions for the spouses or partners of undergraduate students. Spouses of undergraduate students in one of the following professional degree programs at a university are also eligible to apply for an SOWP:

• Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS, DMD).

• Bachelor of Law or Juris Doctor (LLB, JD, BCL).

• Doctor of Medicine (MD).

• Doctor of Optometry (OD).

• Pharmacy (PharmD, BS, BSc, BPharm).

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM).

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN, BSN, BNSc).

• Bachelor of Education (B. Ed.).
