6. USB Type-C Although not widely adopted yet, many devices shipped with USB Type-C connector, allowing for faster and efficient charging. Another awesome thing about the connector is that it’s reversible (you can plug your cord in whatever manner). USB Type-C is also versatile. Aside from charging, it can be used to connect smartphones to monitors, headphones, and external storage devices. |
5. 4G VoLTE Support Many devices offered VoLTE support in 2016. The VoLTE (Voice over LTE) technology allows users to place and receive calls over an LTE network instead of the traditional voice network. This makes for better call quality, improved coverage and connectivity. |
4. Fast Charging Fast charging technology is gradually becoming a standard. It works by reducing the time it takes to charge your phone by increasing the power supply to it. Smartphone manufacturers adopt different technologies to achieve this, but Qualcomm’s Quick Charge is the most common. Qualcomm recently announced Quick Charge 4 which can give you five hours of battery life from just five minutes of charge. |
3. Better Selfie Cameras Selfie has come to stay, and many manufacturers are taking advantage of the craze. ViVo recently released a “selfie-focused smartphone” dubbed V5. The device packs a massive 20MP front-facing unit for the selfie lovers. A lot of features are also thrown into selfie cameras to make them more appealing. |
2. Dual Camera Dual camera setup on the rear was a major highlight in flagships like the LG G5, Huawei P9, and Apple iPhone 7. The HTC Evo 3D was the first device to feature this setup, and then the One M8 by the same company also shipped with it. The functionality is implemented differently on various devices. In the Huawei P9, one camera has an RGB sensor while the second one is used to capture monochrome details. This two work together to create a high quality image. The LG G5 however works differently – there is a normal camera with a standard field of view, and a second one with 135-degree wide angle lens for wide shots. |
1.Fingerprint Sensor Fingerprint sensor technology on mobile devices has been around for a while, but it became popular after Apple added the feature to the iPhone 5s in 2013. Today the technology has gone mainstream, and is being featured in high-end as well as budget devices to enhance security. Aside from unlocking devices, the sensor is also used to make secure transactions. In most devices, the sensor is either placed on the back like in the LG G5 or embedded in the home button as seen in the HTC 10. Manufacturers are also making sure that the sensors are more accurate and boasts faster unlocking speed. |
2016 saw a lot of developments in the smartphone industry with new technologies springing up, and old ones being improved upon. Chinese smartphone manufacturers like Xiaomi, Huawei and Oppo experienced notable growth as they gained more grounds globally. The big players in the market, however, had one thing or the other on their plate – Samsung and the Note 7 dilemma, while Apple faced a decline in its market share and sales. Notwithstanding, it turned out to be a great year and its time to take a look at some of the smartphone trends that rocked 2016. |
Billions of people use Google to make searches online, but only a few know how to use it efficiently and get the most out of it. Here are 10 tips that will help you get you better results when using Google. 1. Search Within A Specific Site To get results from a particular site only, input your query in this format – keyword site:sitename. For example, if you type virtual reality site:techcrunch.com, Google will bring up all content related to virtual reality on TechCrunch. 2. Use Dash(-) to Exclude Keywords If you want to perform a search and don’t want sites with certain words to appear in your results, then use a – sign before the keyword to exclude it from your results. For example, if you search for the word squash, your results pages will contain the type of vegetable and the type of sport. If you want to search for the type of vegetable only, enter your query like this: squash -sport. Remember to leave a space before the dash(-). 3. Use Asterisks to Search for Unknowns Have you ever wanted to search for a phrase like a lyrics or popular saying, and you didn’t know or remember some terms? Using an asterisk as a placeholder for the unknown will make Google automatically fill it and display your desired results. An example is “a monkey in * is a monkey * *” 4. Find Sites That are Similar to Other Sites Placing “related:” in front of a site will show you sites that are similar to it. For example, if you type related:gsmarena.com, Google will bring up websites that are similar to GSMArena. 5. Find a Specific File Type or Format To search for a specific file type, place “filetype:” in front of the file type you’re looking for. For example, renewable energy filetype:ppt 6. Search Multiple Words or Phrases at Once Using “OR” between search terms lets you search for multiple words or phrases at once. For example, typing in virtual reality OR artificial intelligence will include the two search terms in your results. 7. Use Quotation to Search for Exact Phrase Lets say you want to search for something and want the results to come up in that exact order, putting your search term in quotation marks will give you exact matches in the results. For example, “when all hope seems lost” will give you results in that order. 8. Find Pages Linked to Another Page Use “link:” to find pages and sites that are linked to another. For example, typing in link:www.quora.com will show you all indexed sites that are linked to Quora. 9. Search a Range of Numbers If you want to find content relating to a specific range of numbers, Google can display this for you. For instance, if you type 3D printers $100..$300, Google will bring up 3D printers within the price range of $100 to $300 . 10. Find Word Definitions To find the definition of any word, just use the format – “define:keyword”. An example is define:marketing. Hello Oooops, i know MTN can be tricky at times, but let me explain something to you. All you needed to do was just load N2000 recharge card. You didn't need to send any text/code to them - and they would have given you the free 3.5GB. I think you actually subscribed to a data plan by sending that text. I got a similar text - "Load N500 within 3days and get 1GB". I actually wanted to subscribe my data but since i got that message i just loaded the N500 to enjoy the 1GB first before subscribing. I got about 50MB from them earlier and was using that to browse and after it finished i couldn’t use the 1GB to browse. Then i was like - chei MTN, you people have deceived me, and i had to subscribe my data. But after subscribing my data and using about 40MB, the free 1GB started working and that's what i'm using to browse now. So, in your case, what happened is - the message they sent you was a bit confusing and you didn't take time to read it. So, sorry bro, i know how painful that can be. But next time, shine your eye well.. |
Nice tip. It may come in handy one day. Thanks for sharing. |

mjames:Just search for any of them on google(or any other search engine you use). Most of them are either the first or second in the search results. Then click on the link to go to the homepage. |
Dclique:That may be true, but you never can tell what will happen in the near future. |
“Google it!”. I bet you’ve heard that phrase or something similar like a million times (I know, you’re like…..) https://i68.tinypic.com/2m9w2e.gif Hey! Just kidding. But seriously, don’t you hear or say that often in relation to searching the web? For most internet users, Google is the only platform they think (or know) of when it comes to making searches online – and that’s quite understandable. I mean, Google is the dominant search engine in most countries of the world. But today isn’t Google’s day. It is for other players in the search engine game. So let me quit talking about Google. The aim of this post is to put the spotlight on other search engines that deserve some recognition – the well-known ones and the not-so known. And let me quickly add that, sometimes, Google may not give you the best results (or should i say, the results you are looking for), so you may have to turn to other available sources for answers. It’s like not putting all your eggs into one basket. OK! Enough of the talk. Here are 11 other search engines you should be using besides Google. 1. Bing This search engine doesn’t need an introduction. It is Google’s top contender in the search engine game. With a market share of over 20%, the Microsoft-owned search engine has been able to position itself as a viable alternative to Google. Bing has an attractive homepage with frequently changing backgrounds, and does a little better than Google when it comes to basic search. Although it has been able to convert some Google users, it still has a long way to go before it can be considered the leading search engine. 2. DuckDuckGo If you are fed up with Google’s tracking habits and need a search engine that will respect your privacy, then DuckDuckGo is definitely worth trying out. It doesn’t keep track of your searches to serve you personalized results and ads. It promises not to use identifiable cookies, save your search history, and collect your personal data. Aside being privacy-focused, DuckDuckGo offers a bunch of other interesting features. With !bangs, you can make searches on specific websites. For example, if you want to make a search for bluetooth speakers on Amazon, just type “!a bluetooth speakers”(without the quotation marks), and it will take you directly to the Amazon’s search result page for that query. You can even use the google bang (!g) to search google whenever you want to. 3. Wolfram Alpha Wolfram Alpha is a computational knowledge engine. It’s the site you should be searching when you need facts. It does a lot of things Google can’t. It can handle complex scientific and mathematical problems. Just give it a problem to solve, and it’ll give you the answer, and a step-by-step explanation on how to arrive at the answer, if you care to know. You can also enter two terms in the search box, and Wolfram Alpha will compare them for you. Whether its animals, websites, cities, countries – just anything and it will do a comparison for you. 4. ChaCha ChaCha is a human-powered search engine. The concept is simple. Just input your query and hit the search button to get results. If you are not satisfied with the results, you can chat with someone who is knowledgeable on the topic you are researching. The people who answer the questions on ChaCha are called Guides. They get paid for each search they conduct. 5. StartPage StartPage is a privacy-focused search engine that returns Google search results. Although the search results are generated by Google, it does not use identifying cookies, record IP addresses, collect or share personal information. It also uses a proxy service that allows users to anonymously view websites listed in the results. But this has a downside, pages load more slowly because Startpage has to retrieve the contents and redisplay them. 6. Ask Formally known as Ask Jeeves, Ask is more of a question-answer platform known for accepting queries in natural language. It also lets you search the web like a search engine does, but aims to deliver answers, not just links. 7. Yandex Yandex is Russia’s most popular search engine. It provides a lot of similar services as Google, and supports queries in several languages. Search results are displayed in a nice format with favicons placed on the left of each search snippet. Overall, it’s a great search engine that is definitely worth checking out. 8. Dogpile Dogpile used to be the choice search engine back in the day, until Google came along and took over. The search engine is gradually getting back on its feet and continues to aggregate its results from multiple sources like Yandex, Yahoo, and of course, Google. Some of Dogpile’s features include search filters, white pages, favourite searches and preferences. 9. Internet Archive This isn’t the kind of platform you’ll need to visit frequently for regular searches. You’ll find it most helpful when you need materials for academic research or want to go down history lane. This digital library houses millions of valuable information including images, software, books, videos and more. It also lets users check how a website looked like at different times in the past. 10. Mahalo Just like Chacha, its results are human-powered. It relies on a committee of contributors who sort out and submit search result pages to a centralized database for publishing. The results Mahalo provides will certainly be fewer than that of Google and the like, but it promises to deliver higher quality content and relevant results. 11. Yippy Yippy is technically a metasearch engine that is also dedicated to personal privacy and conservative values. It also searches out those contents that are not indexed by conventional search engines. So whenever you need to explore the deep web, Yippy will gladly be at your service. CONCLUSION There you have it. 11 other search engines you should be using besides Google. Which of the search engines do you love to use? Or is there any search engine you love that wasn’t mentioned in the article. Source: http://www.techrade.com/11-search-engines-using-besides-google/ |

We’re all pretty familiar with emojis and use them often to spice up our conversations. You can say that they help one to express thoughts and emotions in better ways than written words. For instance, instead of having to type “I am angry”, you could use an angry emoji face to express your emotion. This in fact, agrees with the saying that a picture is worth a thousand words. https://i64.tinypic.com/2ujgxat.png How it all started Emoji originated from Japan. Shigetaka Kurita created the first set of emojis for cellphones while working on i-mode (a mobile internet platform) for NTT Docomo – a Japanese mobile communication company. But they only gained worldwide popularity in 2012 when Apple included it in iOS 6, after which Android and other platforms adopted them. Today, emojis have become an integral part of our communication in messages and social media networks like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. What does Emoji really mean? Well, according to the popular Oxford Dictionary, Emoji is a small digital image or icon used to express an idea or emotion in electronic communication. The term emoji is a Japanese word and it literally means “e”(picture) + “moji” (character). Tell me more… Emoji was standardized by Unicode in 2010 in order to make them compatible across different devices, platforms and networks. In 2013, the word Emoji was added to the Oxford Dictionary alongside other popularly used words like selfie and phablet. Merriam -Webster also added it to its vocabulary index in 2015. Emoji has grown over the recent years and is still expanding with new characters being added to the set every few years. They have become really prominent that in 2015, Oxford Dictionary chosed “Faced with Tears of Joy” emoji as its Word of the Year. According to Instagram Engineering , the rise in the usage of emoji on Instagram has led to a corresponding decrease in the usage of internet slang. For instance, “https://i67.tinypic.com/30bz6zp.jpg is taking the place of “lol”, “lmao”, “lmfao” and other similar slangs. This is a similar occurrence i’ve observed on other social media platforms. Industries and brands are also using emojis for marketing. Well, what can i say? Emoji has truly become a part of our digital culture, lets enjoy the emerging way of communication.
