Axolotl
This salamander is a strange one (in more ways than immediately meets the eye). It’s like a permanent teenager — as an adult, it retains most of the amphibious features of youth: external gills, a tail, and an aquatic lifestyle.

However, if you inject an axolotl with other salamander hormones, it turns into something like a normal salamander. While the axolotl is beloved by scientists for its ability to regenerate its limbs, that fancy trick hasn’t saved it from becoming critically endangered

Jerboa

You’ve probably never seen or heard of Jerboas because they’re mostly found throughout Arabia, Northern Africa, and Asia. They live in the scolding hot desert where they run around as fast as 15 miles per hour.

This little guy looks much like a mouse or a rat, but it’s actually equipped with large eyes and ears meant for nocturnal activity. The most bizarre part about the Jerboa that clearly separates it from common rodents is its hind feet with central bones for speed and leaping.

Purple frog
This awkward lump of an animal is certainly a unique sort of frog. It’s got an itty-bitty face — earning it the additional name of “pig-nosed frog” — and lives exclusively in India. Its tadpoles live on algae-covered rocks, using their sucker-like mouths.

The adults, however, live mostly underground. Local people eat the tadpoles and use the species in medicine. Some people turn the frog into an amulet and give it to children in an attempt to quell their fear of storms. Unfortunately, this use and deforestation have made the purple frog endangered.

Greater sage-grouse

This weird-looking bird is a male sage-grouse. His chest is adorned with large air sacs, which he uses to attract females by making them produce odd popping sounds. The males congregate in groups across the shrubland of western North America called “leks,” calling to females.

However, these fantastically bizarre birds are decreasing in number. One species is near-threatened, while the other is endangered and has only 1,700 adult birds left. Human use of their habitat has shrunk their population.

Glaucus Atlanticus

The Glaucus Atlanticus is beautiful. It’s a type of sea slug that is found in the Indian and Pacific oceans. The blue color acts as camouflage. Although these slugs are adorable and can be tempting to touch, they can produce a powerful and painful sting

The Bush Viper

This snake is beautiful but deadly. Its bright colors help it hide from prey and predators. It lives up in the trees of the tropical forests of Africa. This snake does most of its hunting at night and is not often seen by humans

Another snake for Lala oooo.

But this snake is fine.

Can you keep this fine snake as a pet?

Japanese Spider Crab

If you are afraid of spiders, you might want to look away. This monster is found in Japan. It’s not a spider, though; it’s a species of crab. It can grow to be over 5 feet wide, and it uses its long legs to get around and catch prey.

Blob Fish

This fish looks like a man that melted on the sidewalk. It has two small eyes and a large nose. It even has a mean smirk on its face. It’s a rather large fish and looks just like a giant blob. These fish are found off the coasts of mainland Australia and Tasmania, as well as the waters of New Zealand.

Yeti Crab

This strange crab is covered in fuzzy white hair. No wonder it’s called the Yeti crab. These crabs are rarely seen because they live in deep-sea hydrothermal vents and cold seeps. They have only recently been discovered.

This big rodent is exactly that, a big rodent. It is related to capybaras and looks similar to rabbits. These rodents can be found in open and semi-open habitats in Argentina. They eat plants and spend long periods basking in the sun.

Dumbo Octopus

This cute little guy is a dumbo octopus. It has large fins that look like elephant ears. These help it get around and are the reason for the name. These octopuses live in warm oceans and eat crustaceans, bivalves, worms, and copepods.

Tufted Deer

This deer might look a little scary with those long fangs, but it’s actually harmless. This species lives in China and is a close relative of the muntjac. The numbers are dwindling due to hunting and habitat loss.

Maned Wolf

This long-legged and skinny wolf can be found in South America. It’s the largest canine in South America, and it looks a lot like a fox. These wolves aren’t related to foxes, though. They might look scary, but they don’t attack humans. They eat fruits, vegetables, and small animals.

Pink Fairy Armadillo

You may have seen a regular armadillo before, but you probably haven’t seen one like this. This species prefers to stay buried in dry dirt. When it rains, they come to the surface. They are the smallest type of armadillo and they have sharp claws that allow them to burrow into the dirt.

Aye-Aye
Is it a Chupacabra? Is it a baby werewolf? No, it’s an Aye-Aye. This strange animal lives in Madagascar and is related to lemurs. Aye-ayes have large teeth, and their eyes are so big because they are nocturnal and need to see at night. Some people find them cute, and others find them hideous.

Me I dont find this animal cute at all

A couple things to know about these fish: they can survive on land for up to four days and they’re top level predators who eat frogs and other aquatic wildlife, in addition to other fish.

If that’s not enough to scare you, consider the sharp teeth lining their mouths and throats — which they are not afraid to use to protect their young. While they are native to Asia and Africa, they were illegally introduced to the United States, where they are an invasive species

Pacu fish are closely related to the piranha, but unlike they’re man-eating, razor-toothed cousins however, pacus have human-like teeth, which they use to crack through nuts and seeds. A few years ago, stories of pacu biting of a man’s testicle were widely reported on the internet, but experts say such a thing is unlikely as the fish are vegetarian.

Although they are native to South America, they have been turning up all over the globe due to aquarium owners carelessly dumping them after they get to their max size of 10-12 inches.

You might be tempted to laugh at the size of this monkey’s nose, but it turns out that when it comes to wooing females: the bigger, the better. According to the National Geographic, the males’ ridiculously large noses “create an echo chamber that amplifies the monkey’s call, impressing females and intimidating rival males.”

Proboscis monkeys are some of Asia’s largest monkeys with adult males weighing up to 50 pounds. They love snacking and fruits and leaves, although they’ll eat insects occasionally.

At first I thought it was promiscuous monkey

It looks like a cross between a horse and a zebra, but the okapi is actually closer to giraffes. Like it’s cousin, the okapi feeds on the leaves of tall trees using it’s long tongue and spreads it’s legs as it lowers its neck to drink water. It also has large sensitive ears that pick up the slightest sounds from far away.

Speaking of dragons, this lizard from Southeast Asia is probably the closest we’ll come to flying dragons (although honestly, you never know!) It has small wing-like appendages that allow it to soar gracefully through the air over 30-ft distances. It turns out flight has quite a few advantages for this lizard — including quickly evade predators and showing off to potential mates.

Thorny devils or thorny dragons look like something straight out of Game of Thrones, but instead of breathing fire and snacking on wildlife for lunch, these benign creatures eat only ants.

A thorny dragon’s entire body is covered in tiny “spikes” which provide protection from predators. But get this: when water (like dew, rain drops, etc) collects in the grooves between those spikes, it gets pulled toward the dragon’s mouth via capillary action.

This odd-looking turtle lives in rivers and streams in Southeast Asia, where it spends 95% of its life motionless beneath sand or mud and only coming up for air twice a day. Why? Well, unlike other turtles who have hard shells for protection, these turtles have a rubbery layer of skin covering their ribs.

Still, the Cantor’s giant soft shell turtle has long claws and a bite that can cut through bone. Capable of growing up more than 4 feet in length, it is one of the largest living species of freshwater turtle.
