Politics / Boko Haram Kills 100 Nigerian Soldiers: Buhari Blamed For Poor Political Decisio by Kongonya(m): 1:11pm On Nov 26, 2018 |
Boko Haram kills 100 Nigerian soldiers: Buhari blamed for poor political decisions By Socrates Mbamalu on November 26, 2018 — 100 Nigerian soldiers were killed by Boko Haram in an attack that shocked Nigeria and the world. Eeben Barlow, a South African mercenary who has fought against Boko Haram has blamed President Buhari for making poor political decisions. In a Facebook post Barlow said Buhari claims that Boko Haram ‘technically defeated’ was false. Nigerian Army soldiers of the 72 Mobile Strike Force with the vehicle of Eeben Barlow. Photo: Facebook/Eeben Barlow 23 On May 29, 2015 Nigerians were hopeful that a former military general, Muhammadu Buhari, now a reformed ‘democrat’ would succeed where his predecessor Goodluck Ebele Jonathan had failed. The fight against Boko Haram, tackling corruption, and growing the economy were high on citizens’ priority list of issues which needed attention. So far, President Buhari has failed woefully. In his swearing in speech President Buhari said, “The command centre will be relocated to Maiduguri and remain until Boko Haram is completely subdued.” Boko Haram has not been subdued, neither has it been “technically defeated”. In recent news, more than 100 Nigerian soldiers lost their lives to Boko Haram in what is now called the Metele attacks. South African mercenary Eeben Barlow, the chairman of Specialised Tasks, Training, Equipment and Protection (STTEP) International, a privately-owned military, intelligence and law enforcement training and advisory company said on Facebook in a post titled ‘The Ongoing Conflict in North-Eastern Nigeria’: “The recent spate of Boko Haram attacks in northeastern Nigeria have negated President Buhari’s claims when he assumed power in 2015 that the radical Islamist group (many being thugs who have hijacked the religion of Islam for their own purposes) had been ‘technically defeated’. His narrative that Boko Haram was ‘technically defeated’ was false as soon as he uttered those words”. “There is, in a purely military sense, no such thing as a ‘technical defeat’—something the President, as an ex-military man ought to know. Sadly, he also chose to make the successes of 7 Infantry Division and 72 Mobile Strike Force (MSF) his own, when it wasn’t,” the post reads. In the post Barlow further writes, “President Buhari and his team were, however, part of the political leader group that led the vocal charge about STTEP’s presence in Nigeria, making it a burning political issue even before they assumed office. Indeed, they made it known that the company’s presence would not be tolerated under his office. Read: Nigeria’s army says air strike kills Boko Haram commanders Read: War on Boko Haram: Amnesty International Reproaches Cameroon for Torturing Suspects The initial 3-phase campaign strategy (known as ‘Operational Anvil’) to degrade and destroy BH in Borno State, was rejected by his advisors. Instead, pressure forced only a small part of the campaign to be successfully implemented before we were ordered to pack up and leave. They were, however, quite happy to allow the armed forces to receive both substandard training and the incorrect equipment provided by both foreign governments and their PMCs—along with the worst possible ‘military advice’. When this approach failed, the military could be blamed for any lack of success.” Barlow further explained how the military had been used to the point of exhaustion. During the week, a video surfaced online of Nigerian soldiers complaining of how they were being killed by Boko Haram. The soldiers lamented about the lack of sophisticated weapons to fight the terrorist group. In one of the videos, a soldier showed a 1983 Czechoslovakia armour tanker which they used to fight Boko Haram. Despite President Buhari signing the release of $1bn in April 2018, to procure more weapons to fight Boko Haram, for the Nigerian soldier fighting violent extremism the battle remains difficult. Barlow said, “The reality is that these forces can be defeated. But victory requires more than a few soundbytes. Soundbytes do not—and never have—resulted in victory over an enemy. Ultimately, the innocent suffer and soldiers die, and every tactical victory Boko Haram achieves merely incentivises them to continue. This also gives impetus to the plans and actions of other radical terror groups across the continent. North-eastern Nigeria is an example of what can happen when intelligence is rejected in favour of a false narrative. Don’t blame the armed forces when poor political decisions result in the deaths of people.” https://thisisafrica.me/boko-haram-kills-100-nigeria-soldiers/?fbclid=IwAR03tJu4vBfbUrakBVlKDR9R3v-h_7SosN8E0L91pxhy0RzNK7jWt-MvTW4 |

Politics / Shocking! Jonathan Won 2015 Presidential Election, Our Resistance Group Fought T by Kongonya(m): 10:33pm On Oct 18, 2016 |
Shocking! Jonathan won 2015 presidential election, our resistance group fought to throw him out, return power to the North - Ango Abdullahi 18/OCT/2016 Shocking! Jonathan won 2015 presidential election, our resistance group fought to throw him out, return power to the North - Ango Abdullahi PARIS, OCTOBER 19, 2016: (DGW) Professor Ango Abdullahi has made a stunning revelation almost one and half years how former President Goodluck Jonathan was rigged out power in the 2015 presidential election. According to the Daily Sun newspapers published on October 16, 2016, Prof. Ango, the Secretary and spokesman of NEF, Professor Ango Abdullahi, while speaking in a pre-summit address conveyed in Kaduna, north central Nigeria to address the problem facing the north and Nigeria under the APC-led administration, he said as a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), there was no way he could have worked for the success of another political party. He said, “with due respect to those of you who are in APC, the APC did not win election here, take it or leave it, it is the resistance groups that mobilised people to really take the election.” Daily Sun further reported that he charged the APC on how to manage the success that the resistance group gave them, adding “now that you’ve won the election it is up to you to manage success, it is one thing to get success and another thing to manage it. “And this is the stage we are in now, how to manage success, and this is why this summit was convened for people across the North to come and air their views on what really is the problem. Whether you accept it or not there are problems.” Ango explained that the decision to return power was reached after what happened following the death of former president Umaru Yar’Adua, and some Nigerians including northerners conspired to abort the power-sharing agreement reached by the PDP. “When we saw in 2010, having been denied the chance under the rotation agreement for the North to really provide the president after Umaru’s death, automatically we knew there was grand political conspiracy against Northern Nigeria, no question about that,” Professor Ango said. |

http://cctv-africa.com/2016/04/13/senegal-government-to-launch-new-national-carrier/ WHEN IS HE LAUNCHING NIGERIAN AIRWAYS? Senegal government to launch new national carrier Senegal’s finance minister, Amadou Ba has announced plans to launch a new national airline to replace the loss-making Senegal Airlines. Senegal Airlines, which was founded in 2009 to replace defunct predecessor Air Senegal International, had its air operator’s certificate revoked last month amid a mounting $78 million in debts. The carrier was a joint venture between the private sector and the Senegalese state. It went through a restructuring program last year reducing the 230-strong workforce by 40% and giving the remaining employees a 40% pay cut. Ba gave no further details about the new airline, but analysts say that a new Senegal carrier could also face significant challenges in the face of increased international competition putting a squeeze on African airlines. |

HIS MATE Mugabe — who has been in and out of the country no less than seven times in the past three months — spends at least $2 million for the duration of the chartered Air Zimbabwe aircraft wherever he travels and allowances of his staff. Well-placed government sources said Mugabe alone receives $600 000 in allowances on each trip, with each aide travelling with him getting a minimum of at least $500 per day depending on the destination. Besides the travel allowances, the government pays for the President’s hotel stay, where he is booked with at least 60 aides, including a medical doctor, in top-class hotels. “The President gets $600 000 in allowances for his incidental cover, and in the past two months, Treasury has paid at least $3,6 million for the presidential allowances, excluding the money given to his aides,” a source within the Office of the President said. “Air Zimbabwe gets on average $1 million for each trip depending on the route and how long the President will spend on that trip.” The Office of the President manages its own budget. https://www.newsday.co.zw/2015/03/25/mugabe-blows-10m-on-foreign-travels/ 1 Like |
Business / Re: Naira Exchange Rates Today by Kongonya(m): 2:23pm On Mar 23, 2016 |
The nation’s falling foreign reserves is not the fault of President Goodluck Jonathan, the Society for One Nigeria, an Abuja-based group, said on Tuesday. The group, which rose in defence of Jonathan over the accusation of Olusegun Obasanjo, former president, that the present government had depleted the foreign reserves by $25 billion, argued that the ex-president’s administration was just lucky, as it did not experience a plummeting of oil price leading to its ability to increase the foreign reserves to about $43.17 billion in 2007. It said instead of constant criticisms, the Jonathan administration should be commended for keeping the foreign reserves at $34.4 billion against the backdrop of falling oil price, oil bunkering and sabotage of oil facilities. The group also argued that the fall in the nation’s foreign reserves and the depreciation of the naira were both related to exogenous global factors, which are not under the control of anyone. The group reasoned that while Obasanjo boasted that he left $43.17billion in the reserves, he failed to mention that his ability to do so was simply due to rising oil prices during his tenure. “As of May 1999 when Obasanjo became president, oil price was $14.74 per barrel. By May 2007 when he left office, oil price was $68.75 per barrel, representing an increase of more than 350 percent,” it said in a statement issued by Abubakar Danladi, its spokesman. “This increase in oil prices enabled the Obasanjo administration to increase our foreign reserves to about $43.17 billion in 2007. In contrast, President Jonathan assumed office in May 2011 when oil prices were $117.18 with foreign reserves at $32.1 billion. “Since mid-2014, global oil prices have been falling precipitously from a peak of $116 per barrel in January 2014 to about $58 per barrel in January 2015. Despite this significant fall in global prices coupled with rising incidence of oil bunkering and sabotage of oil facilities, the country has managed to maintain $34.4 billion in foreign reserves, a level that is higher than the $32.1 billion which President Jonathan met when he assumed office.” The organisation further argued that Nigeria was undergoing significant pressures from spillovers resulting from three factors that no single country has control over. It listed the factors as end of quantitative easing by the United States Federal Reserve, which implied that the monthly injection of about $85 billion into the global economy suddenly ended; the sustained fall in oil prices from a peak of $116 per barrel in January 2014 to about $58 per barrel in January 2015; and subsisting sanctions against Russia for its alleged role in the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. It argued that given Nigeria’s interconnectedness with the global economy and its dependence on crude oil proceeds, the economy had been affected like other economies. The civil society group listed some emerging market countries that had experienced a drop in their foreign reserves as a result of the drop in global oil price to include Chile, Czech Republic, Egypt, Ghana, Hungary, Kenya, Malaysia, Morocco and Russia. It added that while some countries like Russia had depleted their reserves by nearly $75 billion in 2014, Nigeria lost only $9.2 billion in reserves from the reduction in the price of crude oil. It concluded that although the average depreciation in exchange rate for the countries under consideration was about 11 percent, Nigeria’s exchange rate depreciated by eight percent. 1 Like |

Buhari Returns To Nigeria After UK Vacation And Medicals; To Embark On Three-Nation Tour Of Egypt, Saudi Arabia And Qatar President Muhammadu Buhari is on his way back to Nigeria from the United Kingdom following an abrupt five-day vacation he began in London last week. BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORKFEB 10, 2016 President Muhammadu Buhari is on his way back to Nigeria from the United Kingdom following an abrupt five-day vacation he began in London last week. SaharaReporters sources said his Presidential jet departed London for Abuja at exactly 13.45hrs GMT. The President had abruptly embarked on the vacation after participating in a Syria donor conference in London. SaharaReporters reported that that his handlers had merely inserted him into the Syria conference as a cover for a medical visit to his doctors. It is unclear why his healthcare is shrouded in secrecy. The President stayed at an apartment in the Knightsbridge area of London, but sent the bulk of his aides back to Nigeria. Our sources say that following meetings with his doctors over two days, he rested in the apartment until today. Since leaving Nigeria, there have been speculations about his being sighted in Saudi Arabi, but SaharaReporters can confirm that the President did not leave London until today. He is expected to be in Nigeria for the next two weeks, but will resume his foreign tour on February 24, if everything goes as planned, with a three-nation state visit to Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. While in Saudi Arabia, President Buhari is expected to perform the Umrah, as well as visit Makka and Madina. |

JONATHAN ADMISTRATION WAS PROTECTIVE OF NIGERIA AND NIGERIANS IMAGE.....BUHARI ACTUALLY ATTACK THE IMAGE FG Summons Zimbabwean Envoy Over Mugabe’s Attack On Nigeria The Federal Government on Thursday summoned the Zimbabwean Head of Chancery over remarks credited to President Robert Mugabe, which depicted Nigerians as very corrupt people. FG Summons Zimbabwean Envoy Over Mugabe’s Attack On Nigeria The Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Zimbabwean Head of Chancery, Stanley Kunjeku, in Abuja to formally lodge a protest. The Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Martin Uhomoibhi, described Mugabe’s comment as “vitriolic and denigrating on Nigeria and Nigerians”. He said, “We were very concerned when we read that on the occasion of the 90th birthday of President Mugabe, he took off considerable time to vituperate about Nigeria. What we consider to be a strong aversion of our country, remarks which we consider denigrating and un-statesmanly on Nigeria and Nigerians in general. He was reported to have said Nigerians are corrupt people when he hosted service chiefs on his 90th birthday. We want to present the strongest protest in that statement; not only does it not reflect the reality in our country, but to come from a sitting president of a brotherly country is most unkind and very dishonourable.” Uhomoibhi said the Zimbabwean president’s comment was unfortunate, given the role played by Nigeria in the liberation struggle in southern Africa. He said, “Nigeria had always stood with Zimbabwe shoulder to shoulder since independence and was one of the first countries to congratulate Mugabe on his re-election. At the point sanctions were imposed on your country, Nigeria empathised with Zimbabwe.” Later, the permanent secretary told newsmen that Nigeria’s reaction to the comment was not belated, given that it had been in the public domain since March 15. “In our diplomatic parlance, we do not react the way people would want us to react; we have to verify and articulate our position,” he said. In his response, Kunjeku said Nigeria’s protest would be forwarded to Harare. Meanwhile, Uhomoibhi has condemned the reported attacks on Nigerians in South Africa last week. Uhomoibhi said, “We condemn in strong terms, any acts of racism, xenophobia and discrimination perpetrated by whomsoever, including in that particular country. We are appalled that these incidents occur from a country that we hold in highest esteem and which is a brotherly country to Nigeria. We hope that due processes would be taken so that this does not happen (again).” The permanent secretary also called on the South African Government to take appropriate actions against those responsible for the attacks. He urged South Africa to abide by its commitment to international standards of behaviour and cordial relations between both countries. On April 2 and 3, some wounded Nigerians were hospitalised in Pretoria after attacks by organised gangs in South Africa. Also, no fewer than 25 shops owned by Nigerians in Johannesburg and Pretoria were looted by the South African gangs. |

[s] abduljabbar4:[/s] Goodluck Jonathan Today, November 20, President Goodluck Jonathan celebrates his birthday. He would definitely receive lots of gifts and warm greetings during the day. Apart from congratulating him, we decided to look at Jonathan’s presents for Nigeria in 2014 and some of his biggest achievements. 1. Terrorism and problems of the North Several special programmes were launched: the Presidential Initiative for the Northeast (focused on improving infrastructure and economic growth in the region), the Victim Support Fund (a partnership with the Private Sector that has raised about 60 billion Naira to help empower and rehabilitate the victims of terror), and the Safe School Initiative (centred on creating a safe environment to encourage our children in the communities to acquire education). According to the Presidency, “they would contribute into development of peace in Nigeria.” 2. Water sector The water sector has significantly improved. Latest numbers indicate that 67% of Nigerians now have access to potable water. In 2010 just 58% used to have it. National Urban Water supply programmes are going to be launched in 12 states. Port Harcourt-Gombe segment, as well as the branch line from Kafanchan to Kaduna, expected to be completed and fully operational by December 2014. Ports in Nigeria now operate 24-hour service, which has led to the reduction of clearing time and improved efficiency. 4. Social sphere Nigeria met its Millennium Development Goal One on reducing hunger and extreme poverty, two years ahead of 2015 target set by the United Nations, and was given an award by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. READ ALSO: Goodluck Jonathan And Buhari: Top-10 Quotes 5. Health The Ebola Virus Desease was stopped in Nigeria. Realizing the imminent threat, the president declared a national emergency, pulling states, local authorities and the Federal Government into action. New Polio Virus cases were reduced from 300 in 2010 to 6 today. 2 Likes |
