A suspected kidnapper and a murderer, who gave his name as David, during questioning has confessed to how himself and his friend, Sunday, conspired to abduct and kill his female boss, who owned a school where he was working as a security guard before the ugly incident. While he was talking during the interview (Between 0-2:30 minutes) with Symfoni correspondent, he said, "My name is David, what brought me here is that I killed a child with a creche teacher on the 23rd of July. Me and my friend demanded for the ransom of N250 million. Later, we settled to collect N3 million and while we were sharing the money, me and my friend had problem. Sunday now stabbed me with knife, took the money and ran away. I struggled and took myself to someone's house and told the person all that transpired." Further talking, he said, "I did not tell the person the truth that time, because I was afraid the community people might kill me. I was insisting of seeing the police people, so that they would take me to the hospital, and I would explain everything better. Where police came, they took me to the hospital and asked what happened. I narrated everything to them from the beginning, and also told them how we killed the victims and dumped their bodies."

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has expressed disapproval over what it described as “appalling and ridiculous transportation behaviour” by Nigerian road users.Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO), Olusegun Ogungbemide, told THE WHISTLER that the commission has identified recurring infractions and is actively addressing them. He noted that many offenders knowingly violate traffic laws to test enforcement limits. Ogungbemide explained that traffic violations have become a persistent issue despite ongoing arrests.“We are very much aware, and this is common with the issues of traffic lights; if you visit our various offices, you will see them being addressed. “The issue of traffic offences and the transportation sector is just like a church. “You know every Sunday the pastor calls out for first-timers; it is an indicator that fresh sinners are waiting to be converted. The same applies to the issues of offences on our roads. “The more we arrest, the more we see newcomers, and the more we also have the reprobate ones who will want to test the waters. We have never overlooked it; we have reasons to arrest them; their records are there, and we call it overloading,” he said. According to him, some offenders feel emboldened by previous escapes from arrest and openly admit their intent to continue flouting the rules. Some drivers will tell you that they won’t stop, and on the days they are not arrested, they will make up the money lost. These are reprobate offenders. “For reprobate offenders, we have their records, based on a series of arrests, and we can also decide not to give fines but rather proceed to court,” he added. He stated that the Corps monitors repeat offenders through a point-based system. “When you are booked, the points attached to your offence will also count on your driver’s licence, so the moment it gets to a particular point, either you are suspended or the driver’s licence is withdrawn,” he explained. Asked about additional strategies to curb traffic offences, Ogungbemide highlighted the judiciary’s critical role in strengthening enforcement. |

Nigerian DJ Dimple recounts being detained, stripped, and forced to sleep on a cold floor by Philippine immigration despite valid travel documents, sparking outrage and demands for justice online. Nigerian entertainer and international DJ, DJ Dimple, has shared a harrowing experience of detention and dehumanization by immigration officials in the Philippines, igniting global outrage and calls for justice on social media. In a detailed public statement, DJ Dimple revealed that upon arriving in the Philippines, she was abruptly denied entry without explanation, despite having all the necessary travel documentation. What followed, according to her, was a disturbing 48-hour ordeal that included being detained in isolation, denied communication, forced to UnCloth, and made to sleep on the floor without food or proper bedding. “They took my phone and passport. I was held for over 48 hours, wasn’t allowed to talk to anyone, and they made me sleep on the floor… They made me take off my clothes completely and searched me like a criminal,” she wrote in the emotionally charged statement. The incident, which took place at Mactan-Cebu International Airport, has sparked immediate backlash from Nigerians and human rights advocates across social media platforms. The hashtag #JusticeForDJDimple is trending, with many demanding accountability from Philippine authorities and intervention from the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to DJ Dimple, she had traveled to the Philippines for vacation and was booked to stay at a five-star hotel. However, immigration officers allegedly treated her with suspicion and hostility, repeatedly questioning her intentions, even after confirming her bookings. “They never told me why they denied me entry,” she added. “They just decided I didn’t deserve to be in their country.” The DJ also claimed that she witnessed other African nationals—particularly women—being subjected to similar degrading treatment, raising concerns about racial profiling and systemic discrimination at Philippine ports of entry. “This is not just about me,” DJ Dimple emphasized. “It’s about every African who has been silenced and mistreated for simply holding a passport that others see as a threat.” The incident serves as a stark reminder of the treatment many African travelers face abroad—despite following all legal procedures and carrying valid documentation. |

A devastating fire swept through an industrial site in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Sunday, resulting in property losses totaling millions of naira. The incident struck Shril-Balaj Industrial Limited, located in the Olopomeji axis of Ibadan, thrusting the company into a critical situation. The inferno, witnesses say, erupted in the recycling section where discarded tyres were stored en masse. This section quickly became engulfed by flames, fueled by the flammable materials on site, causing extensive damage to the facility’s resources. According to Maroof Akinwande, Chairman of the State Fire Service, who addressed the tragedy, emergency services were notified about the fire around 7:07 am on Sunday. He explained, “The fire incident was a result of the explosion of a running machine, which ignited nearby combustibles and set the section ablaze.” He further clarified that, despite the loss to the recycling segment and the destruction of countless worn tyres, the fire brigade’s swift response prevented the spread to other areas within the complex. “The fire affected the recycling section and disused tyres, whilst the fire service was able to save other sections of the company from the devastating fire,” Akinwande stated. Efforts are ongoing to assess the full extent of the destruction, with company officials and emergency responders working to restore normalcy to the affected industrial site. The financial impact is anticipated to be significant, with focus now on recovery and safety reassessment. Authorities have emphasized the need for heightened industrial safety measures in similar environments across the city to avert such disasters in the future. |

In a league match when I was with Inter, my idol and inspiration, the phenomenon Ronaldo, was standing across from me with AC Milan, ready for kick-off. I looked at him closely, hoping he would feel and understand that I wanted to challenge him in this match. But when he looked at me and smiled with his famous innocent smile, I realized that deep down, he saw me as a baby in football, not as a rival or equal. That alone was an honor for me. He is the reason I fell in love with football. I didn’t care. I kept staring at him. I walked over to him, greeted him warmly, shook his hand, and said, “We’ll win today, Ronaldo.” Ronaldo smiled again and said, “Zlatan, if I were fully fit and healthy, I’d have something to say. But unfortunately, I’m struggling. Injuries have taken their toll. I’m not who I used to be.” I went back to my place feeling happy and proud. The phenomenon didn’t want to challenge me. But when the match started and he began running, I was shocked and stunned. Was this the same player who had suffered multiple injuries? And he’s playing like this? He stepped up, scored a stunning goal, and created another incredible chance in the first half, with more dangerous opportunities. Then suddenly, at halftime, I heard he wouldn’t be able to continue the match. The injury he had before the game had worsened during the first half. I rushed to see him, and he was sitting in the room, sad and in pain, his eyes filled with tears. I said to him, “What’s wrong?” To be honest, the scene split me in two. I didn’t know what to say. He told me, “I’m sorry, Zlatan, I can’t continue playing.” I asked him in disbelief, “Were you serious when you told me you were injured?” He said, “Yes.” I thought to myself, “Injured and playing at that level? Is he even human?” I was late for the second half. They were calling me, and I ran out, still thinking about what he said. That’s when I realized: If I could play like Ronaldo while injured, I’d be a miracle in football. So imagine how he played when fully fit. He was my role model in every way. He is the greatest in history. |
