I ordered a Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus around July/August and was told to pay around 10k as custom fees when I went to collect it at the post office.

I was told that a DN has been placed on the item by customs. The reason for that, I don't know.

Maybe those who are into cargo/shipping business on nairaland can educate us on the types of item that attracts such charges but I doubt cos some of them too benefit from this as stated by the OP.

Anyone with more information on how this works can share.

You can google "dn attached to package by customs" and see some nairaland threads returned amongst the search results.

For those who buy from aliexpress regularly. Have you guys had any experience where you were asked to pay for Customs duty on an item at the post office when you go to pick up.

I ordered a Xiaomi phone recently and when I went to pick up, I was told I will have to pay 10k plus as a DN has been applied to the item by customs.

Can you guys who are experts enlighten us on how to avoid this type of charge. Could it be the shipping method etc.

If you bought it used it's likely the previous owner has activated an anti-theft feature on it that forcefully switches on GPS to detect the user's location in case the phone is stolen.

did you added fuel to the car or changed engine oil prior to the engine fault light coming on?

Nope. I did not.

The only thing I did was add coolant to the radiator as it was empty and coolant reservoir cos I noticed it had gone below the low level.

i can bet your car original mileage is more than 88k miles, its been rolled back. I'd bet my big toe on that, meanwhile did you hear any 'KPOM' sound in the front, engine or gearbox specifically?

I suspected that the mileage has been rolled back as well but I had ran a VIN check on it and the report came clean. As for the Kpom sound, I can't seem to hear any sound or notice anything wrong with the performance of the car except for only the 'check engine' sign that suddenly came on.
