I was filling my HMO form at my new place of work and I got to the section where they ask for children date of birth, I have actually forgotten to ask my wife, so I left the column blank.

I submitted the form. But was called by the HR department days later to confirm her date of birth. I didn't know the excuse to give, but I was ashamed of myself when I told her I need to confirm from her mum and she said 'yee' I can imagine what she must be discussing with other colleagues at the moment.

I promise myself to avoid the HR department for a month

From the terms of the contract, the company can only deduct any UNPAID salary if they have expended more than 500k in training you and you decide to leave their employment. If they haven't spent up to 500k in training you, you're free to leave their employment, subject to any other terms of the contract (which weren't posted).

[img][/img]From the contract documents you signed, it is quite clear that during probation period you are entitled to Two weeks notice if you want to leave the employment. This is fine and quite unambiguous.

Secondly, there is also the training bond which you are bound to as well. Training bonds are not new in the industry, these are avenues companies use to keep their employees after such huge investments on your the employee.

As you rightly mentioned, you have attended such trainings and certifications issued.

If you leave the employment before the window as prescribed under the bond, you shall pay the balance to the company and in most cases, if you have any outstanding payments with them e.g salary or any entitlements, the company has the right to deduct from same and where it is not enough to defray the cost, the HR will contact to make such payments. In this case, you can reach an agreement with them either to pay by installments or give a particular period to pay in full.

Note of warning: please do the right thing for your career sake. You may need them tomorrow for some reference purpose or otherwise.

From my personal experience, I advise your tread with caution and if you must, make good your escape! Do not exit rancorously!

There are more things to consider in your choice other than remuneration. The accommodation provided by the new offer, is it really worth it, in terms of convenience? Some companies might provide accommodation merely as a trap to enslave your!

Since the place you are at present offers discriminatory Salaries, even at the same levels, it is an advantage for you to bargain for increase, using the evidence of your new offer. it may not immediately result in an increment for you, but it will serve as a goodwill for the future.

A company that sponsors even new recruits to Certification Training has good potentials for career development, especially if you at the early stages of your career.

Also consider the status of the two companies as going-concerns (i mean sustainability) There's no point opting for the offer of 280k per month only to be owed Salaries or laid off eventually due to cashflow challenges.

The difference between the two salaries can easily be equalized by daily commute costs or lunch expenses, so do additional due diligence!

So many other aspects to consider, but in all, choose wisely. Not all that glitters is gold, they say!

As regard the inequality in the payment, I can't stand doing the same job with a collegue and being paid less... Although I would endure if I didn't have a another offer, but I will keep job hunting.

I will like to be brief, I joined this new company April and I am still within my 3 months probation period but I will like to leave due to the fact that I got to know there is inequality in payment of staffs even in the same level. I think that is one of the reasons why they claim salary must be kept a secret.

The issue now is that I have undergone several trainings and issued about 3 professional certificates. Will I have to pay for the training as indicated in the bonding agreement whereas the termination clause states that either party can withdraw having given 2 weeks prior notice.

*Note: the present job is roughly 220k without accommodation in Portharcout and my new offer is 250k with accommodation in the same state

I made a post few days ago as regard my visit to Lagos (V.I) from Osogbo for interview and was charged #600 for printing 3 pages C.V which normally cost #150 (#50 per page) in Osogbo.

The good thing is; I got the job which salary is a bit considerable but without accommodation. I made findings online and contacted an agent who told me I can get a room self contained for 1.2 million... I repeated 1.2million to the man like 5 times and the man hissed and hang up the call.

I swear, with 1.2million, I will buy an uncompleted building in Osogbo on a full plot of land. What is really happening in Lagos. Is Lagos still in Nigeria sha? Because I am damn confuse ooo. How will I rent apartment for 1.2 million.

To make matter worst, he told me I can get apartment in mainland for 350k. And I will still end up spending up to 1k on tro and fro daily transportation.

Is Lagos really for me sha?

Printing per page at N200 is exorbitant. I guess it must've been the location you went to. Island, perhaps?

In mainland Lagos, some people print N100, some N50.
I'm places like Yabatech or Unilag, it's usually N20 or N30.
If you want to print voluminous pages, it's better to go to tertiary institutions.

I am Osogbo base but went to Lagos yesterday for an interview, i didnt print a copy of my CV so i decided to branch a business center to do so. the good thing is that the shop was open even as early as 7 a.m compared to Osogbo people that wont open shop until 10 a.m and even 12 pm sometimes.

I entered into the shop and met a lady who asked me to transfer my file to the company mail which i did... grrrrrr document came out and i open my wallet with dignity and gave the lady 1000 expecting change of 850... but to my surprise, she gave me #400, at first, i didnt say anything thinking maybe she is still trying to find the rest of the change.

Then this lady sat down and continue with another customer document, i then said "excuse me, my change is not complete" i was moved to tears when she told me its #200 per page. i couldnt say anything as i have to respect my suit and tie and package my self out of the Cafe.

i went out of the shop and noticed my shoe is dusty and i need to shine it which normally cost #50, i saw one aboki by the road side, I pulled out my shoe and put on the slippers he offered me. just as he was dusting the shoe, my spirit just told me to ask for the price and to my surprise, he said #100... i didn't know when i screemed "for shinning shoe?" oga dont worry, gimme my shoe back... nah so i take commot for his front and use my hand take dust am

1. Managers need a broad set of skills to be effective and decent at their job. It's not that a younger person can't do it, it's that they're less likely to have the training and experience for it.

2. The positions you're going for are honestly not that challenging unless the site/facility is large, with a lot of staff, and offers a number of services. Generally speaking, your tasks and responsibilities are pretty narrow and repetitive. Still, it's not surprising that hiring managers are concerned you're not ready for the responsibility.

3. You're getting valuable experience and that will open doors. You need to articulate your experience and responsibilities instead of worrying about perception. You should also take opportunities to get more training. Attend workshops, conferences, and etc. Also, you may be applying for positions that differ too much from what you're currently doing in terms of scope.

4. Regardless, you're doing great! You've lasted where others didn't, and a number of companies are interested in your talent. So many people would love to be in your position.

Good afternoon nairalanders, I will try to be brief.

I graduated 2018 as a 25 years old boy, went for service in 2019 and started working at a private secondary school as a teacher. The pay was poor and i began job hunting with about 30 different CV's for different job positions.

To cut the long story short, I got an interview invite for a managerial position in a hotel that I have no idea of. A week to the interview date, I did my homework and research about the job details, prepared for the interview and I pass... Ever since, I have been doing well.

The only challenge i have is the manner at which people get sacked at my place of work. As a matter of fact, myself and 2 other line managers are the remaining one out of about 13 of us employed in July 2020 and the fear of being sacked has made me to keep on with my job hunting game.

Now I am 29, with a slim stature and a childish/female-like voice. With the power of my CV, I have been invited for interview by the 2 best international brand of my industry Marriott and Hilton, but the moment I show up, the first thing I use to hear is are you sure you are Mr ****, then after the whole interview,they will be like; 'you are good but still small'

Now I am depressed and I have been trying to hit the gym to see if there can be a change in my size.

My question is; what has age got to do with leadership, potentials and capability? And what will you advise?

Mumu me use Tricycle move my things to her house, nah that night we open the milo and milk, before day break; milk don reach half ... to cut the long story short, nah my school bag containing cloth follow me reach Ilorin. that Semester was hell for me.
