Car TalkRe: RESOLVED - Transmission Issues: Honda CRV 2002 model by kormene: 3:47pm On Nov 15, 2021
Wow, how did I get here? Have been researching on CRV tranny issues now for weeks to no avail.
Carelessly I haven't serviced my tranny for about 2 years now cos last time I went my mechanic said I disturb too much that my oil is healthy thus I should leave it.
That went into my head and I forgot to service gear for two years now.
Trouble started when I went to fix my suspensions and I carelessly asked my mech to gauge my tranny oil which he did and shouted that it was empty.
I had no extra cash on me cos I was only prepared for my suspensions, however, I asked him to top it up with 1 litre Oando something ii oil I use which he did and that was it.
Trying to drive out I noticed delayed engagement and he said it was cos of no oil which I doubted but long story short we ended up pouring 4 litres and thing became worse.
1. Delayed engagement from P to D
2. Uneven switching when driving
3. On speed slippage

God, am tired.

He said I should service the sensor abi solenoid which I did and later changed it from another another Honda car.

Bottom line is gear still bad.

From this trend think I'll do a scan on the car before anything else.

Any suggestions plz help meanwhile thanks I really appreciate your all

To me, your reply is the best so far. I use an '02 Honda CRV
I'll go with you on

1. Regular oil change either with months or Millage, for me I use two months Or 2000 Miles.

I use Forte Oil super V or Viscos 2000 25W50 reason being that
1. I was told (as usual) that it leaves engines cleaner with less sludge when compared to other lubricants. I am yet to confirm that but plan to interview different Mechanic.
2. Due to the economic crunch and the high cost of other lubricants.

As at now my car is doing good, my major problem with my car is high fuel consumption which I think is from
1. My AFM
2. O2 sensors
3. Or cold engine due to the thermostat I removed
Car TalkRe: What Causes A Car To Start Consuming Fuel Excessively by kormene: 10:10am On Mar 17, 2016
This is a nic thread cus this low millage issue aka high fuel consumption eats me up n I thank God n u guys for really dissecting the issue.
I drive a CRV 02 as my 1st car n must confess d car is a BOMB!
Don't get me wrong I mean d car is great n indeed a good buy especially in terms of engine performance.
The issue am having now is that due to bad road and ageing, am spending more now to replace parts.
One of which is what I've learnt from this forum. I think my catalytic con, air filter needs replacement n maybe my injector needs servicing. I think I also have unmetered air flowing into d engine tru broken air pipes which I'll change or seal cus like I said b4 my fuel consumption has gone up d roof.
Once again I say thanks guys

Hmmm in bearly 5yrs u have close to 200 k mileage. Was the car used for space shuttle?
Attack d dealer with d true mileage and ask 4 price reduction if u want to go ahead.

[quote author=Icon4s]. Yes! I also noticed it 4 some 96-01 models. It's a sweet SUV 2 drive in town bt nt d best 4 off-roads.[/quot

Of what use is an SUV if it can't perform off d road?
Car TalkRe: Nigerians Dont Care About High Mileage? - Is It True by kormene: 12:39pm On Jul 29, 2013
Hmmm, u don come oh, we are trying to mit up, u come day raise d bar lol.
It will b nice if we can lay our hands on all records b4 we make purchase.

earthrealm: even mtn/glo have a fair usage policy on their data bundle...so how wud cars be exmpt?
I would be happy buying an 05 model car with 100k miles...than the one with 230k miles........in the same vein..i would also be suspicious of an 05 model car with 25k miles.........I would be happier/more comfortable buying the one with 80k than 25k........unless I know the original owner personally...and hva ccess to the maintenance/service records.......not just vinrecords
Car TalkRe: Nigerians Dont Care About High Mileage? - Is It True by kormene: 9:17am On Jul 29, 2013
elektra80: Lets say a buyer goes to Mr A (a car dealer) to buy the same crv and Mr A being honest has 2 of the same SUV he wants, one with odometer reading of 187,000 and another one with odometer reading of 85,000, both cars are clean titles. (Note that both cars are 11 years old). Mr A says the price of the higher mileage car is 1.45 million and the one with 85k mileage is 1.6 million. The buyer leaves the shop and tries another dealer. He goes to Mr B another car dealer and Mr B doesn't have the kind of car he needs. Mr B being a businessman would not tell the buyer he doesn't have the car, he will tell him he should sit down while he goes to bring the car from his other showroom. Then Mr B calls Mr A (most dealers know themselves ) and Mr A says he has the car but the buyer wouldn't want to pay more for the low mileage and doesn't want the high mileage either.

SO Mr B goes to Mr A, picks the car with 187,000 mileage and rolls back the odometer to 82,000. Then brings it to his showroom and shows the buyer. After much negotiation they agree on a price of 1.55 million. The buyer pays and drives away. Mr B pays mr A 1.5 million and takes 50k as his commission. Now who are u going to blame in this situation?

If u ask an average Nigerian 'what is the price of a 1999 toyota camry (Pencil light)'. He will say 900k. Most buyers don't even know the difference between LE, XLE, SE, LX, EX, EX-L. To them all trims are the same. I see a lot of 1999 camry in showrooms with mileage less than 90k. I mean 90k for a 14 year old car, that is almost impossible. Might be possible but would be rare and it will never sell for 900k. But then that is what buyers want and as a businessman u have to give them what they want, hence rollback odometer.

The car dealership in this country is messed up and right now only the dishonest dealers are making money while the honest ones are not making any sales. Nobody wants to be in a business where he doesn't make sales.. let's face the fact. A honest dealer spends lots of money to bring a clean title car with low mileage into the country and puts a reasonable price on it, and other dishonest ones have the same car that are not clean title and odometer rolled back and sells it for a cheaper price. How many buyers have access to the internet? I can tell u that 80% of buyers out there doesn't know anything about carfax, they just want to buy a car and drive, and they go for the cheapest deals. SO I will not blame the dealers. Until the country enforces laws dealing with odometer rollbacks and give grin enough awareness to end buyers.. I'm pretty sure that is not gonna happen anytime soon. The government have more important things to tackle first. Then this issue will continue for a long long time.

My advice is after buying ur ride, check all parts and replace the ones that needs to be replaced with genuine parts, service ur car regularly and whenever a fault arises, fix it before it affects other things. IF U CAN'T DO THAT, THE BEST ALTERNATIVE IS TO BUY A BRAND NEW CAR grin grin grin
You deserve a bottle
Car TalkRe: Nigerians Dont Care About High Mileage? - Is It True by kormene: 2:59pm On Jul 28, 2013
I want to ask, does the mileage really mater as the driving condition and maintenance abroad keeps d car fit as if it were new.
Car TalkRe: Nigerians Dont Care About High Mileage? - Is It True by kormene: 2:46pm On Jul 28, 2013
Wooooo, people need to b orientated about this Odometer stuff it's a clear case of fraud.

So what's d way forward? Or are we just going to complain and trade blames and counter blames on each other?

I think d Odometer form stuff should b made compulsory just like d certificate of ownership.

Got a TOKs 02 crv in April '13

Have not gotten any issue and will not by Gods grace. Plz need help

1. Can anyone help with d VIN:Jhlrd78862c043986 report

2. Do I change/flush all the liquids eg gear, ATF, break etc since I don't no when it was last done to avoid damage to d care.

3. A warning SRS light is permanently on in my dash board. Any danger

4. I serviced d car with 1gallon as in 4liter gallon of MOBIL engine oil but my mechanic is insisting I add half or 1liter more but am afraid of over gauging. Should I since it has already gauged to me?
Car TalkRe: Honda CRV Owners Forum by kormene: 1:32pm On Jul 28, 2013
paix: I used the 97 model for 2 yrs and later bought the 05. I had issues with the a/c and the fuel consumption is on the high side compared with the 05.
I think its not proper to compare d2 as 05 has bigger stuffs than 97. If not for anything, it weigh more. Hope u no d weight of a car adds to it's fuel consumption.
Car TalkRe: Nigerians Dont Care About High Mileage? - Is It True by kormene: 10:12am On Jul 28, 2013
Nice discussion here, just got a direct TKB crv 02 with a mileage of 80k from4m a dealer @1.55k and something tells me it was doctord.

Honestly i didn't care about d mileage which goes to confirm d gist. I was excited in getting my 1st car and was thrilled by d fact that it looked good and was in SUV class.
How dum of me, I think it has to do with our orientation.

The Odometer form thing should b enforced in Nigeria else we will become a dumping ground where we don't get value for our money.

Plz how do i get d exact mileage? Jhlrd78862c043986

Do I change all fluids (ATF, break, gear etc) before use
Car TalkRe: Honda Crv 2002 Or Camry 2000 by kormene: 9:35am On Jul 28, 2013
Gee, ws in Ur position b4 I got my car and bet u nearly all of us were abit confused however, Ikena hit right.
My own advice is Ur daily road route should determine 4u. If its ok then a saloon cus think it will b cheap to maintain but also think ul hv 2 visit your mechanics more often.
However, I got a crv 02 in April cus of my route and have not gotten any issue and will not by Gods grace.
