With the cost of shipping, exchange rates and competition in the Nigerian market, I believe choosing the right product is more important than simply buying cheap products. Personally, I would look for products that: * Have high demand in Nigeria * Are easy to sell online * Are not too expensive to ship * Have good profit margins * Can be reordered easily from the supplier For those already importing or selling products, what would you import with ₦500k in 2026? And for those who are yet to start, what product would you love to import from China if you had the capital? Let’s hear your ideas. 👇🏽
|
After years of sourcing from China, I’ve heard these statements so many times: 1. “You need millions of naira to start.” Not necessarily. Your starting capital should depend on the product, MOQ, shipping method, and your target market. 2. “Everything in China is cheap.” China has cheap products, premium products, and everything in between. The goal isn’t to find the cheapest product. It’s to find a product you can buy at the right price and sell profitably. 3. “1688 is only for big businesses.” No. Beginners can use 1688 too. You simply need to understand how the platform works and how to work with suppliers properly. 4. “If the supplier has good reviews, they must be genuine.” Reviews alone don’t guarantee that a supplier is right for you. You still need to verify the supplier, product, pricing, MOQ and terms. 5. “The cheapest supplier is the best supplier.” 🚩 Sometimes the cheapest quote becomes the most expensive mistake. 6. “Shipping is just the amount the agent tells you.” You need to understand what you’re paying for, what is included, and how shipping affects your landed cost. 7. “You can import anything and people will buy it.” No. A product can be cheap in China and still be a terrible business decision in Nigeria. 8. “You must travel to China before you can import.” You don’t necessarily need to travel. Many businesses source remotely when they have the right systems, suppliers and logistics partners. The biggest lesson? China importation isn’t about knowing where to buy. It’s about knowing WHAT to buy, WHO to buy from, HOW MUCH to spend, and HOW to calculate your profit before you pay. If you’re thinking of starting importation, don’t start with “What can I buy cheaply?” Start with: “What can I buy at the right price and sell profitably?” 🇨🇳📦 |
The Biggest Lies People Tell About Importing From China — Things I Wish I Knew When I Started Then open with something like: I have been involved in China sourcing/importation for years, and I’ve heard some interesting things about importing from China. Some are completely false. Others are half-truths that can cost beginners serious money. Here are some of the biggest ones: 1. “You need millions of naira to start importing.” Not necessarily. Your starting capital depends heavily on the product, MOQ, shipping method and how you structure your order. 2. “Everything on 1688 is automatically cheap.” Cheap product price doesn’t always mean cheap landed cost. Shipping, agent fees, exchange rate and other costs can completely change the calculation. 3. “Chinese suppliers will always send exactly what you ordered.” Absolutely not. You still need proper supplier verification, product specifications, samples and quality control. 4. “If the supplier has many reviews, they cannot scam you.” Reviews are useful, but they shouldn’t be your only verification method. 5. “Alibaba is the only place to buy from China.” There are other platforms and sourcing channels. The right one depends on what you’re buying and the type of supplier you need. 6. “The cheapest supplier is the best supplier.” Sometimes the cheapest quote becomes the most expensive mistake. 7. “You can just copy another vendor’s product and make the same profit.” You don’t know their actual buying price, shipping cost, quantity, supplier relationship or sales volume. 8. “Importation is easy money.” It’s not. You can make good money, but there are risks—bad suppliers, poor-quality goods, shipping delays, exchange-rate changes and products that don’t sell. 9. “You must travel to China before you can import.” You can source remotely. The bigger issue is having a reliable process for finding, verifying and communicating with suppliers. 10. “If something goes wrong, there is nothing you can do.” Prevention is better than trying to recover your money after a bad transaction. Proper supplier checks and clear agreements matter before you pay. The biggest lie of all? “Importing from China is complicated.” It becomes complicated when you don’t understand the process. Once you understand sourcing, supplier verification, payment, shipping and landed cost, the process becomes much easier to navigate. For those already importing: what is the biggest China-importation mistake you’ve ever made? 👇 |
If you gave me ₦100,000 today and told me to start a small importation business, I wouldn’t rush to buy everything I see on 1688. I’d first consider: • What sells quickly • Shipping cost • Minimum order quantity • Competition • My expected profit margin The goal isn’t to buy plenty. The goal is to buy smart. What product would YOU import with ₦100,000? 👇🏽

Hello everyone, Has anyone recently tried registering or verifying an Alipay account from Nigeria and encountered issues? I’m seeing people having difficulties with identity verification, phone number verification, and linking their cards/accounts. Some people want to use Alipay for payments on platforms like 1688 and Taobao, but the verification process seems to be frustrating. If you’ve successfully verified your Alipay account recently, please share: 1. What documents did you use? 2. Did you use a Nigerian phone number? 3. Did verification work immediately or did you have to try several times? 4. Were you able to use the account to pay on 1688/Taobao? Let’s share recent experiences so others don’t keep making the same mistakes. If you’re currently experiencing the same issue, describe what you’re seeing and let’s figure it out together. Even more clickable title: “Alipay Verification Problem in Nigeria — How Are You Guys Getting Verified in 2026?” |
A lot of people want to start buying directly from China, but they get stuck at the first step — registering their 1688, Taobao or Alipay account. You register one account and it asks for verification. You try another phone number and it doesn’t work. You finally get into Taobao, then Alipay verification becomes another headache. And because the three platforms are connected within Alibaba’s ecosystem, the way you set up one account can affect how you access the others. 1688’s own terms also recognize Alipay-based login within the Alibaba ecosystem. Some common issues people face include: • Nigerian phone number not being accepted • SMS verification problems • Alipay identity verification failing • Passport/ID verification issues • 1688 refusing to complete registration • Getting stuck when trying to link Alipay • Creating multiple accounts and confusing the login details My advice: don’t keep creating random accounts when one registration fails. First identify exactly where the problem is — 1688, Taobao or Alipay — and fix that account properly. For international users, Alipay registration can be done with an international dialing code, and identity verification may require your personal details and an accepted ID such as a passport. If you’re currently having an issue registering 1688, Taobao or Alipay, tell me exactly what error you’re seeing in the comments. I’ll explain what it means and what you should try next. |
One of the biggest mistakes I see new business owners make is choosing a product because they see someone else making money from it. By the time they enter the market, everybody is already selling the same thing. Before importing any product from China, I believe you should ask: Who am I selling to? What problem does this product solve? How much can I realistically sell it for in Nigeria? And how many other sellers are already offering it? Cheap products don’t automatically mean profitable products. What product do you think is currently oversaturated in Nigeria? |
1. Buying from the wrong supplier 2. Focusing only on product price 3. Not calculating shipping and customs properly 4. Sending money without verifying the supplier 5. Importing products without knowing the Nigerian market A lot of Nigerians think the hardest part of importing from China is finding a cheap supplier. It isn’t. The real problem is knowing whether you’re actually getting a good deal before your money leaves Nigeria. |
I’ve been importing and sourcing from China for years, and I’d like to share some practical lessons for anyone interested in starting. 🇨🇳 Some important things beginners should understand include: • Finding products on 1688 • How to verify suppliers before paying • Understanding MOQ and product pricing • Payment methods and supplier communication • Shipping from China to Nigeria • Calculating your total landed cost • Common mistakes that cause importers to lose money • How to start small and manage your capital If you’re already importing from China, what has been your biggest challenge? Let’s share experiences and learn from one another. There is a difference btw buying from agent in China & also buying from suppliers in China.. Buying from agent in China ... Agent accept naira and pay yuan to your supplier in China ... Buying from suppliers You buy yuan and pay in yuan to your supplier in China ... If you wanna learn how to pay to your supplier in China Or better still if you wanna learn how to source for verified supplier in China send us a dm on Ig kennies-wholesale_naija There is a difference btw buying from suppliers and manufacturer don’t let anybody confuse you ... Suppliers buy from those that produce that particular product.. Imagine you buy from manufacturer the product will be a bit less extremely cheap ... Manufacturer are not always on 1688 getting contact of main suppliers are a bit hard ... Imagine a supplier sells a shoe or bag for 1000 naira that is you are buying 10 piece ( if you are buying from manufacturers that produce the bags the moq might be a bit on the high side but the bags will be a big on the high side.. Let me burst your bubbles 100% of the people that train you on importation give you suppliers contact and not the main manufacturer contact ... Have joined a lot of online classes over the years I did a lot of research on how to import from other countries outside Nigeria .. Manufacturers are different from suppliers .. When you have access to a manufacturers contact it’s a life changing for you .. Cos when others are selling for 100 naira you can sell for 50 Naira ... Do you remember when face Shield was made compulsory for everyone some where selling for 1500/2500 As time goes on some the price drop drastically cos some were selling for 300/400... Those that have access to the main manufacturer order from China and sold it at cheaper price... Just imagine you have access to main manufacturer not supplier You can tell them I want to produce that same product cos you are buying in higher quantities they will reduce the price and give you at discounted prices... The only way you can make it in importation business is when you buy in large quantities from these countries and ship to Nigeria If you order 10/20 items from China you can’t compare with Sumone that order 900/1000 piece of the same product to Nigeria ... The difference is 100% clear .. When you order school bags for kids from China at the rate of 1500 without shipping I that order up to 1,000 piece will buy from suppliers for lesser price ... Having contact of main manufacturer is very hard ( you buy those contact for huge amount of money ) don’t like any body bobo you and tell you they have main manufacturer contact ooh .. 90% have contact of supplier yeah but these suppliers also buy from those that produce that same item ... For more enquiries send us a dm on WhatsApp/ follow us on Ig kennies_wholesale_naija You have being thinking of starting an importation and you don’t know your way around it contact us ... |
