Onuachu, Osimhen, Simon Lead Top 5 Performers In Super Eagles Training Ahead Of Brazil Friendly
Victor Osimhen – No doubt he is in the best form of his life. He wasn’t just lively he was also deadly and scored a very good goal using his body strength to hold off his marker before finishing on the turn.
Paul Onuachu – He looks the only real threat to Osimhen in the attack. His awareness in the box is second to none and his over six foot frame gives him an edge over the defenders he was up against. The manner which he played with his back to goal was very impressive all through the session.
Moses Simon – Dribbled his way out of tight corners with ease and linked up well with Tyronne Ebuehi who played as his left fullback. His fitness looks like the best among the players as he didn’t stop running during the session.
Samuel Chukwueze – Played with lot of caution and not his usual explosive style. Passed the ball really quick and also put in a shift defensively. Almost scored with a deft chip before the end of the session.
Alex Iwobi – Hard not to mention his all action style of play. Link the defence and attack well in his role as number ten. The manner which he released the ball under pressure twice set up counter attack for the team he played for during the session. Looked very lively all through.
1. They have made contact, you can see the photo below of him with the Super Eagles in camp.
2. I have a feeling that he’s one of the 3 players that have signed to switch to Nigeria. We will know in few months when it’s complete.
Ebere trained with the Super Eagles of Nigeria during their camping exercise in England and even took part in a test game organised by Rohr among the players after the cancellation of a planned friendly game.
Unlike Ola Aina who has since gone on to establish himself as a full fledged international since that camp exercise in London, Eze wasn’t approached by Rohr since then despite his fine form for QPR in the English Championship.
England finally got wind of his potentials and offered the 20 year old a spot in their U20 team and Rohr has now confirmed in an interview with Collin Udoh that Nigeria stand a very slim chance of luring him from England now.
“So could he still be in Nigeria’s plans? “Yes,” Rohr told KweséESPN, before admitting that the road is now just that little bit tougher: “But it will be a long process before authorisation for him to play for us.”
” Akpom isn’t the only one, three others have also agreed to play for Nigeria. Infact two of them initially turned down the chance to represent us last year but they are ready this year and very soon they will have the necessary documents to enable them play for Nigeria “, a source told Owngoalnigeria.com.
” At this stage we won’t be mentioning names because of the dicey nature of these switch but in the coming days their identity will be made public as we believe by then the switch would have been made official by FIFA “, he concluded.
Eze played in a practice game which the Super Eagles players played among themselves during the camp in London with Ola Aina, Chuba Akpom and Josh Maja also taking part.
From the trio only Aina was deemed needed by the coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr as he pulled all the stop to make sure the paper works for his switch of allegiance came through on time.
At that time Eze was still working his way up the first team at QPR, hence despite impressing Rohr he wasn’t seen as an immediate priority as the Franco-German coach felt he has better options in midfield.
Before the end of last season, Eze’s name was on the lips of the fans of QPR for his impressive performance but Rohr stuck to his core of players who prosecuted the qualifiers for the Russia showpiece.
He carried his form into this season and once again Rohr snubbed the creative midfielder and only made his move for him few days before his call up to the England U20 was made official.
Reports gathered by Owngoalnigeria.com has it that he told the contact of the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) who spoke with him of his plans to honour the call up to the U20 of England.
Since making his debut, Eze is now focused on progressing through the various ranks of the national team of England and that alone should bother Nigeria because they had him in their hands but surprisingly let him slip away.
Thank you for writing “lose” and not “loose” like most Nigerians do.
Danielnino00: If we lose,I won't complain... I'm more interested in our performance than the scoreline. .. I want Rohr to be more brave in his approach against stronger opposition . like against Ukraine we played without fear and could have won if not for some mistakes here and there. ..
I don't expect Brazil to beat us easily as long as we don't play them with fear...
I was gonna reply him with the exact same thing you wrote. If their government were as useless as ours, then those private entities will not blossom at the same level.
Ar3mis: Those private entities are based in France...so it's still a French investment
At least the French government created the structure that enables those clubs to function..
We too must reap the rewards of our Naija people making the sacrifice to travel overseas and born pikin.
Yes it’s best we invest in infrastructures back home and develop the game, but when that is not ready, we must reap the rewards whichever way it comes as long as it’s legal legal.
Ar3mis: It's not like France came to Africa to carry players to their national team.. Those guys were born and breed in France and are a product of the French football system..France simply reaped the reward for their investment on those players... We on the other hand are waiting to reap the reward of the investment of other countries just because we feel entitled to it...
And if we don’t get our house in order, there will be a day that they’re 100% of our team. We have so many skillful Nigerian players coming up. Other countries cannot take them all from us.
If we have 10 Nigerian top strikers born in England, we will surely get at least 30% of them to represent us. So we need to just keep producing more of them.
The day we have a lot of players in top clubs, then we will get more players choosing Nigeria, because they can’t all play for foreign countries.
The day will come when there will be so many more Nigerians doing it big.
TheSuperNerd: But when we called up Kelechi Nwakali and Victor Osimhen after their U-17 exploits just as a way of fast-tracking them, you heard the nonsense cries didn't you? Why must the foreign borns be given this special treatment you suggest without anyone willing to cry out while we cry out when trying to encourage our special underage talents who shone at the age grades? Osimhen's call was bashed and condemned left, right and center when Rohr called him up just to begin integration of the lad because he saw he was special. Now we are reaping the benefits.
If Osimhen was foreign born, would his call have been bashed? And if as a foreign born, playing so well for Lille now, what would be the story today? That we should have capped him then, but now we have to contend with England or France for his allegiance. Thanks goodness that is not the case.
Look Sir Royalty. Nigeria have been approaching some of these lads and many of them are non-committal. These lads should stop making it seem like it is the countries making the decisions for them. It is also their decisions and their lives. Let those that want to play for England or Nigeria or whatever country declare it from the onset and stick to it and not wait till their careers probably hit the heights of Pele where they now start singing the tune of England calling them up first.
Are you saying that Nigeria is not deserving of a player doing well in Manchester Utd or Manchester City or Arsenal or Chelsea? So na only QPR players we want abi? Only West Brom or Rotherham players are good enough for the Super Eagles and would choose the Super Eagles.
If that is the case, then we don't want such snake-like personalities near our GWG. Players who would only choose Nigeria if they are only at a not-so-high level career wise. My question to them is this... Would they maintain same choice if they are getting the business done at a high level and making the headlines?
I think we should sort out where their allegiance lie from the onset first of all and stop giving ourselves more opportunities to get slapped in the face as seen in the case of Tomori and Abraham. See Tosin Adarabioyo now... Famzing the GWG jersey and trying to get Nigeria's attention with his funny antics. Would he be doing so if he was still balling at Man City??
We need the really committed ones. Most of them are just considering us only because their careers aren't so great and they feel the Super Eagles is the place to be when you are at Ipswich town while England is the place to be when at Chelsea.
Is Nigeria not worthy of a Chelsea player? That is what we should address abeg and not inviting every dick and harry.
I was thinking the same thing. What Super Eagles need are players that provide assist. Our strikers can score, but they need good players to supply the balls.
If Chukwueze tried to assist more, we could have scored 4 goals against Ukraine in the last friendly.
Our first goal in that match came because Iwobi cut the ball back instead of trying to score on his own.
chrisooblog: shout to my boy Osimhen. really gladdens my heart seeing him perform so well. what makes me especially happy isn't just his goal scoring form but his assists stats. what that tells me is that he's a team player who even if is not having a good day in front of goal will lay of chances for his team mates to put away. it's like he has started to improve on his weaknesses. hold up play is getting better the assist for loic remy highlighted that perfectly. his club coach has also acknowledged he's improving with every training session. Victor should continue to stay humble and learn his craft. next target for him is to break his away goal duck.
SniperSmurf: I stand corrected. Brazil will thrash Nigeria.
On paper you are right. But I hope that our young boys can change things. If our players can be unselfish and provide assist, I think we can score lots of goals too.
SniperSmurf: Brazil is not as strong and skillful as they used to be in football. That being said, Brazil will win Nigeria!
Brazil cannot win Nigeria, because we are not the reward. Beat is a more appropriate word to use, not win. You win a game, you win a trophy, you win a reward. You do not win your opponent. You beat your opponent.
What's the difference between England and Nigerian national teams?
He even has better opportunities with Super Eagles..at least final four at Afcon is almost guaranteed. World cup shirt is sure for him. England Team are users
I've been watching tournaments for a while now, and I'm yet to see England winning any medals
Ekaka1: Like our current 17 world ranking over Germany , Canada and our old tormentor Angola
That was just in the tournament. The new ranking has us at 23. Germany and Canada are still ahead of us, but we should pass them very soon. Soon we will be in the top 10 in the world.
TheSuperNerd: What you quoted clearly says Giannis Tops the list. Read it again.
And I think what Sports Illustrated mean by African born is those players with distinct African ties whether born in Africa or abroad. I believe they refer to being born to an African parent.
Why you no put Giannis under the African bloodies you listed is the point. Also I’m sure Sports Illustrated did not use African-born to describe Aminu Al-Farouk. If they did, please post a link.
legaxi: Meanwhile D'Tigers are 7th in the world with little or no recognition from the government. We really should pay more attention to Basketballers in this country.
That was just the power rankings that was put out right before the FIBA World Cup tournament.
Also Basketballer is not a real word. It’s Naija made. The correct thing to say is basketball player.
kheny12: Nigga why are you lieing. The latest FIBA rankings also came out today with Nigeria ranked no 1in Africa and 23 in the world moving ten places up.
He’s confused by the power rankings that was put out right before the FIBA World Cup tournament.
