Dera12345 please check your mail.

I just did but sorry I don't see any message content. How can I assist you?

Hi guys, I am here again to offer help to discerning new students planning a transition to Canada. I just got off the phone with a female MSc student who is Brock University-bound. I have been able to connect her to a decent property where she will be staying for the duration of her studies. If you are a master's or phd student heading to Brock, but stuck with your transition plans, send me an email. To get a response from me, be sure to introduce yourself and add a brief note about your program of studies. I want to be clear that I will not be responding to anonymous emails.

There is a gentleman on this page who is also seeking help about doctoral studies at Queens or U of Toronto. You can also do same. And be advised that I am a Ghanaian, resident in Canada. My purpose on this page is to help those who need it the most. Cheers!

Travelling Tip #2: PORT OF ENTRY(POE) ISSUES, DEPORTATION AND THE PROMISE LAND

Receiving your study permit approval from the CIC and finally preparing to arrive in Canada ought to be the most memorable experience in the life of a student. Often at times, the experiences are unforgettably disastrous for some people. I will share some experience gathered from friends on this topic and give a layman's advice on the best way to deal with it. If anyone ever saw Tom Hank's 2004 movie ' The Terminal" you may have an idea of how immigration checks at the port of arrival into a developed country. How will you feel if after a 20hrs long flight, you see your PROMISE land (Canada) but fail to enter ? How does deportation scare anyone? The answers are not far-fetched. A Port Of Entry( POE) is the legal entry point into a country (in this context your arriving airport where the immigration officers interrogate your documents before issuing you your study permit/work permit. Often, at times, students for some reasons best know to them choose the wrong flight routes or arrival destination airports. Lets look at this scenario, A student who is due to school in a university in Abuja books a flight with MM1 as his final destination. Any immigration officer will be suspicious. Why not arrival in Abuja but Lagos? why dont you have any connecting flight? An even better example is this. A student heading to a school in Halifax, Novas Scotia in the far Northern parts of Canada made Pearson Intl Airport In Ontario (way South) his final destination..Such a student has left himself opened to be devoured. Why not a connecting flight to Halifax, but Pearson in Toronto? What are your reasons? The stammering begins and the emotional and psychological demeanor is obviously exposing at this point. At this point, your fate is in the hands of the officer and your God. If your answers are unconvincing as was in the case of a lady yesterday in Toronto, then deportation is the result. You are at the border of Canaan, but cannot enter. Oya back to Lagos.

What you must know is the following:

1.Your letter approving your study permit you received in Nigeria from the CIC is not an authorization of AUTOMATIC entry into Canada
2. You have not gotten your study permit until it is issued to you by the immigration officer at the airport in Canada. What you carried all this while was a mere introductory letter and a visa to allow you to be processed for entry into Canada
3. If your final arriving destination is unreasonably far from your school or province you are likely to be interrogated, and worse case scenario deported.
4. Thousands of people arrival in Canada by the minute. Staying in an immigration queue at the airport awaiting your immigration process can be the most nerving moment in your travel tale. You are in a queue with arabs, aisans and other races. While some of these students enjoy the comapanionship of their parents or friends, you are rather alone by yourself in the queue intimidated by the mere look at how the officers attend and scrutinize those students before them. Your emotional, psychological and articulation balance will all be shaped by this bizarre atmosphere. Remember that the immigration officers have been psychologically trained to detect misinformation, lies..etc in your communication and documentation. Be well composed when in the queue and before the officer..Be consistent and straight forward in your answering.

Even though some students from Nigeria may have intentions of not really attendning the school upon arrival or have other agendas, You must not not choose the wrong destination points for final arrival. If your School is in Newfoundland, I beg pls use a connecting flight to get there...But wait? what if i have not much funds and I decided to stop over in say Toronto Or Montreal in Quebec and pick a bus to my school which is few hours drive? well, you must be ready to answer this concisely to the officer when he pokes such questions at you. If possible show him/her proof that you already booked a bus or car for that transit.. I know two guys of friends of mine who were painfully deported upon arriving in Pearson, Toronto (instead of Edmonton, Alberta) and Montreal, Quebec (instead of St. Johns, Newfoundland). Na your groundnut u dey go harvest for Montreal or Toronto? Maybe u dey go spend time with your long time borobor abi?

I HOPE THIS HELPS. HAVE FUN

Travel Tip #1:
Do not put important documents, money and laptop in your main luggage. our might not be guaranteed that it will not be stolen from the airport in Nigeria after you have checked-in. Keep relevant documents such as passport, offer letter, proof of payment receipt or scholarship documents in your hand luggage. These documents will come handy when you touch down and head to join the immigration queue to obtain your study and work permit. There are instances where students kept valuables in main luggage and had them missing. 40-60min as you approach your destination( say the Pearson Airport in Toronto or Montreal) you will be asked by the air hostess to fill a declaration form. On this form you must provide the following information: Biodata, address you lived in in Nigeria, Contact number of someone home, address you will be staying in Canada, whether you have funds on you to declare or not, whether you are carrying any food item in your main luggage or not. For some of us, the smartest answer to give them is that you carry no funds on you( cos the moment you declare you do carry you must disclose the amount and go througha long process of clearance) . Same with food items. you will be asked to disclose..even if u carried stork fish or indomie i beg make unna no disclose am. It complicates things.

Hi Kaygreen,

Nice to connect. I am glad you are far advanced with your application. I hope you get the visa asap. On accommodation, I will suggest that you rent an apartment of-campus as it is cheaper than staying in student housing on-campus. Depending in which city or region within Ontario you stay, you are like to pay between $400-500 per month in rent. If you secure your visa and and your air ticket and you need my help, I can huk you up directly with a landlord in an area close to your school for accommodation arrangement. You wont have to pay 1kobo until you move into the house upon arrival. I hope this information helps. All the best.

@ Etunnu: that is so not true and you know it. I have only one account in Kris99. Any other name is not mine. I could show you a link to confirm my identity here in Canada on my University's website. You could even see pictures of me on the website winning awards. I am a graduate with MA in Political Science. I was only motivated to join this page because a fellow Nigerian girl at Niagara college went through hell from Pearson Intl Airport when she arrived. I took it upon myself to help other students to smoothly transition into Canada in terms of airport pick ups and accomodation. If you have any dubious intentions for pulling a lie that I operate Kriss77, I propose that the administrators of this page to investigate and take me off asap. I know how dubious we Africans can be and I have been cautioned about rules of engagement on this page.

@Habeeb: it should be pretty easy to transfer from the states to Canada into an undergraduate program American education is highly reputed by Canada and vice versa so it shouldn't be a challenge for you. Once you can identify a program of choice here in Canada and a school you should be able to do a transfer. Start making choices on which school, program or province you want to move to. Most importantly, you should have the funds to pay the fees as well.

On the applicant facing second visa denial (Inkblood), kindly see whether your documentation and financial stuff were excellent. The least doubt you allow the CIC you will be refused. Did you do the tuition payment before aapplying or it was not a condition by the school? Did your parents provide a strong financial sponsorship documents in support? Have you been previously refused visa by other embassies? Lots of questions should be answered in your evaluation. Most importantly you should read in detail the specific reason the CIC gave you for refusing the visa.

Greetings from Toronto to you all incoming and prospective students. ON how to get cheaper air tickets, Isuggest you do book it through credible websites or agencies. You could always check and compare prices from expedia.com and make a choice. I am pretty sure the VAC/IOM which process your applicants also has extremely discounted air ticket rates for Canada-bound students . Dubious individuals posing as ticket agents may inflate the rates or abscond with your money. Be cautious.

On student jobs here in Canada, as one of the colleagues said above it is always open to chances, the season and the aggressiveness of the student. I was a masters student in Political science and had a guaranteed job as Teaching and Research Assistant for 1yr. I was making $32/hr

What you must know is that most student visas come with limited number of on/off-campus hours of work. In most cases CIC forbids you from working more than 20hrs per week so long as you are a full time student. What most aggressive students do is to do what is called working under carpet. it means you work alright but must make sure your company doesnt pay in your name so it does not reflect in the database of the government. There are ways around that sha. Summer (May-Aug) is the best time to land multiple jobs in populated provinces like Ontario. Be careful not to overwork and have your academic grades sink. The best way to get a job here is to sign up with Temporal recruitment agencies, register with job search websites or rely on referrals of other students who are already established here. You could make btn $CAD 11.35-20 depending on the type of job. I hope this helps.
