but Nigeria today 2023 still has no sidewalks, pedestrians competing with cars on the road, open gutters everywhere, overgrown grass and weeds on the side of roads...(pic 2).
Should I cry? I'm feeling emotional.
Like is there something wrong with us? It is because the majority know no better, and the politicians take advantage of their ignorance. For most Nigerians, a road is a 'good road' so long as it is tarred. Everything else - sidewalks, covered drains, street lights - are seen as luxuries. Only fit for 'posh areas'. The politicians know this, so they don't bother. They don't walk the streets, so if just a tarred road is good by the citizenry, it's good by them also. What's needed is a federal legislation making it mandatory for all streets to have sidewalks and covered drains. Then it will happen as a matter of course. |

Typical thoughtless Nigerian reasoning.
Saudi sheikhs are so corrupt that corruption is not even a crime among the ruling elite there. They don't bother amassing personal wealth because the national treasury is their personal account. It will be like withdrawing money from one of your accounts and putting it in another. No need.
They own the most luxurious mansions in Beverly Hills and Billionaires Row in London, New York, Paris et al.
THE ONLY REASON they have not all been rounded up and shot by the people of Saudi Arabia is that at a tiny 30 million population, with oil and gas deposits and daily exports nearly FOUR TIMES THE SIZE of 220 million - strong Nigeria's, meaning that there is MORE THAN ENOUGH MONEY to develop the entire country and give the majority a high living standard, even while still being massively corrupt and looting billions of dollars MONTHLY.
You need to go on YouTube and check out the lifestyle of those Saudi oil sheikhs.
Nigerian politicians are LEARNERS when it comes to corruption, compared to Saudi oil sheikhs.
SCHOOLBOYS.The entire money Nigerian politicians steal in one year is less than the amount an average SAUDI OIL SHEIKH OR PRINCE wires to his Swiss account in a single major transaction. |

FreeStuffsNG: The coupists will learn that there's a difference between running an illegitimate coup and running a legislative government. They got power by gun barrel but have no legitimacy. Without one shot fired, they are already in tatters. The one in Mali is one week one coup while ISIL is daily taking over communities in Northern Mali. Very incorrigible people.
If you want power and you are truly accepted by your people, remove uniform and go test your popularity among your people instead of allowing yourself to be jinxed by same set of bad luck hate-filled bigots in Nigeria who jinxed anyone or any organisation they support from Donald Trump to Alhaji Atiku to Mr Peter Obi etc. Dude, I heard the so called elected President of Niger was selling their uranium to France for less than 2% of international market prices. FOR THAT, YOU NEED A MILITARY COUP IMMEDIATELY. And anyone imposing sanctions on them knowing the treasonous conduct of their civilian president, is EVIL. |
Politics › Re: German Chancellor Olaf Scholz Visits Yoruba Cultural Centre In Lagos by Kushites: 7:29pm On Oct 31, 2023 |
aQUINandmore: As someone from Edo, I find myself drawn to the Yoruba culture of Nigeria. It's not just a fascination; it's a deep appreciation and love that I hold for what I consider to be the most beautiful culture in Africa. It might seem unusual for me to have such an affinity for a culture outside of my own, but there's something truly special about the Yoruba heritage that captivates my heart.
The Yoruba culture is a tapestry of history, a masterpiece of traditions that have withstood the test of time. It's like a living museum of Africa's past, present, and future. I can't help but be entranced by its richness and depth.
What stands out most is the way Yoruba culture weaves together a complex fabric of language, spirituality, art, and community. The Yoruba language is like a dance, with its melodious flow and expressive words that seem to carry stories within each syllable. It's a language that can paint a picture with its very pronunciation.
Their spiritual beliefs are equally captivating. The Yoruba pantheon of gods, the Orisha, is a fascinating blend of mythology and reverence. The intricate rituals, divinations, and ceremonies that honor these deities are nothing short of mesmerizing. I admire the profound connection they maintain with their ancestors, believing that the spirits continue to guide and protect them.
Yoruba artistry is a realm of wonder. The Adire and Aso-oke textiles are not merely fabrics; they are works of art. Each pattern and motif tells a story, preserving their history and heritage in threads. The intricate beadwork, the stunning masks, and the sculptures are a testament to the incredible talent and creativity of the Yoruba people.
Music and dance are like the heartbeats of the Yoruba culture. The talking drums, the rhythms of Sango, and the energy of Ogun's dance, all come together to create a unique and exhilarating symphony. Their festivals, like the Eyo and Osun, are a spectacle of color and joy, a testament to the celebratory spirit that runs through their veins.
What's most striking is the strong sense of community and family in the Yoruba culture. I, from Edo, can't help but appreciate the way they embrace one another, the warmth in their interactions, and the strength of their bonds. They place great importance on names, known as "Oruko," and I admire how they cherish their ancestors and carry their legacies forward through generations.
It's worth noting that my love for Yoruba culture does not diminish my love for my own Edo heritage. Rather, it serves as a testament to the beauty of diversity in Nigeria. We are a tapestry of cultures, each offering something unique and beautiful. The Yoruba culture, in all its magnificence, adds vibrancy to the mosaic of our nation.
So, as someone from Edo with a deep admiration for the Yoruba culture, I can't help but celebrate their traditions and their profound impact on Nigeria and Africa as a whole. The Yoruba culture, with its language, spirituality, art, and sense of community, is a treasure that enriches us all. I am Igbo and I feel the same way. Yorubas are excellent in the way they elevate their culture and heritage. Even in the Americas and the Caribbean, Brazil, Cuba etc, it is primarily the Yoruba religion that has survived out of all the religions of the enslaved African people in those places. |

Albertone: Not stepping your foot in a foreign soil before isn't an excuse for this colossal ignorance you just displayed now.
Check the global ranking of Harvard and Oxford, compare it with the global ranking of Unilag and UNN. You think they use outdated educational systems like us or their lecturers tell them "A is for God, B is for me, C is for brilliant students"?
Secondly, it's only in Africa that people get employed based on nepotism and favoritism. Google "target schools" and you'll see that there are schools where employers go to recruit fresh graduates irrespective of race, ethnicity or whatever background. Except you don't posses the skills or papers required.
The whites too get underemployed in their countries. Some of them are even jobless while Indians, Pakistanis, Nigerians, etc have their hands full with jobs.
Again, even the whites too take on demeaning jobs till they get something better. So, it is not a function of being a Nigerian student in a foreign land. You talk so much crap. No, it is not “only in Africa” that people are hired based on their connections. It happens in every blasted continent and country, including the UK. Plus this demeaning way you speak of UNILAG and UNN is symptomatic of great ignorance and inferiority complex on your part. Their teaching methods, which you know absolutely nothing about, are not “outdated”, whatever on Earth that means. And their faculties are better equipped than your prejudice leads you to imagine. |

Cmeo: Now tell me why naira won't lose value and dollar gains in value if we could be using or needing almost $2m everyday to pay school fees on our children to school abroad whereas the same service is available here.
Apart from needing over $1m weekly to import hair attachment only not to talk of food items, etc. Our middle class craving for foreign things are majorly part of the problem of Nigeria.
The moment the country (Nigeria) bettered the life of some people and made them middle-class that can save up to 10milion naira, they ditch the nation and forget the nation that made them and face the nation that colonize them. This life is funny Highly intelligent post. I always tell people that if WE THE PEOPLE did the right thing, we wouldn’t even notice if there’s corruption or not, because there will be money everywhere. Imagine if all the billions of naira Nigerian women spend every year on IMPORTED BRAZILIAN HAIR, was spent instead on paying traditional hair stylists to make creative braids or plaits? That alone will create a minimum 5 million new jobs, and raise the value of the naira by no mean percentage. Then imagine when we now move into other areas like clothing, footwear, handbags etc. If we decide today that we only want to buy those stuff IF THEY ARE MADE IN NIGERIA, guess what happens? Demand for skilled personnel in making those things shoots up astronomically! Everywhere you will see job postings advertising job openings! As this is happening, naira will be rising in value! |
