Why won’t there be discrimination? If there is truly no difference between Polytechnic and University education, then why are the admission standards different in the first place? Why are the curricula, training structure, and academic expectations not the same? What are the cut-off marks for admission into Universities compared to Polytechnics? Imagine someone who gained admission into a University with a cut-off mark of 280 to study Engineering and spent 5-6 rigorous years earning a degree under highly comprehensive academic standards, being taught by Professors, Senior Lecturers, Researchers, and other seasoned professionals. University education is structured to be broader, deeper, and more research-oriented, with stronger emphasis on theory, innovation, and advanced academic exposure. Now compare that with someone who gained admission into a Polytechnic with 180 for ND, did one year IT (which, in many cases, is not even taken seriously), and then spent another two years for HND under Engineering academic structure and standard. Can we honestly say both followed the same academic pathway or were subjected to the same admission requirements, educational quality, lecturer exposure, and training intensity? This is not necessarily to insult Polytechnics or HND holders, because Polytechnics were originally designed to focus more on technical and practical training. However, the reality is that the educational systems were built differently from the beginning, and society, employers, and even government policies have treated them differently for years. So, pretending discrimination does not exist is simply ignoring reality. The real question is not whether discrimination exists, but whether it should continue despite the structural differences between both systems. Many polytechnic students did not originally choose the polytechnic path willingly. In many cases, they settled for it because they were unable to meet the admission requirements for universities. That is also one of the reasons why conversion programmes exist - to bridge the academic gap and place them on a level comparable to university graduates. In practice, when direct admission into postgraduate programmes such as Master's degrees is granted without such academic alignment, many polytechnic graduates struggle initially because the academic structure, training, and depth of exposure are often different from that of the university system. I KNOW THIS FOR A FACT AS AN EDUCATIONIST. |
Okoroemekah:Did you actually read the full write-up? The family clearly stated that they searched extensively for him. They went to police stations within and outside the state, reported him missing, and even made radio announcements before eventually giving up and assuming he had been killed. If the system were not so broken and inhumane, how does a juvenile get picked up, processed through police custody and court, then remanded in prison without any proper effort to identify him or trace his family FOR 18 YEARS!!!? His family was actively searching for him all that time. The real question is: why didn't the police or the authorities make any serious attempt to connect both sides? |
This is evil The system that did this is extremely broken and evil. If the system were not so broken and inhumane, how does a juvenile get picked up, processed through police custody and court, then remanded in prison without any proper effort to identify him or trace his family FOR 18 YEARS!!!? |

All these estates and so-called luxury residential setups… One needs to be very careful so they don’t turn you into their ATM, tenant, and servant in the name of outrageous service charges. Some people are paying millions yearly for service charges, yet still dealing with poor electricity, bad roads, security issues, water problems, and endless rules. In some places, after buying your own land or house, you still feel like you’re renting from the estate management. A lot of homeowners and landowners in Nigeria are quietly being exploited through inflated and poorly justified charges. Before buying into any estate, ask serious questions: • What exactly are the service charges covering? • Who audits the accounts? • Can charges increase arbitrarily? • What rights do homeowners actually have? Don’t get carried away by fine gates, fancy names, and uniformed security men. Read every document carefully and understand the long-term financial obligations before committing. |
This Mbeki has not changed much... President when South Africa still get sense and the people had not become xenophobics. |
There's absolutely nothing difficult or complicated about traveling in this information age. Most things can be done personally with the right information and proper research. Be careful of people parading themselves as travel agents just to exploit and scam unsuspecting individuals. Verify everything, cross-check information from official sources, and avoid handing over your money or documents to unverified and so-called agents. A lot of travel processes today are very easy and straightforward if you take the time to learn them. |
