Inside LASU & UNILAG’s Crazy Accommodation Fees: How Lagos Students Are Being Priced Out of Education University education in Lagos is fast becoming a luxury, not because of tuition fees alone, but due to outrageous accommodation costs at the state’s two biggest public universities — University of Lagos (UNILAG) and Lagos State University (LASU). For many average Lagos families, the dream of sending their children to public universities is slipping away as hostel fees soar to levels that rival — and sometimes exceed — private house rents. Eyes Of Lagos reports, At LASU, students are forced to choose between high costs and unhealthy living conditions. The school operates old and new hostel blocks, both shockingly expensive: Old hostels: ₦282,500 per student (₦1.13 million per room, four students) New hostels: ₦352,500 per student (₦1.41 million per room) This is in Ojo, where a room apartment outside campus still rents for ₦80,000–₦100,000 yearly. Yet, students say the hostels don’t justify the cost. “The water is coloured and oily. Sometimes it smells,” a 200-level student said. “Water is supposed to be colourless, odourless and tasteless.” In the old hostels, the situation is worse: Dirty, overflowing toilets Constant stench Scarce water Unstable electricity A student in Adenike Boho Hostel described life there as “hellish.” Because hostel spaces can only accommodate less than 50% of students, many are forced off-campus — exposing them to insecurity, rising rents, and transport stress. Unsurprisingly, rents around Ojo have exploded: Room self-contained apartments now cost ₦380,000–₦420,000, up from ₦150,000. Parents are groaning. Students are considering dropping out At UNILAG, the accommodation crisis is more severe and more chaotic. Privately run hostels: Up to ₦700,000 per student Four students per room = ₦2.8 million per room yearly Ironically, school-owned hostels are cheap (₦80,000) — but: They are grossly inadequate Many are dilapidated and uninhabitable Hostel balloting has reportedly been discontinued As a result, students: Sleep on floors Squat with friends Sleep in corridors and open spaces Commute long distances daily A 200-level student said: “I spend about ₦5,000 daily on transport. I can only come to school twice a week. This will affect me academically.” A 400-level Chemistry student added: “I slept on the floor in my first and second years. The environment was not conducive at all.” Another student now commutes from Mowe — over 40km away — because campus housing is either unavailable or unaffordable. Education or Survival? Students Are Trapped The consequences are clear: Missed lectures Poor academic performance Limited access to libraries and labs Rising dropout fears Students are now calling on: University authorities Lagos State Government Relevant education agencies to urgently expand hostel capacity, renovate existing facilities, regulate fees, and provide affordable alternatives. Many warn that the next academic session could be a disaster if nothing changes. For now, Lagos students are left with a painful question: Is public university education still truly “public” — or only for those who can afford to survive it? https://eyesoflagos.com/2026/01/30/inside-lasu-unilags-crazy-accommodation-fees-how-lagos-students-are-being-priced-out-of-education/ cc: Mynd44 , Nlfpmod , Seun

Nollywood actress Osas Ighodaro has recounted a deeply painful experience from her past, revealing how a former lover cheated on her and had her escorted out of his house while she was living in the United States. The actress made the disclosure during a recent appearance on the Lone Wolf podcast, describing the incident as one of the most devastating moments of her life. Eyes Of Lagos reports, According to Osas, the incident occurred shortly after she purchased a new car and decided to drive to Baltimore to surprise her then-boyfriend, whom she believed she would spend the rest of her life with. She said she waited at his door for several minutes before he eventually opened it, reacting coldly to the unexpected visit and questioning why she had not informed him beforehand. Her concern deepened when she attempted to enter his room and discovered that the door was locked. Osas recounted that when she questioned him, he admitted that another woman was inside the room. She said it later became clear that the woman was pregnant. The situation reportedly escalated after she confronted him, leading to the man calling security personnel at the apartment complex to escort her out of the house. According to the actress, he claimed he was acting to prevent her from getting into trouble for confronting a pregnant woman. “My whole world collapsed,” Osas said, describing the emotional pain as overwhelming. She noted that she had always loved deeply and given her all in relationships, which made the betrayal particularly painful. Reflecting on the incident, Osas said she later realised it was not just a loss but a turning point in her life. She revealed that plans were already in motion for her to relocate permanently to Baltimore at the time, a move she later felt would have restricted her ambitions. According to her, her dreams had always been global, and being surrounded by creatives in New York was crucial for her personal and professional growth, rather than settling into what she described as a “normal life.” “Eventually, I saw it as a blessing,” she said, explaining that although the experience shattered her emotionally, it redirected her toward a path aligned with her purpose. Osas Ighodaro later married actor Gbenro Ajibade in 2015 after they met on the set of the popular television series Tinsel. The marriage ended in divorce in 2019, and the former couple share a daughter, Azariah. https://eyesoflagos.com/2026/01/30/osas-ighodaro-ex-lover-kicked-me-out/ cc: Mynd44 , Nlfpmod , Seun

The Founder of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministry, Dr Chris Okafor, has called on the Federal Government to strengthen regulation of Nigeria’s cyberspace, warning that unregulated online content is increasingly being used to damage the reputations of innocent citizens. Okafor spoke in Lagos on Thursday while reacting to allegations made against him by Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, which he described as false, malicious and driven by misinformation amplified on social media. Eyes Of Lagos reports, The controversy began in November 2025 after news emerged that Pastor Okafor was set to remarry. Following the development, Ogala accused the cleric of having a long-term relationship with her and allegedly reneging on a promise to marry her. She further made serious allegations, including claims linking the pastor to the death of her brother and other criminal acts. The accusations gained widespread traction online, with several bloggers and influencers amplifying the claims. Addressing journalists at a news conference, Okafor denied all the allegations and described them as baseless fabrications, insisting that he had never met the actress before the controversy. He lamented what he described as cyberbullying and trial by social media, accusing some bloggers and influencers of prioritising traffic and engagement over truth and verification. “All these started after my intention to remarry was leaked by our wedding planner. From there, all hell broke loose and everyone tried to cash in on it,” Okafor said. He alleged that many online platforms published damaging claims without seeking his side of the story or demanding evidence from the accuser. The cleric urged authorities, particularly cybercrime units, to intensify efforts at tracking online offences and holding offenders accountable. “Many Nigerians have suffered and are still suffering from lies spread online. Most times, those responsible walk free after destroying people’s images,” he said. He questioned what he described as inconsistencies in the allegations, stating that the same person accusing him of murder was also claiming emotional betrayal. “How could someone say I killed her brother and still claim I wanted to marry her? There are many unanswered questions,” he added. Okafor also addressed allegations involving his former wife, describing them as recycled claims that were never raised during their divorce proceedings in 2014 at an Ikeja court. According to him, the marriage was dissolved on grounds of irreconcilable differences, including infidelity and lack of affection, and he was granted custody of the children. He said no allegation of abuse was presented during the court process. The pastor expressed concern over the broader implications of unchecked online allegations. “If as a pastor I can survive these lies, what happens to the average Nigerian with no platform or voice?” he asked. Okafor reassured members of his church and the public that the truth would eventually emerge, insisting that he had never been arrested or convicted of any crime. “In my 55 years on earth, I have never been arrested for any offence. It is sad how far people can go to destroy another person,” he said. https://eyesoflagos.com/2026/01/30/doris-ogala-pastor-chris-okafor-blasts-bloggers/ cc: Mynd44 , Nlfpmod , Seun

The Conference of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) has strongly criticised Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, over his administration’s proposal to establish a state-owned airline, describing the initiative as wasteful, ill-timed and anti-people. The group warned that it may approach the courts if the Edo State Government proceeds with what it termed a “white elephant project” amid pressing socio-economic challenges in the state. Eyes Of Lagos reports, In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Regional President of CRPP, Dr. Samson Isibor, said the organisation was appalled by the plan, questioning how the state intends to fund such a capital-intensive venture. Isibor accused the Okpebholo administration of prioritising what he described as self-adulatory projects at the expense of critical sectors affecting the daily lives of Edo residents. “CRPP is not happy with the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, prioritising projects that do not reflect the needs of the people,” the statement read. The CRPP further faulted the proposed airline project, reportedly tagged Edo Air, arguing that it has no direct impact on the survival or welfare of ordinary Edo citizens. According to the group, the state is grappling with dilapidated roads, rising insecurity, poverty and unemployment, particularly in rural communities where access roads are said to be almost non-existent. “Hundreds of state and federal roads are begging for rehabilitation, especially in rural areas where many communities have been completely cut off,” Isibor said. He added that many farmers are unable to transport their produce to urban markets due to poor road infrastructure, while insecurity continues to worsen as unemployment among youths remains high. CRPP also raised concerns about the cost implications of establishing an airline, questioning whether such an investment is economically viable for the state. “How much does it cost to acquire an aircraft such as a Boeing 707?” Isibor queried. “What happened to the over ₦100 billion loan approval by the rubber-stamp House of Assembly? Is it productive to establish an airline that could cost the state over ₦5 trillion?” The group insisted that the governor should clearly outline tangible benefits Edo residents have gained since he assumed office. CRPP concluded by urging the state government to immediately abandon the airline project and redirect resources toward infrastructure development, job creation, and security. The group warned that failure to heed its call could result in legal action to halt what it described as reckless public spending. As of the time of filing this report, the Edo State Government has not responded to the CRPP’s allegations. https://eyesoflagos.com/2026/01/28/crpp-slams-okpebholo-edo-airline-project-lawsuit/ cc: Mynd44 , Nlfpmod , Seun

Former senator and journalist Babafemi Ojudu has criticised ongoing comparisons between contemporary Nigerian musicians and late Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, describing such parallels as misguided, superficial, and historically inaccurate. Eyes Of Lagos reports, Ojudu’s comments come amid the recent public feud involving Wizkid and Seun Kuti, Fela’s son, which has reignited debates over artistic greatness, cultural legacy, and historical impact within Nigeria’s music industry. Writing on his Facebook page, Ojudu described Fela as far more than a musician, portraying him as a movement, a revolution, and the moral conscience of a nation who fearlessly confronted military dictatorships and systemic oppression in Nigeria. According to the former lawmaker, Fela’s legacy cannot be measured by chart success or global fame alone. He recalled that the Afrobeat icon endured over 200 arrests, imprisonment, torture, and exile in his relentless resistance against injustice, corruption, and state violence. Ojudu noted that Fela’s music gave birth to Afrobeat, a genre now studied in universities worldwide, sampled by global superstars, and performed on some of the world’s biggest stages. “Is it true that a Nigerian youngster said he is greater than Fela? I sincerely hope he was misquoted,” Ojudu wrote. “Even if he were to live ten lifetimes, his art and his life could not measure up to Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.” He further highlighted Fela’s role as a fearless dissenter, recalling how the musician stood alone against military rule, using music as a weapon against oppression despite repeated arrests and brutal repression. Ojudu referenced the destruction of the Kalakuta Republic, the death of Fela’s mother at the hands of state forces, and the repeated assaults he suffered from security agencies, stressing that none of these ordeals broke his spirit or silenced his voice. “For any young person—musician or not—to compare himself to Fela, he must first walk the corridors of Nigerian jailhouses, endure exile, and still return with his creative spirit intact,” he added. The former senator also praised Fela’s musical brilliance, describing him as a multi-instrumentalist, composer, bandleader, and cultural theorist who fused jazz, highlife, funk, Yoruba rhythms, and political poetry into a sound that remains timeless and unmatched. Ojudu’s remarks have since sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians weighing in on the ongoing debate over legacy, activism, and what true greatness in music represents. https://eyesoflagos.com/2026/01/22/ojudu-blasts-wizkid-fela-comparisons/ cc: Mynd44 , Nlfpmod , Seun

Eyes Of Lagos reports, The blogger is facing a six-count criminal charge at the Federal High Court, Abeokuta, over allegations of publishing false accusations against the Ogun State Government and cyberbullying the state governor, Dapo Abiodun. The Ogun State Police Command, in a statement by its spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi, revealed that instead of appearing for police inquiries, Adetoun, through her lawyer, submitted a letter accompanied by a medical report, claiming she was medically indisposed. “The medical report detailed several health challenges allegedly suffered by Adetoun and efforts to stabilise her. The Lagos State Police Command has explained its decision to temporarily suspend the investigation into allegations of sexual assault, rape, and related offences levelled against Pastor Chris Okafor, founder of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministry. Eyes Of Lagos reports, The clarification comes amid growing public concern following earlier confirmation by the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, that the cleric had been invited for questioning over multiple petitions filed against him. According to the police, the investigation was paused to avoid duplication, as the case has now been transferred to a higher police formation for further action. Speaking on the matter, the command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, represented by Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed that the Lagos Command halted its probe after discovering that the matter was already under investigation by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2, Sylvester Alabi, under the supervision of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. Adebisi explained that the Lagos Command could not conduct a parallel investigation while Zone 2 was handling the petitions. “There has not been further investigation from the command. When he was invited, we discovered that there were similar petitions already being investigated at Zone 2. The Commissioner of Police then directed us to halt our investigation,” she said. She added that the probe would be reopened after the Zone 2 Command concludes its work. The police spokesperson further revealed that efforts to advance the investigation were hindered because the complainants invited by the Lagos Command failed to appear. “All the complainants we have been calling have refused to show up. For now, we are not pressing further. We are waiting for the outcome from Zone 2, and then we will determine the next line of action,” Adebisi stated. She confirmed that Pastor Okafor was released on self-recognition and directed to report to Zone 2 for continued investigation. The controversy surrounding Pastor Okafor began in December 2025 after Nollywood actress Doris Ogala publicly accused him of reneging on a promise of marriage, claiming the alleged betrayal caused her emotional and psychological distress. As the accusations gained traction, additional claims emerged on social media, prompting widespread public debate. In response, Pastor Okafor issued a public apology to Ogala and other women he said he had wronged, while also accusing his ex-wife, Bessem, of adultery. Bessem denied the allegation and countered with claims of physical abuse during their marriage. Amid the escalating controversy, the cleric announced he would step aside from ministerial duties for one month, pending the outcome of investigations. The mother of 13-year-old Anu, the girl at the centre of a renewed paternity controversy involving Afrobeats star David Adeleke (Davido), has publicly broken her silence, making fresh claims about her past relationship with the singer and the DNA tests previously referenced by him. In a lengthy post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the woman, identified as Ayo Labinjoh, alleged that she met Davido 13 years ago while working as a waitress, insisting that their relationship resulted in the birth of her daughter. Eyes Of Lagos reports, Labinjoh strongly rejected labels often attached to her online, stating that she has prioritised her daughter’s mental and emotional wellbeing, especially following years of alleged bullying. She claimed her daughter suffered severe emotional distress, including fainting in school and undergoing psychotherapy, as a result of the prolonged paternity controversy. “I am very protective of my daughter’s mental health after the level of bullying she went through for years,” she wrote. Addressing Davido’s assertion that multiple DNA tests had shown he is not Anu’s father, Labinjoh alleged that the results were manipulated or falsified. According to her account, a DNA test conducted in 2014 did not follow proper procedures, claiming that her daughter’s blood sample was allegedly discarded and that a false result was later produced. These allegations, however, remain unverified. She further disputed earlier claims that she selected the testing facility, insisting that the process was controlled by Davido’s family. Labinjoh stated that she is now seeking an independent and transparent DNA test, proposing that it be supervised by officials from the United States State Department through the US Embassy in Lagos or Abuja. She based this request on her claim that Davido is a US citizen, arguing that international oversight would ensure credibility and fairness. In her post, the woman further alleged that Davido recently contacted her daughter directly, making threats and using abusive language — claims that have not been independently confirmed. Hellen Ati Calls Out Cubana Chief Priest Over Alleged Son’s Poor Condition: “Your Pikin Dey Lick Plate Kenyan socialite Hellen Ati has once again called out Nigerian nightlife entrepreneur and celebrity barman, Cubana Chief Priest, accusing him of neglecting their alleged son. In a new social media post that has sparked reactions online, Hellen shared a video of her young son licking a plate after eating, claiming that the boy is suffering due to the business mogul’s alleged refusal to take responsibility. Eyes Of Lagos reports, The viral video reignited the long-standing controversy surrounding Cubana Chief Priest — real name Pascal Okechukwu — and Hellen Ati, who has repeatedly insisted that the socialite fathered her son during a previous relationship. Hellen Ati’s Message to Cubana Chief Priest Taking to her Instagram story, Hellen posted the video with a direct message to the nightlife boss, writing: “Pascal, your pikin is licking plate for here. Come carry your pikin.” The short clip showed the little boy licking a plate after finishing his meal, which Hellen presented as proof of his alleged poor living condition. Hellen mocked Chief Priest in the caption, suggesting that while he flaunts wealth and luxury online, his supposed child is being left to live in hardship. “Your son is here licking plates while you’re busy spraying money in the club. Come and do the right thing,” she wrote in another post. A History of Allegations This is not the first time Hellen Ati has publicly called out Cubana Chief Priest over alleged paternity and child support issues. Months earlier, she accused the businessman of abandoning her and their supposed child after she got pregnant. Hellen claimed that she had reached out to him several times for financial support but was ignored. She also demanded that Chief Priest travel to Kenya to conduct a DNA test, insisting that the child belongs to him. Despite her repeated calls, the nightlife promoter has maintained silence and has not publicly responded to her allegations. “He knows the truth. I have told him several times to come and do DNA, but he’s avoiding it. I just want him to take responsibility,” she stated in a previous interview. Public Reactions to the Viral Clip The video of Hellen’s son licking a plate quickly went viral across Nigerian blogs and social media platforms, sparking mixed reactions from users. While some sympathized with Hellen and urged Cubana Chief Priest to address the issue, others criticized her for constantly using social media to drag the businessman. One user, @justkency, commented: “Mark my words, this boy will join his mom to shout Pascal Okechukwu, come and do DNA one day.” Another, @Naijagistblog_, jokingly remarked: “Hunger wan finish Chief Priest next of kin 😅.” @simplysympa added: “This is the true definition of nemesis. Pascal come and take your pikin o!” Cubana Chief Priest Yet to Respond As of the time of filing this report, Cubana Chief Priest has not issued any official statement or response regarding Hellen Ati’s latest claims. The celebrity barman, known for his lavish lifestyle and close association with top Nigerian entertainers like Davido, has often been in the spotlight for both his business ventures and public controversies. Meanwhile, Hellen Ati continues to share updates about her life in Kenya, using her Instagram page to highlight the alleged struggles of raising her two children without support. Social Media Debate The ongoing drama has once again fueled discussions around celebrity accountability, paternity disputes, and social media exposure. Many users have questioned whether airing personal issues online is the right approach, while others see it as the only way for less influential individuals to be heard. Regardless of the public divide, Hellen’s persistence has ensured that the matter remains in the headlines, keeping both her and Cubana Chief Priest in the center of online conversation. https://eyesoflagos.com/hellen-ati-calls-out-cubana-chief-priest-over-alleged-son-viral-video/ cc: Mynd44 , Nlfpmod , Seun

Messi Commits to Inter Miami Until 2028 Football legend Lionel Messi has officially signed a new contract extension with Inter Miami, securing his place in Major League Soccer (MLS) until the end of the 2028 season, the club announced on Thursday, October 23, 2025. In a short but emotional video shared on Inter Miami’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, the Argentine superstar was seen signing the new deal inside the under-construction Miami Freedom Park stadium, which will serve as the club’s new home ground. The caption simply read: “He’s Home.” The new contract extends Messi’s initial agreement by three years, ensuring his continued presence in the MLS well into his 40s — and beyond the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Eyes Of Lagos reports, “Miami Feels Like Home,” Says Messi Reacting to his contract extension, the 38-year-old World Cup winner expressed gratitude and excitement about continuing his journey in Miami. “It makes me really happy to stay here and to continue with this project that, besides being a dream, has become a beautiful reality, playing in this stadium, at Miami Freedom Park,” Messi said in the club’s official statement. “Since I arrived in Miami, I’ve been very happy, so I’m truly glad to keep going here.” The Argentine forward, who joined Inter Miami in 2023 after a challenging stint with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), has been pivotal in transforming the club into one of the most followed teams in MLS history. Beckham Praises Messi’s Loyalty and Legacy Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham lauded Messi’s decision to stay, describing it as a powerful symbol of commitment to both the club and the sport in the United States. “He’s still as committed as he’s ever been and he still wants to win,” Beckham said. “As owners, to have a player that loves the game as much as he does, and who has done as much for the game in this country and to inspire the next generation of young talent as he has, we feel very lucky.” Beckham, who himself played a key role in the global growth of MLS after joining LA Galaxy in 2007, added that Messi’s influence has been “transformational” for the league’s popularity and the city of Miami. Messi’s Journey: From Barcelona to Miami Stardom Before joining Inter Miami, Messi spent nearly 20 years at FC Barcelona, where he established himself as one of the greatest players in football history — winning 10 La Liga titles, 4 UEFA Champions League trophies, and 6 Ballon d’Ors during his time at Camp Nou. After departing Barcelona due to financial restrictions in 2021, Messi joined PSG, where he added two Ligue 1 titles to his collection before moving to the MLS in 2023. Since arriving in Miami, Messi has brought global attention to the league, with record-breaking match attendance, skyrocketing jersey sales, and increased broadcasting rights for MLS matches around the world. Historic Achievements in the MLS Messi’s impact on the field has been equally impressive. In 2024, he was named the Major League Soccer Most Valuable Player (MVP) despite Inter Miami’s early playoff exit. In the 2025 season, he reached another milestone, becoming the fastest player in MLS history to score 40 goals. He also finished as the league’s top scorer with 29 goals in 28 matches, winning the MLS Golden Boot. This year, Messi led Miami to a third-place finish in the Eastern Conference, sealing the regular season with a hat-trick in a thrilling 5–2 win over Nashville SC. A Contract Beyond Football Messi’s new deal extends his influence far beyond the pitch. The agreement is reportedly tied to Miami Freedom Park’s launch, a world-class stadium and community complex set to open in 2026, expected to become a landmark for American soccer. With this extension, Messi’s presence will continue to boost MLS global visibility, attract top international talents, and further strengthen soccer’s popularity in the United States — just as the country prepares to host the World Cup 2026. Aiming for More World Cup History At 38, Messi continues to defy expectations. With 114 international goals for Argentina, he remains one of the most prolific scorers in world football. He led Argentina to World Cup victory in 2022, Copa America titles in 2021 and 2024, and recently topped the South American qualifiers with eight goals. The new contract also keeps the door open for a potential sixth World Cup appearance — a historic feat that could see him surpass Miroslav Klose’s all-time record of 16 World Cup goals. Messi’s Legacy Continues Messi’s renewed commitment to Inter Miami reaffirms his love for the game and his determination to keep inspiring the next generation of players across the globe. From Rosario to Barcelona, from Paris to Miami, his journey continues to redefine what longevity and passion mean in football. As the Inter Miami video perfectly put it: “He’s Home.” https://eyesoflagos.com/lionel-messi-signs-new-inter-miami-contract-until-2028/ cc: Mynd44 , Nlfpmod , Seun
