u need to study them intensely when they play together, then u can start to decipher their specific functions. neither of them can do without each other
obviously, iniesta looks better to the shallow eye (iniesta slightly edges xavi IMO jst because his type is very rare), but xavi's functions cannot be understated,

xavi had 38 assists or barca last season, barca and spain without xavi is like a someone without a heart. . . .even thgh there are more players like him than iniesta, he's d best of his type and his type is a neccessity

this brings me back to the topic, all the midfielders listed represent different types of midfielders, so rating them is not always gonna be easy
