Two Army officers allegedly involved in the abduction of Margaret Emefiele, wife of the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin, PremiumTimes is reporting. The officers, Musa Maidabara, a corporal and Edwin George attached to the 322 Artillery Regiment and 371 Artillery Regiment respectively in Maiduguri were arrested with about ₦15 million with them and other material possessions. Recall that Mrs Emefiele was kidnapped along Benin-Agbor Road on September 29, 2016, alongside four others including her police detail. The Emefieles reportedly parted with a large amount of money as ransom. According to the report, officer George was arrested at his hometown in Otukpo, Benue state while Maidabara was arrested along Benin-Asaba Road. READ ALSO: We didn’t intend to kidnap Mrs Emefiele – Musa Muhammad It was gathered that Maidabara visited his brother, also a soldier, at 14 Field Engineer Regiment, Onitsha, Anambra State, with whom he kept all the money where operatives later recovered them, sources said. They also had two Honda Accord cars with them at the time of their arrest. But the Nigerian army is yet to confirm the report just as the police have also declined official comment. According to Daily Sun, the houses at Barhim Quarters, GRA and Makera Estate in the state capital, all had the inscription “EFCC, UNDER INVESTIGATION” on their walls. The development comes on the heels of an ongoing investigation of the former governor by the commission on charges of inflation of contracts and embezzlement of funds belonging to the state, to the tune of over N70 billion. Reacting to the development, Shema’s media aide, Oluwabusola Olawale urged agencies involved in the investigations to respect his principal’s right to fair hearing. Meanwhile, EFCC officials had, earlier in the year, interrogated former local government chairmen and top government officials who served during Shema’s second term in office. Shema’s administration is also being investigated by a Juducial Panel of Inquiry set up by his predecessor, Governor Aminu Bello Masari in March. Shema, the immediate past governor of Katsina state, who was declared wanted by the EFCC, says he is not on the run from investigation. Shema who was declared wanted on Wednesday, September 14, said he was prepared to honour the invitation of the EFCC on June 28 but the anti-graft agency cancelled the interview at the last minute. According to the Nation, the former governor said he was surprised that he was declared wanted by the anti-graft agency, describing the action as malicious and misleading. He said: “Without any formal invitation to me, the EFCC purported, by a letter dated June 17, 2016, sent to a wrong address of Wole Olanipekun & Co. asking the law firm to make Dr. Ibrahim Shehu Shema available for an interview with the undersigned on Tuesday, June 28, 2016. The letter was signed by Hyecinth A. Edozie. “Despite the incongruity in the way and manner the invitation was extended to me through a counsel – and also through a wrong address of the same counsel, and notwithstanding the fact that I was already billed to travel to Saudi Arabia for the lesser hajj (Umrah) on the appointment day, I cancelled all the engagements to honour the invitation with my counsel on the said June 28, 2016, only to be informed, around 10am on that day that the interview would no longer hold, as Mr. Hyecinth A. Edozie was out of Abuja, and that a new date, after Sallah, would be communicated.” Shema said his legal representative had written a letter to the EFCC on June 28, 2016 addressed to Edozie for a new date for interrogation. He noted that the letter was delivered, received, stamped and duly acknowledged at the EFCC office on the same day June 28, 2016. The former governor said the EFCC has not responded to the said letter, suggesting any date. |

She said this in an interview with Doreen Avio on Let’s Talk Entertainment on Joy TV. “I am not dating, I am very single, I don’t know, people are expecting me to be dating but I have a lot to do in terms of work and that is where my focus is. “The men I have dated or who have been in my life are some crazy set of people so I don’t want to start anything I am not sure of.” She said. Explaining why she is mostly seen and heard of in Nigeria, Juliet attributed it to low production of movies in Ghana. “Filming in Ghana is a bit slow but per the population in Nigeria; the demand for movies is high so there is always a lot to do there. And sometimes, while there, you will find out that there are events that you need to grace and all,” she said. Ibrahim was born in Ghana to a Lebanese father and a Ghanaian-Liberian mother. She is the first child and has two sisters; Sonia, Nadia, and a brother. Juliet along with her siblings spent the longest part of their childhood in Lebanon and Ivory Coast due to the war in Liberia. The Nigerian military has vowed to deal decisively with marauding herdsmen that have been terrorising people and killing in different parts of the country, the same way it is dealing with the Boko Haram insurgency, Niger Delta militancy and other acts of criminality. The Director of Defence Information (DDI), Brig-Gen. Rabe Abubakar, gave the assurance yesterday in response to THE enquiries into the gruesome murder of over 40 farmers of Ukpabi Nimbo Community in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area in Enugu State by the suspected Fulani herdsmen. Abubakar said the military would collaborate with the Nigerian Police and other security agencies to ensure the security of lives and properties in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s directives following the public outrage that greeted the massacre. The issue of security of lives and property rests solely on the Armed Forces and other security agencies, not only to tackle the herdsmen, but also any other criminal gang internally and externally cannot be tolerated,” he said. Consequently, he said efforts were now being channeled towards ensuring that there is security of lives and property in the areas where such despicable killings by herdsmen are being perpetrated. He said: “You could recall that the President has given us a directive and it is something we must comply with like in other cases. We deployed our men for Operations against cattle rustling tagged Sharandaji, which is to ensure that no herdsmen involved in criminal activities are spared. “Each and every one of us has a role to play: physical security, giving information, synergising with other stakeholders. That is what we are going to do like we are doing in the North East, Niger Delta and other parts of the country. It would involve not only the military.” Speaking further, Abubakar said the military and other security agencies would do everything to ensure that the security of lives and properties of Nimbo community in particular and that of Nigerians in general were sustained. He said that the security threat and challenge posed by the suspected killer herdsmen was a top priority for the authorities, and promised that those behind the dastardly acts would be apprehended. The military, he said, has condemned the incident and vowed to do everything to contain further escalation, including apprehending those responsible and bringing them to justice. “We must live in peace and be our brothers keepers in this time as conflict cannot be seeing as the answer to problems,” he urged. On how the operation will be structured and commanded, Abubakar said it would take the Joint Task Force (JTF) format but that they were still perfecting the details. He however noted that tackling the emerging security challenges would require the cooperation and support of all stakeholders including the security agencies, political and as well as community leaders. According to the Defence Spokesman, the military has been proactive and successful in most of its operations, saying that current threat by herdsmen will not be different. He said: “We have been very proactive in the operations and a lot of successes have been recorded. The current resurgence of this issue of herdsmen is something which must be given a priority now that there is a glaring security threats to lives and property, which the Armed Forces and other security agencies cannot close its eyes to. “The issue of security of lives and properties is very important and should not be politicised. The locals must ensure that they cooperate with the security agencies, who are deployed to ensure that there is maximum security of lives and property.” In the same vein, Abubakar said that the issues of other persons coming from other neighbouring countries to aide the local herdsmen cannot be ruled out completely because of the porous nature of the borders. “I believe, with what we are planning to achieve, the issue of herdsmen’s threat would be drastically reduced,” he said. Continuing, he said: “We are doing all we can to ensure that maximum measures are put in place to ensure that this kind of things are completely stopped and peace and order restored… “And I believe the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), being the number one officer in the country, was briefed, and I believe we will come out with our own strategy in collaboration with other security agencies, on how to stop the excesses of the perpetrators of these killing of villagers and our citizens. It cannot be tolerated. SOURCE http://www.no1nigeria.com/2016/05/military-vows-to-deal-with-killer.html |

Plateau Coordinator of SON, Mr. George Musa, who led the raid on the shops, said the exercise which would be continuous was aimed at ridding the country of fake and substandard products, noting that the organisation started with electric cables because electric cable is one of the products categorised as life endangering products. He said Nigeria has one of the best, if not the best cables in the world and wondered why people patronise substandard imported cables. “If substandard electric cables are used to wire a house and there is a problem of power surge, the cable can easily yield and melt down because they are mainly made from iron with very low resistance compared to copper”, Musa noted, and added that it can even lead to fire outbreak and destroy the whole building. He stated that the affected shops would remain sealed until SON finishes its investigation and gets an approval from its head office to reopen the shops. “It will not end with the sealing of the shops; those whose offences are grievious would be taken to court and prosecuted according to the law. We are doing this because people are dying from the use of substandard products.” He stated that the seized cables would not be returned to the owners but would be destroyed after conclusion of investigation. According him, SON would not just raid shops but also go after manufacturers that refuse to conform to standards in spite of consistent warning from the organisation. Musa added that other building materials would also be checked to ensure that they conform to standard. He said, “We are also going to visit tyre dealers and many other products including provisions’ supermarkets, to ensure that the products conform to standard.” Among the shop sealed are; Okey Dubai Electrical Shop, Jenco Electrical Shop, and Jutex Electrical Associates, all in Rwang Pam business area of Jos. Others are Iky Moor Investment Co at Church street and Jonny Electrical Company Ltd, located opposite the General Post Office, Jos.
