Ola Johnson: May your mother and sisters be like her since she is a role model.

PoliticsRe: IBB To Soyinka; Practise What You Preach. by launique: 9:11pm On Jul 14, 2013
It is clear that Prof Soyinka has clearly lost it. He should go back to the drawing board and re-strategize. Picking quarrels with everyone is not good for his image

ilugunboy: You need to excuse the guy. . He was born during the military era...they all tend to confuse the pseudo federalism that we have in place which in reality is unitarian to true federalism. Obviously his limited knowledge of form of governments is confusing him.
I know all these, but no be Nigeria we dey? When in Rome you have to do things they way Romans do their things. Each country has its own system and its own derivative of democracy. Britain has theirs, Australia has theirs, Russia has theirs and so does Nigeria. wink
PoliticsRe: Why are Nigerians Siding Amaechi in A Supremacy Battle With His Boss? by launique(op): 11:55am On Jul 14, 2013
Ola Johnson: You're a bad student of government as a subject. Read federalism, confederalism and unitarianism.
hahahahaha grin

$£yi:
same soyinka that voiced out his support for jonathan when unconstitutional politicians wanted to sideline him in 2011.
same soyinka that criticized buhari which indirectly is a political gain for Jonathan. Then, you all hailed him

But he becomes a Tribalist and bias because his present thought and opinion is against the uncultured ill-educated president's wife that you all take as your demigod.
I see you all as cowards who can't stand for the truth when your mentor and admirer make moves that are obviously wrong to any sane human. Soyinka again has proven his global respect for this giant action of supporting the right at the right time and castigating his/her senseless and shameful actions.
Soyinka should talk only when he has something meaningful to say

wirinet: Can you please do us a favour and quote relevant sections of thr constitution hat empowers the Federal Government to oversee the activities of the state governments. The education would be highly appreciated.

Apart from the president controlling the armed forces and the police thereby having monopoly of violence (officially that is), governors are more powerful in respect of the state they govern. The president is only using his monopoly of violence and huge rescourses available to him to bully the governors.
so what exactly does the president do

kingoflag: What the hell do you mean: "Its true that hes done wrong but its blown out of proportion" ? Does that even make sense to you? Its either hes done wrong or hes done no wrong. Finish.

Next, so if his predecessors were bad, he has no reason to be good!??!?

HOW THE HELL DO YOU GUYS REASON?!
I'm not saying that he shouldn't do what is right. All I'm saying is that his predecessors did worse things yet they weren't criticized or insulted like this and you would hardly hear of their misdeeds in AIT, channels and the likes or read about them in Vanguard, the nation etc

Nairaland GeneralRequest for the creation of a Nairalanders' Political Blog by launique(op): 10:08am On Jul 14, 2013
This idea came to me while I was going through some opinion pieces and editorials in some of the Nigerian online news outlets like The Sun, Vanguard, Sahara Reporters and The Punch. Don't laugh at me or call this a stupid idea, but I want to know if it is possible for all the political enthusiasts and firebrands in Nairaland to create a blog where they will all air their opinions by writing well researched and worded opinion pieces, columns and editorials on current issues affecting the country and beyond. The blog will be a collective effort and it will be owned by all the members, not by a single individual. Interested Nairalanders will indicate their interest and given columns/opinion pieces/sections to write based on their areas of concentration. There would be two or three moderators or "site owners" who would manage the blog and be in charge of the designs, arrangement and all that. I'm just thinking aloud, what is your opinion my fellow Nairalanders? I hope Seun will not kick against this and hide my post grin

PoliticsRe: Why are Nigerians Siding Amaechi in A Supremacy Battle With His Boss? by launique(op): 8:47am On Jul 14, 2013
Nigeria has three tiers of government: federal, state and local government. The federal government oversees the activities of the state government who in turn oversee the local government. A president is in charge of the federal government while a governor is in charge of the lower tier which is the state. Therefore, a president and a governor cannot be equal. The constitution has already established that hierachy.
PoliticsRe: Soyinka: The Chauvinist Bitterness For The Empowerment Of Women In Nigeria by launique: 8:34am On Jul 14, 2013
Soyinka is biased. He is becoming a tribalist and he has always been a malechauvanist

PoliticsRe: Lagos GDP Exceeds Kenya East Africa Beefiest Economy - The Economist. by launique: 8:29am On Jul 14, 2013
All these dubious statistics and approximations, just like the infamous 2006 census. I keep saying this, Nigerians don't know how to keep statistics. These statistics are sentimental rather than factual.
PoliticsRe: Lagos GDP Exceeds Kenya East Africa Beefiest Economy - The Economist. by launique: 9:22pm On Jul 13, 2013
I wonder how these people come about these indices. The Lagos GDP larger than that of Nairobi and Mombasa combined, not to talk of other parts of Kenya? These figures are clearly inflated
PoliticsRe: Why are Nigerians Siding Amaechi in A Supremacy Battle With His Boss? by launique(op): 9:18pm On Jul 13, 2013
Ola Johnson: Would you then say GEJ is under Boni Yayi of Benin Republic as current chairman of AU because Nigeria is under Africa? Put on your thinking cap, man.
Your comparison is not related at all. Boni Yayi and Jonathan are presidents of sovereign country that don't report to any other authority. They are equal, but in Amaechi's case he is answerable to GEJ because Rivers is a division of Nigeria. A governor and a president can never be equal
PoliticsRe: Why Did Prof. Wole Soyinka Not Condemn Rotimi Amaechi?? by launique: 9:02pm On Jul 13, 2013
thegoodjoehunt: First of all, there is Mili in the word Militant for a reason. The kind of armoury and warfwre strategy they use can't be battled by the police. The Police force is also Federal controlled. So a state governor can't break their protocols to relieve some of their duty to be trained in warfare.

Fianlly from your point, if Obama goes to visit the armed forces in Afghanistan, he should be escorted by police. grin

The militancy situation makes Niger Delta a war zone. You can't just use police to carryout protection. Even local contractors are protected by Army officers. Shell sites are protected by Army officers.

Then the expertriates are even more protected. Yet you want the Governor to be protected by police. cheesy
In nigeria you should know that everything is turned upside down. You mentioned something about federal control. Who controls the military?

PoliticsRe: Why are Nigerians Siding Amaechi in A Supremacy Battle With His Boss? by launique(op): 8:08pm On Jul 13, 2013
Ola Johnson: Point of correction, GEJ is Rotimi Amaechi's boss. They are both elected.
Rivers state is under Nigeria so GEJ is Amaechi's boss
PoliticsRe: Why Did Prof. Wole Soyinka Not Condemn Rotimi Amaechi?? by launique: 8:04pm On Jul 13, 2013
thegoodjoehunt: Don't you know the Niger Delta is a very volatile region with Militancy and kidnapping rampant. Do you know how much armed killing goes on in this region?

That is why the civilian governor is protected by armed military. When PEJ came, was it policemen that protected her? So the first lady should be more protected than the Governor?
this excuse of yours is not a good one. So you mean that the most efficient and equipped 1% of the Rivers State police cannot protect the governor? Instead of surrounding himself with soldiers why not give about 50 policemen military and intelligence training like the ones given to the secret service in Britain who guard the queen, the cia officials who protect Obama or the Swiss Guard who protect the Pope if the Rivers State is that insecure. Why must Nigerian politicans break the law and dishonour the constitution as if Nigeria is their fiefdom?
