no thats not true.that was the initial cash taken there but only 24naira was needed and d rest was given to the Olori.Also tradition has nothing to do with praying to God.

An ancient city of Benin was agog last week Saturday 12th of march 2016 as the family members of His Imperial Majesty,Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi stormed the lemon and cream mansion of his new wife,Olori Wuraola Zainab Otiti Obanor.
Esama of Benin received Ooni of Ife's delegate a day before.A delegate led by the scion of Ogunwusi Kingdom, Prince Oluropo Ogunwusi who is the father of the Ooni of Ife.He welcomed the delegates and presented them with kolanuts broken by Prince Oluropo Ogunwusi.
The Ooni wasn't present because tradition forbids him to prostate or beg for anything whatsoever from anybody so he has to stay at home while he awaits the arrival of his new wife.
It is no doubt that Benin is the custodian of culture and tradition. From time immemorial,bride price has always been paid in olden days pounds as a token.This is irrespective of the bride.For Olori Wuraola Ogunwusi's bride price,it was 24naira and because there is no 4naira in circulation,the Ogunwusi paid the sum of 25 naira.Though they brought a big sum of money(picture below).it was returned to them.The bride price was placed in traditional calabash but after both parties finalised on how much to be taken has bride price, Prince Oluropo who is Ooni's father returned the remaining money to Olori Wuraola Ogunwusi and blessed the money to multiply in good fold.
