The Federal Government has not only resumed work on the long-stalled Abuja to Kano highway but has also expanded the scope of the project to include a new link to Aminu Kano International Airport, according to the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi.

Speaking at the official launch of Section 2 of the highway in Kaduna on Sunday, Umahi detailed the progress and praised the collaborative efforts behind the renewed push.

"The entire 350 km road had 240 km completed by Julius Berger, and the remaining 140 km by two [other contractors], but the president is not only completing this 280 km; he has also added 11 km at the Kano section of the road to take the road to Aminu Kano International Airport," Umahi announced.

The project had experienced delays and partial abandonment, but the minister emphasized that new momentum has been injected into the initiative under the current administration.

Umahi also used the opportunity to commend Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for playing a pivotal role in reviving the project.

NPA MD Accused of Squandering N22 Billion in Five Months

An investigative revelation by Nigerian journalist Jackson Ude has brought to light claims that the Managing Director (MD) of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, allegedly squandered a staggering N22 billion within five months. Although Boko Haram used to attack the town twice a month or more, employing hit-and-run tactics, the recent attack was different.

Alleged N33.8bn Fraud: How I received more than N22bn from Federal Ministry of Power – BDC Operator

The trial of former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman continued on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at the Federal High Court, Abuja, presided over by Justice James Omotosho with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC presenting its 8th witness, PW8.

The witness, PW8 Abdullahi Suleman, a bureau de change operator, narrated how more than N22 billion was allegedly siphoned from the Federal Ministry of Power while Mamman was Minister. He said the naira equivalent of the money was exchanged for United States dollars through his business accounts.

Mamman is being prosecuted by the EFCC on a 12-count charge bordering on conspiracy to commit money laundering to the tune of N33,804,830,503.73 (Thirty-three Billion, Eight Hundred and Four Million, Eight Hundred and Thirty Thousand, Five Hundred and Three Naira, Seventy-three Kobo).

At Wednesday’s proceedings, Suleiman, while being led in evidence by prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN narrated that about 12 of his business accounts received money from the Federal Ministry of Power without carrying out any service, contact or project.

Ogun State Court Sentences 22-Year-Old Man to Death by Hanging for Murder of Sex Worker In Abeokuta

An Abeokuta High Court has sentenced 22-year-old Jamiu Malomo to death by hanging after finding him guilty of murdering a sex worker, Asisat Akande. The verdict, delivered on Wednesday by Justice O. Ogunfowora, followed a thorough review of the prosecution's evidence, which the judge ruled had proven the case beyond reasonable doubt.

According to reports from PM News Nigeria, Malomo, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, was convicted of a one-count charge of murder. Justice Ogunfowora, in his judgment, stated that the evidence presented by the prosecution was clear and uncontested, leaving no room for doubt regarding Malomo’s culpability.

"You are hereby guilty of killing Asisat Akande as preferred against you," Justice Ogunfowora declared. "You will be hanged by the neck until you are dead. May God have mercy on you."

During the trial, the state’s Deputy Director of Public Prosecution, Mr. A. M. Adebayo, provided a detailed account of the incident. He explained that Malomo committed the crime on July 18, 2021, at about 9:30 p.m. in the Ori-Apata area of Oke-Aregba, Abeokuta.

According to Adebayo, Malomo had solicited the services of Akande, a commercial sex worker at the 3AD Bar in the Panseke area, agreeing to pay her ₦10,000 for her services. After engaging in sexual activities, Malomo handed her ₦8,000 instead of the agreed amount. This discrepancy sparked an argument between the two. In the course of the disagreement, Malomo stabbed Akande in the neck with a knife, leading to her death.

FG Needs N2.77 Trillion To Complete 149 TCN Ongoing Projects – Minister Of Power Disclose

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has revealed that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) needs approximately N2.77 trillion to complete 149 ongoing projects across the country. This amount exceeds the total budget allocated to the ministry for this year.

In a statement, Bolaji Tunji, the spokesman for the minister, revealed that during a budget presentation at the National Assembly, Adelabu expressed that the completion of these projects would significantly enhance the country’s electricity supply.

He said, “I am happy to appear before you today to address you on what we have been able to achieve since last year and what is expected of us as a ministry this year.
