Before you start talking nonsense about joining NATO, it was never about joining NATO because Russia first invaded Ukraine under a different President and annexed Crimea before Zelensky became President. It was the fear of avoiding Russian invasion again that made Zelensky to start negotiating with NATO for Ukraine to join them because he was looking for security for his nation. He wanted to use it to discourage Russia from ever invading them again in future and while this was still being discussed publicly, Putin foolishly mobilized Russian soldiers and invaded Ukraine and annexed more of Ukraine lands and now using it to bargain for Ukraine to forfeit it in order to end the war.

For your information, go and read the history of Russia, that was how USSR grabbed so many lands in the past and became the nation with the highest land mass. Russia is known for land grabbing, it was never about stopping Ukraine from Joining NATO.
