The Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal has dismissed an appeal by the former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke, challenging the forfeiture of her $40million worth of jewellery to the federal government. The appellate court, on Friday, held that there was no substance in Mrs Alison-Madueke’s application to overturn the lower court’s order. It affirmed the 2019 judgment of Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court which forfeited the jewellery following an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The appellate court gave its judgment in an appeal filed by Mrs Alison-Madueke. On July 5, 2019, the EFCC secured an order of the high court temporarily forfeiting the items to the federal government. According to the schedule attached to the application, the jewellery, categorised into 33 sets, include “419 expensive bangles; 315 expensive rings; 304 expensive earrings; 267 expensive necklaces; 189 expensive wristwatches; 174 expensive necklaces and earrings; 78 expensive bracelets; 77 expensive brooches; and 74 expensive pendants.” The items were seized from the former minister’s premises, at No. 10 Fredrick Chiluba Close, Asokoro, Abuja. Justice Oweibo on July 19, 2019, granted the EFCC’s motion for final forfeiture of the jewellery. The judge held that the former minister failed to show cause why the jewellery should not be forfeited to the federal government. In his application for the final forfeiture order, EFCC counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, had told the judge that the items were reasonably suspected to have been acquired with the proceeds of unlawful activities of the former minister. An investigator with the commission, Rufai Zaki, in an affidavit before the court insisted that the jewellery were beyond the former minister’s “known and provable lawful income.” The investigator further said that findings by the EFCC showed that she started acquiring the jewellery in 2012, two years after she was appointed Minister. The investigator also said that the EFCC was in possession of the details of the bank account through which Mrs Alison-Madueke received her salary as a minister. “The respondent did not utilise her salary or any part of her legitimate income to acquire the assets sought to be forfeaited to the Federal Government of Nigeria,” Mr Zaki said. He said a “damning intelligence report” received by the Commission led to the search of the former minister’s house at No. 10 Fredrick Chiluba Close, Asokoro, Abuja. The former minister, who has remained in the United Kingdom since 2015, challenged the seizure of the jewellery from her premises by the EFCC. According to an affidavit filed on her behalf by her counsel, Awa Kalu (SAN), Mrs Alison-Madueke alleged that the EFCC violated her fundamental “right to own property and to appropriate them at her discretion,” under sections 43 and 44 of the constitution.

Yoruba actor Murphy Afolabi, has reacted to those criticizing his deep Yoruba accent. In a chat with BBC, the actor said he is from Osogbo in Osun state, hence, the reason for his accent. According to him, there is nothing he can do to change it and he has accepted it. Afolabi stated that if he tries to force himself to speak without his accent, people will end up not hearing or understanding him. He said, “There is nothing like someone is making fun of me. Your place of birth is your state. You can’t give birth to someone in Osun state and then you go to Lagos and say you want to have hairs like your father. I was given birth to in Osogbo and everyone knows that in my village, they way we pronounce our ‘S’ is different from the others. if you want to force yourself to speak like a Lagosian, people would hardly hear you. This is the way I’ll talk till I grow old. Whoever doesn’t like it should not play with me.”

Cristiano Ronaldo and his family protected by former elite special forces twins who served in Afghanistan Cristiano Ronaldo and his family are being protected by twin brothers who served in an elite special forces unit in Afghanistan. The footballer, 36 - who signed for Man United for a second time in August - was previously seen guarded by the brothers in September shortly after they were hired as he prepared to jet to Switzerland with the squad for a Champions League tie. One of the twins was also spotted earlier this month at the birthday party organised by his pregnant girlfriend Georgia Rodriguez for their daughter Alana Martina, four, in Madrid. The bodyguards have now been revealed as brothers Sergio and Jorge Ramalheiro, former soldiers who fought in Afghanistan before going on to join a Portuguese police close protection unit protecting judges and politicians Portuguese celeb magazine Flash said the twins, part of a set of triplets, had been hired by Cristiano after they requested to go on unpaid leave from the PSP police to pursue other interests. The third brother, named as Alexandre, is still understood to be working as a police officer. An insider told local media: 'Sergio and Jorge dress elegantly and look very normal. They are capable of mixing with the crowd but they are quick to think, see and act at the right moment.' Cristiano's security team caught the eye when the twins accompanied him to Manchester Airport for the start of his team’s Champions League campaign against Swiss team Young Boys. The stylish pair, whose identities had not been made public at the time, helped the forward with his luggage after dropping him off for the flight. Reports at the time said the Portuguese international and his family would receive round-the-clock protection following his return to Old Trafford. The star - who recently announced girlfriend Georgina was pregnant with twins - was said to have taken steps to ramp up his security after being warned he was set to become a ‘magnet’ for criminal gangs. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-10234103/amp/Cristiano-Ronaldo-family-protected-ex-elite-special-forces-twins-served-Afghanistan.html

Acting Comptroller-General, NIS, Isa Jere, said Nigeria was the first country in Africa to have issued e-passports in 2007. He urged all holders of Nigerian passports to be good ambassadors of the country. 100 billion Nigerian women just left the whatsapp group right now ahahaha. Imagine you and your woman in this scenario. You have just 1.3M only in your bank account. Your Wife has 9 million, your house rent is 1.2 million and due for payment. Omo e don be! On the other hand it’s not wise as a man you earn 1.3m and live in a house of 1.2m then your wife earns 9m that’s madness. Why not settle for less and with both contribution, build a house instead of living in a rented apartment. In Africa, it’s the man that has to pay. Women in this part of the world don’t take responsibilities especially when their husbands are still alive. One of the reasons why African men die young. The workload is too much on men, so always cut your coat according to your size. Alright let’s hear from you guys.
