Is your DS160 Lagos or Abuja? If it’s Lagos I doubt you’ll be interviewed but please call the embassy to confirm this information.

You must not be aware of the fact that interview location can be changed but a new ds160 form will have to be created with that location.

seems tricky because its 221g but it might be worth the risk if you have urgent travel plans because the worst that will happen is that they will send you back to select september date in lagos

Yes, from Case Last Update 11th April to Case Last update 5th June. Approved. I have a friend that submitted april 15th and her Case Last updated was 4th June. However, yet to be approved.

Hi, is the standard processing for IW now “Refused” status right after “Application Received”?. My mum’s status was updated to “Refused” on the 14th. The status message further read that the refusal status might be for administrative processing, which means the case could later be adjudicated after the administrative processing is completed (I guess that’s what happened with @Dixoxoxo’s case who was later approved without being interviewed).

Of the cases you know of that were updated on the 14th, do you know anyone whose IW status was updated to “approved” or “issued”?. Thanks!

Hello Everyone,

My mother was recently denied a visiting visa due to a lack of strong home ties. She is over 60 years old and has never traveled outside the country. I am currently a permanent resident and stated in the application that I would be sponsoring her trip. She is a businesswoman who runs a wholesale flour business. However, during her interview, she mentioned that they did not ask to see any of her supporting documents.

How can we better demonstrate her strong ties to home in her next application?

In addition to what Debbie said; the fact that you’re a permanent resident sponsoring her trip makes the case more complicated. Put yourself in the visa officers shoes. If I was a visa officer I would think she’s going there to start looking for a way to join you and your permanent residency.

The best way to approach this again will be to make her application independent of you. She should state that she’s going for vacation and maybe to see you and a couple friends. The fact that you’re a permanent resident should not even be brought up. But now that she’s denied, it will be in the record against next time.

I recently applied for a U.S. Business Visa to attend a fully sponsored conference I was invited to. However, I haven’t been able to secure an interview date yet.

At the same time, I’ll be traveling to the UK early next month for another program. I’m wondering — is it possible to transfer or use the same visa application (and fee) to schedule an interview at the U.S. Embassy in the UK instead, since I’ll be there during the intended travel period for the U.S. event?

Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

To the best of my knowledge, you’re a Nigerian and you hold a Nigerian passport. You can only apply for a US visa at the consulate in Nigeria. Only if you’re also a uk citizen then you can use your blue passport to get a us visa in the uk

Checked mine too today it says refused. It’s still the same as 221g. No fear. Dropbox cannot just be outright refused in almost all cases. They will either contact us for interview or documents or they will approve it straight away

I schedule passport pickup but I want to change or cancel the appointment and on the ois page I was told to enter the tracking number which I don't have. I did a mistake and close the confirmation page received after booking the appointment but the email confirmation i got doesn't include the tracking number. Please I need help on how to get the tracking number

Have you received your visa now?

Write them an email requesting for this. They will release the passport. There is a template for the email on the consulate website for Nigeria.

SOS: My uncle and I are bid to travel on the 12th of this month to UK and Canada. He submitted his passport for through dropbox on the 19th of May, until this moment, his passport has not been returned. What can we do to retrieve the passport urgently?

We have booked hotels in London and Canada. Plus flight tickets.

Please help on how to go about it. I did not know that the system has changed. I encouraged him to drop the passport

From my experience, if you’re visiting on a visitors visa, your usually allowed to stay for 3 months max at a stretch so maybe she overstayed

I applied for B1/B2 non- immigrant visa in March 2025( she tried dropbox for renewal but was not successful) for my mom to visit my sister in the US who gave birth last year December for Omugwo and was scheduled for an interview in October 2025.

While waiting for her appointment date she underwent another surgery on her eyes ( this will be the 4th time). All surgeries done in Nigeria. We decided she seek another opinion leading us to apply for expedited (emergency) using medical reasons to get a closer date.

Uploaded necessary documents and a closer date was scheduled for today 3/6/2025 which was unfortunately denied.

She has been to the US twice

The visa officer only asked her if she was in the US last year and a year before and the duration for her stay which was 2months and 5months respectively.

We want to reapply again
1) How do we show/prove strong ties back home
2) We are asked to not to repeat what we filled in the original ds-160 form when filling a new one. What do we fill now?
3) Can we still go through the medical route(b2) because she still needs medical attention and a closer date

I don't think yours is 'administrative processing". Just reschedule like you have stated that you opted for September and go and appear. And just pray its not a big deal. I received 221g as well and was approved.

Hello April family, I dont think you should rely on any information from OIS. As a courier coy, the only business they have with you is to inform you when they have your passport ready for collection except they have failed to notify people. My application is going to be 8th week on Thursday. I will contact the embassy directly if i dont get an update after the 8th week..

Wow. 25th of may was a Sunday, are you sure about this. Plus did they give you a reason for the refusal (maybe the picture you submitted was invalid or they needed more documents).

My connect at the embassy is saying that they’re now doing investigation directly from the US
