PoliticsEFCC Targeting David Mark After Tambuwal, Ihedioha – ADC by Lekison(op): 7:46am On Aug 13, 2025
The African Democratic Congress on Tuesday accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of singling out opposition figures for politically motivated investigations, alleging that the agency’s latest target is its Interim National Chairman and former Senate President, David Mark.

In a statement by its acting National Publicity Secretary, Bola Abdullahi, the ADC said the EFCC had embarked on a “choreographed media trial” against coalition leaders after the detention of former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, on Monday and the invitation of former Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha.

“The EFCC has now surreptitiously started excavating all the files from David Mark’s tenure as Senate President, 10 years after he left office,” Abdullahi said, questioning the timing of the investigations. “The pattern of ignoring APC stalwarts with fresher and well-documented cases, while targeting opposition figures with stale allegations, is proof of selective justice and an assault on political freedom.”

The party alleged that the crackdown was part of the ruling All Progressives Congress’ strategy to weaken the opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It urged Nigerians to demand an end to what it described as “witch-hunt disguised as anti-corruption.”

He said, “Following our earlier release on Monday, we wish to bring to the public’s attention fresh details that expose the extent of this coordinated assault on the opposition. The detention of one of our leaders, former Sokoto State Governor, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, has marked the start of the crackdown intended to intimidate key leaders of the opposition and discredit them through media trials.

“Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha served as Governor of Imo State for just seven months, from May 29, 2019, until the Supreme Court removed him on January 14, 2020 — a full five years and seven months ago. We, therefore, wonder what makes investigating him suddenly urgent now.”

Abdullahi accused the EFCC of selective justice and an assault on political freedom, saying, “Having failed to stop the coalition, the jittery ruling party’s next move is to discredit its leaders by getting the EFCC to accuse them of looting the entire treasuries. These are calculated media trials; it matters little whether there is a basis for these accusations — the game is the circus show.”

Similarly, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar accused President Bola Tinubu of “objectifying the fight against corruption as a political tool to coerce opposition leaders into the ruling party.”

In a statement on his verified Facebook page on Tuesday, Atiku said, “The only reason the EFCC has detained the former Governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, is because he is a member of the opposition coalition. It is a continuation of the Tinubu-led administration’s agenda to harass, intimidate, and decimate the opposition.”

Atiku accused Tinubu of abuse of power, saying, “It is as though today, anyone who associates with the opposition is a target for phantom corruption allegations, and as soon as they are coerced into the political agenda of President Tinubu, their ‘sins’ are forgiven. That is not how to fight the monster of corruption. Indeed, such tendencies provide the stimulant for corruption to thrive. While the genuine fight against corruption is a matter that requires the total support of all Nigerians, the objectification of it as a political agenda should be roundly condemned.”

Also, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria critised the move against opposition politicians, describing the EFCC as “an obedient lapdog deployed to do the dirty political work of the ruling All Progressives Congress.”

In a statement on Tuesday, HURIWA National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, said the move was intended to “break the spine of the opposition before the 2027 race.”

Onwubiko said, “Every discerning Nigerian can see the handwriting on the wall. The EFCC is no longer the fearless watchdog envisioned by law.”

EFCC, Presidency reject claims

Hoever, the EFCC dismissed the accusations as “self-serving, diversionary, narrow and idle.”

The EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, in a statement, said, “If I am not condemned for investigating both former and serving strong ruling party governors and ministers, I should not be condemned for also investigating opposition figures. Fraud is fraud. Corruption is corruption. There is no sacred cow, protected interest or partisan consideration in the investigation and prosecution of corruption.”

PoliticsMore Trouble In ADC As Faction Confronts David Mark, Others by Lekison(op): 6:48am On Aug 02, 2025
An African Democratic Congress (ADC) member of the House of Representatives, Leke Abejide yesterday described the coalition group members who have taken over the affairs of the party as political marauders.

He vowed to team up with other ‘original’ members of the party to chase out such people.

Abejide (Yagba Federal Constituency in Kogi State) spoke to reporters in Abuja 24 hours after Nafiu Bala, a former National Deputy Chairman of ADC from Gombe State declared himself the party’s acting national chairman.

Osun State governor Ademola Adeleke who was reported to be on his way to the ADC yesterday denied any such move on his part.

I’m an original member of ADC, not Coalition ADC, and I want to assure that we shall do all we can to chase out the political marauders that came from PDP, Labour Party, and part of the struggling APC into our party,” Abejide said.

He said any attempt to hijack the ADC by individuals with no historical ties to its founding would not stand.

He said: “When I was nursing the party, where were they? When they destroyed their parties, PDP and LP, we will not allow them to destroy ADC like that.”

He said those now laying claim to the leadership of the party entered through the window, bypassing the legitimate democratic processes and party structures.

Continuing, he said: “I have been watching their character since they claimed to have ADC, and it has become clear to me that they came to the party to hijack the structure, suppress the original members, and use the platform to achieve their aims and objectives.”

The lawmaker said that as the most senior member of the party’s National Executive Committee, he would not fold his arms and watch the party ‘stolen.’

“On this premise, we shall explore legal opinion on the way forward, and I may likely approach the court, as the highest member of the ADC NEC, to challenge the illegality of the so-called current National Working Committee,” Abejide said.

He reaffirmed his loyalty to the founding vision of the ADC, stressing that the party must remain true to its foundational principles and not be reduced to a platform for desperate political actors seeking shortcuts to power.

“I am proud that I am a member of the party and I am a strong reminder of the original beliefs—not irrational beliefs,” he stated.

Dr. Musa Isa Matara, who was the National Publicity Secretary of the party before he was supplanted, accused the coalition-led interim leadership of excluding original ADC members from recent national appointments.

“The coalition team came and appointed people as they liked, without considering the original members in their appointment list,” he told The Nation.

He said that although the Ralph Nwosu-led NEC had handed over the party leadership to Chief David Mark in the presence of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the action of the new leadership fell short of their public commitment to unity.

“Our expectation based on the speech made by David Mark was that he is going to carry all the party structure, all ancestry, without any segregation or bias,” he said.

He alleged that over 50 appointments were made into the new NEC without any inclusion of longstanding ADC members, saying, “none of our ADC members was appointed into positions. It means it’s a hijack.”

He said the ‘original’ members are behind Nafiu.

He added: “We will not allow them to come into our party and hijack the structure of the party without including our members.

“So we are forming a new faction ADC, which we have our leader as Nafiu Bala from Gombe, who was the Deputy national chairman, and is now stepping in as National Chairman of the party.”

He said their faction would be unveiled today.

Nafiu Bala yesterday denied resigning his position as Deputy National Chairman of the party.

He said a May 18, 2025 document purported to be his resignation letter was fake.

Bala, in a statement in Abuja said the document was deceptive and put in circulation by mischievous elements both within and outside the party.

He said: “I wish to unequivocally state that I have not resigned from my position as the Deputy National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The timing and content of this fake resignation letter are not only misleading but also riddled with glaring contradictions that raise serious questions about its authenticity.

“Notably, while the letter claims I resigned on 18 May 2025, it is critical to highlight that on 2 July 2025, during a meeting to receive certain new members into the ADC at the Yar’Adua Conference Center in Abuja, my predecessor, Ralph Nwosu, publicly declared his own resignation.

“In his address to the global media, he made a specific mention of my status, stating, ‘Nafiu Bala did not resign as the Deputy National Chairman.’ This statement alone invalidates any claims of my resignation and underscores the deceitful nature of the circulated letter. Furthermore, I would like to draw attention to the discrepancies between my official correspondence and the aforementioned fake resignation letter.

All my official communications have been conducted on the official headed paper of my office, which bears the emblem and insignia of the African Democratic Congress. In stark contrast, the fraudulent resignation letter is presented on plain paper, devoid of any official markings. This blatant difference in presentation further undermines the credibility of the document and highlights the nefarious intentions behind its circulation.

“In light of these developments, I must also question the authenticity of those who are now posing as new leaders of our party. The constitution of the African Democratic Congress clearly stipulates that any individual seeking to assume a leadership position must be a member of the party and must have maintained their financial obligations for a minimum of one year prior to their candidacy.

This provision has not been amended, and any claims to the contrary are simply unfounded. It is essential that we uphold the integrity of our party’s Constitution and ensure that all leadership transitions adhere to the established guidelines.

“The integrity of our party’s governance structures must be preserved, and any actions taken outside of these formal processes cannot be recognized as legitimate.”

Bala asked all party members, supporters, and the broader public to remain alert in the face of misinformation and to reject efforts aimed at sowing discord within the party ranks.

He added, “Our party is built on the principles of democracy, transparency, and integrity, and it is imperative that we work together to uphold these values.

“I reaffirm my commitment to the African Democratic Congress and its vision for a united and prosperous Nigeria. Together, we will continue to advance our agenda and serve the interests of the people we represent.”

CrimeNAPTIP Declares Speed Darlington Wanted Over Alleged Rape Case by Lekison(op): 7:07pm On Jun 27, 2025
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has declared controversial musician, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, wanted for a rape-related case.

This was contained in a post shared by the agency on Friday.

According to the post, Okoye is also wanted for cyberbullying and cyberstalking.

NAPTIP urged anyone with credible information on his whereabouts to contact the agency immediately or report to the nearest police station.

It would be recalled that Darlington was scheduled to appear before the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons on May 30th over his claim of having sex with a 15-year-old girl during a live Instagram video.

Darlington narrated an incident that he said occurred about 10 years ago at a hotel, where he claimed to have slept with a 15-year-old girl who was a virgin, resulting in bloodied sheets.

He stated that he had to pay N2,000 to the hotel staff to have the sheets changed. He expressed his disdain for working for anyone, especially in a hotel, by saying, “Before they would come to change the sheets for me, I had to give N2,000.”

He added, “It’s a difficult situation to ask an adult to come and clean up the blood that I caused from the body of a 15-year-old girl. I can never work for anyone, no way. I only work for myself.”

Politics(BREAKING) Alleged Defamation: Natasha Arrives In Court For Arraignment. by Lekison(op): 11:16am On Jun 19, 2025
The suspended Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has arrived at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Maitama, in Abuja for her arraignment over alleged defamation.

Akpoti-Uduaghan entered the courtroom at approximately 10:30 am, ahead of the session scheduled to commence at 11:00 am, awaiting the entrance of the presiding judge.

The charge was filed by the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Mohammed Abubakar, on behalf of the Federal Government against Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.

In the criminal charge, marked CR/297/25, the Federal Government accuses Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, the sole defendant, of making defamatory statements against the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, during a live television broadcast.

The charge lists the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, as nominal complainants.

It alleges that the Senator claimed Bello had conspired with Akpabio to orchestrate her assassination outside Abuja, disguising it as a mob or local attack.

According to the Federal Government, these allegations were made during a live broadcast on Channels Television’s Politics Today on April 3, 2025.

The FG argues that Akpoti-Uduaghan knowingly or recklessly made these imputations, fully aware that they could harm the reputation of the individuals involved.

She is alleged to have said, “Let’s ask the Senate President why in the first instance did he withdraw my security, if not to make me vulnerable to attacks? He then emphasised that I should be killed, but I should be killed in Kogi. What is important to me is to stay alive because dead men tell no tales. Who is going to get justice for me?”

The charge also cites her statements during the programme, “That you, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, on or about the 3rd day of April 2025, during the same Politics Today programme on Channels Television in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, made the following imputation concerning Yahaya Adoza Bello, former Governor of Kogi State.

‘It was part of the meeting, the discussions that Akpabio had with Yahaya Bello that night, to eliminate me. When he met with him, he then emphasised that I should be killed, but I should be killed in Kogi.’

You knew or had reason to believe that such imputations would harm the reputation of Yahaya Adoza Bello, former Governor of Kogi State.”

The senator is also accused of making defamatory statements about Senate President Akpabio during a telephone conversation with Sandra C. Duru in Abuja on 27 March 2025. The alleged statement is as follows:

“That girl that was killed, what’s her name, umm Imoren Iniubong, her organs were actually used for the wife, because the wife was really ill… when they killed the girl, and her organs were used for the wife.”

The Federal Government contends that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan knew or ought to have known that this claim would harm the reputation of Senator Godswill Akpabio.

Additionally, Akpabio, Bello, and four others have been listed as witnesses for the trial.

CrimeWe Caught IPOB Members Eating Human Flesh, Says DSS by Lekison(op): 8:06am On Jun 19, 2025
The federal high court in Abuja yesterday heard that members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing – the Eastern Security Network (ESN) – were once caught eating human flesh.

An official of the Department of State Services (DSS) said the group’s activities led to the killing of over 170 security agents in the Southeast.

He said during one of DSS’ agents’ raids of ESN’s hideout, they met them engaging in cannibalism.

“We saw some ESN members, about seven, with human heads and some eating human flesh, which they said was for spiritual fortification,” the witness said.

The DSS official was led in evidence by prosecuting lawyer, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), in the terrorism trial of IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. The witness also said the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) did not issue a license to Kanu to import the radio transmitter he allegedly smuggled into the country to operate Radio Biafra.

The fourth prosecution witness gave details of how the late former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Ahmed Gulak, was killed on May 30, 2021, in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

The witness said an NBC engineer confirmed that the German-made transmitter could only be procured and installed with a licence, which he said was never issued.

“There was no application from the defendant. He brought in the transmitter illegally without approval,” the witness said, adding that IPOB members contributed money for the purchase.

The witness said an ESN member, whom he identified as Uzuoma Benjamin, aka Onye Army, admitted receiving directives from Kanu to kill security agents and ensure that a deceased member of the group, Ikonso, was buried with 2,000 human heads.

The witness also read where they said Onye Army claimed that he and other members of his group used the heads of 10 girls to prepare charms for their protection.

He said the investigation revealed that the invasion of Owerri prison by IPOB members was directed by Kanu in one of his broadcasts, asking his followers to attack and kill security operatives.

The DSS official said further investigation revealed that the defendant, in his broadcast, directed that Ikonso should be buried with 2,000 heads, but that only 30 were obtained.

He said that when the DSS requested to access Onye Army, the police claimed he had fled.

“We could not find Onye Army. The police said he had escaped from custody,” the witness said.

He said records on the number of security agents killed in the Southeast stand at between 170 and 200.

The witness said two DSS officials, including his driver, were among the victims, and that the killings cut across all security agencies.

On how the ESN members operate, the witness said they are combatants who carry arms and attack the homes of prominent individuals and traditional rulers in the region.

He said that because they lacked sufficient operational tools, they sometimes set up roadblocks to hijack vehicles for their operation.

The witness identified some public property which he said IPOB and ESN members attacked and destroyed in the Southeast, including police stations.

CrimeNew Terror Group, Mahmuda Kills Three In Kwara by Lekison(op): 7:00am On Jun 04, 2025
The new terrorist group called Mahmuda has invaded Duruma Village in Baruten Local Council of Kwara State, killing three people in the process.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen Olufemi Oluyede, has appealed to the government and people of Benue State to support military efforts in ending the persistent killings and attacks in the state.

This was as the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Abubakar, linked the recent resurgence of Boko Haram attacks in the North-East, particularly in Borno State, to the group’s renewed efforts to destabilise countries across the Sahel region, including Nigeria, Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger Republic.

The recent attack on the village happened in the early hours of yesterday.

However, a highly-placed source said the terrorist group took advantage of the local hunters in Ilorin on training for the National Forest Guard, recently approved by the Presidency to provide security for communities.

The Mahmuda group, in a fresh attack on Duruma village in Baruten Local Council, yesterday, slaughtered three villagers who have since been buried.

The COAS, in April, visited the areas after which soldiers were deployed to the thick forests to flush out the terrorists, during which 12 of them were arrested.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who also visited the troubled communities, gave 25 motorcycles to the local hunters as logistics to complement the soldiers.

It was gathered from the locals that members of the terrorist group never left the areas, but were incapacitated by the presence of the soldiers and local hunters.

A source (name withheld) stated: “Our local hunters are in Ilorin for the training of the National Forest Guard on how they can effectively use weapons to fight the terrorists.

“Eventually, the Mahmuda people felt their absence because they were no longer in the areas they used to be, so they struck those areas and killed three villagers. Though the soldiers eventually came to the areas, firing gunshots in the air after they had fled. A week ago, they also set fire to a farm settlement.”

The COAS, during a visit to Governor Hyacinth Alia at the Benue State Government House in Makurdi, emphasised the need for credible and timely intelligence from locals to aid military operations.

“The military cannot do it alone. We need the cooperation of the people to stop these senseless killings and destruction,” the Army chief stated, describing the attacks by armed herders and militia groups as barbaric.

He reassured the governor of the army’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in the state, stating the military’s determination to end the violence in the shortest possible time.

Alia thanked the COAS for visiting the state and taking the situation seriously. He expressed confidence that the visit would mark a turning point in security efforts across Benue.

Speaking to journalists in Kaduna, yesterday, at the end of his two-day working visit to military institutions in the state, the minister assured Nigerians that the Federal Government was actively tackling the threat.

He noted that the Nigerian Armed Forces gained momentum in the last two weeks and neutralised a significant number of insurgents.

Addressing the continued attacks in parts of the country despite gains made against banditry in the North-West, he explained that each security challenge varies in nature.

CrimeEdo Loses $1 Billion To Cult-Related Violence Annually – Okpebholo by Lekison(op): 8:44am On May 22, 2025
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has disclosed that the state is losing over $1 billion worth of potential investments annually due to the negative impact of cultism and cult-related violence in the state.

Okpebholo, who disclosed this in Benin, yesterday said, said cultism has not only led to tragic loss of lives and properties but also discouraged investments and tourism, slowing down economic growth in the state.

He noted that the spate of cult-related violence in the last five years has caused substantial disruptions to economic activities, as investors and business owners increasingly grew wary of the security situation.

According to statistics by the Diaspora Commission, “Edo State tops the list of states with the highest remittance from the diaspora.

“However, 95 per cent of the repatriated funds ended up in different states due to cultism and other violent crimes, as our people in the diaspora are scared of coming home to invest,” he said.

The situation has led to a loss in disposable income, closure of businesses, and decline in tourism, which has severely impacted the state’s business climate.

Okpebholo’s in a statement by his spokesman, Fred Itua, noted that the state’s critical infrastructure and commercial centres were also affected, with some businesses forced to shut down temporarily or permanently, owing to security concerns.

He said his administration’s declaration of total war on cult-related activities, is already yielding results, with more stakeholders joining the support groups against cultism.

“Edo State has immense economic potential, we will not allow violence and cultism to define our future” he said, adding that the “government is restoring peace, attracting investments and repositioning our economy for sustainable growth.”

He, however, urged Edo sons and daughters both in Nigeria and in the diaspora to help in the economic development of the state by bringing home their investments.

CrimeOsun Amotekun Recovers Stolen Vehicle, Gadgets In Ogun by Lekison(op): 8:22am On May 21, 2025
The Osun State Security Network codenamed Amotekun Corps has announced the recovery of a vehicle and some electronic gadgets stolen by a gang of armed robbers at a hotel in Ode Omu, a town in the state.

The spokesperson for the Amotekun Corps in the state, Idowu Abbas, in a statement on Tuesday, said the vehicle and the stolen items were recovered in Ogere town in Ogun State.

Abbas explained that the Amotekun operatives engaged in an exchange of gunfire with the robbers before the vehicle was recovered, noting that men and officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps also assisted them in the operation.

Explaining further how the items and vehicle were stolen and recovered, Abbas said, “The incident occurred in the early hours of last Saturday, when a group of armed robbers stormed a hotel in Ode-Omu, where the victims from Lagos had lodged overnight to attend a funeral ceremony.

During the attack, the assailants carted away a Toyota Matrix vehicle valued at approximately N7m along with six LG 42-inch televisions worth over N3m.

The victims promptly reported the incident to the Amotekun Corps Command in Ayedaade Local Government, Gbongan.

Acting swiftly, operatives from the local and state commands launched a coordinated tracking operation.

The hot engagement received from Amotekun operatives diverted the hoodlums to Ogere in Ogun State, where they abandoned the stolen vehicle in the nearby bush, with other stolen items. Some of the perpetrators are believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds.”

Commenting, the Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Mr Adekunle Omoyele, lauded the courage and precision of the operatives, adding that “The success of this operation is a clear indication of Amotekun’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of citizens in Osun State,” Omoyele said.

“We also acknowledge the support of the FRSC Ogere Command for their collaboration in achieving this feat. The recovered items were brought back to Osogbo and formally handed over to their rightful owners on Monday by the Corps’ Operations Commander, Olagunju Joseph, at the Amotekun Headquarters Operation Base."

PoliticsEarned Allowances: FG Releases N50bn To Varsity Unions by Lekison(op): 7:34pm On Apr 23, 2025
The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, has announced the release of N50 billion by the Federal Government to the academic and non-academic staff unions of federal universities.

This is contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday by the Director Press, Federal Ministry of Education, Folasade Boriowo.

Alausa said that the money was for settlement of earned allowances, as promised by President Bola Tinubu.

According to him, this ‘landmark development’ stands as yet another testament to Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to fundamentally transform Nigeria’s education sector.

“It reflects the administration’s bold resolve to transition the nation from a resource-based to a knowledge-based economy through strategic investments in education, infrastructure and human capital.

“This intervention is not just a financial transaction, it is a reaffirmation of our president’s belief in the capacity of Nigerian youths and the invaluable role that academic and non-academic staff play in nurturing them.

Christianity EtcLatest Updates: Vatican To Hold Pope’s Funeral On Saturday April 26th. by Lekison(op): 3:51pm On Apr 22, 2025
Pope Francis’ funeral will take place on Saturday April 26th in front of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, the Vatican announced on Tuesday, and will feature simpler rituals in keeping with the more down-to-earth, informal style that became a trademark of Francis’ papacy.

Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, the dean of the College of Cardinals, will preside over the ceremony, and the rites will follow rules issued by the Vatican last year, under Francis’ direction.

On Tuesday, the pope’s body lay in rest at his residency, Casa Santa Marta, a guesthouse in Vatican City. Images released by the Vatican showed Francis in an open coffin, dressed in red and white vestments and holding a rosary. On Wednesday, the coffin will be taken in a procession to St. Peter’s Basilica to lie in state for about three days, with mourners allowed to visit and pay tribute.

Memorial Masses for Francis were being offered across the world on Tuesday, including at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Sydney and Manila Cathedral in the Philippines. Flags flew at half-staff at government buildings and days of official mourning began in a number of countries including Italy, Brazil, Lebanon, India and Argentina, the pontiff’s homeland.

Political and religious leaders from around the globe are expected to attend the pope’s funeral service. Francis had confronted some over their treatment of dispossessed groups, especially migrants. President Trump, who was one of them, said he planned to attend, adding another wrinkle for Vatican planners, given the size of his entourage. It is likely to be Mr. Trump’s first overseas trip this term.
