PoliticsAPC Scared, Causing Crisis In PDP, LP, NNPP – Dele Momodu by Leobankx(op): 6:29am On Jan 25, 2025
Veteran journalist, Dele Momodu, has accused the All Progressives Congress, APC, of causing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Labour Party, LP, and New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP.

Momodu said APC was orchestrating crisis within the opposition to weaken them.

In an interview with Arise Television, the PDP chieftain accused APC of pushing Nigeria towards a one-party state.

According to Momodu: “Nigeria is obviously moving in a direction of a one-party state.

The ruling party, APC, is so scared of opposition that right now crisis are being orchestrated from party to party, especially the leading opposition parties like PDP, Labour Party, and NNPP. It’s obvious what is going on.

He further expressed concern about the uncertainty surrounding the situation, stating, “no one is in doubt about that. How this would end, I have no idea. So, we are watching.

Stressing that power is transient, Momodu cautioned those currently aligned with the APC.

The maximum they would do is eight years, so after that, what next? It’s not about how long, it’s about how well.

That’s why I’m advising a lot of people now who are holding onto Asiwaju; he would think they love him—No!

It’s self-preservation because they lost out in one party, they ran to Asiwaju, and now they are using him as an umbrella when they should be holding the broom,” he said.

PoliticsRe: "Nigerians Must Agree On Terms To Stay United" – Ex-gov Victor Attah by Leobankx(m): 8:46am On Jan 18, 2025
Well this is the truth, you can't dump over 100 tribes together to make one country with no single agreement.

We'll keep fighting insecurity till God knows when, it was the Niger Delta militants in the early 2000s then Boko Haram up north then can the UGM in the South East, all fighting to secede.

Unless the government solve the root cause of the problem then we'll keep using billions that could have been used to develop other sectors in fighting insecurity
PoliticsObasanjo Stopped Akwa Ibom From Having 24-hour Power After I Built Plant – Attah by Leobankx(op): 8:38am On Jan 18, 2025
A former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Victor Attah, has alleged that ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo stopped him from distributing electricity to the people of the South-South state after he built a 191 megawatts power generation station.

Attah, who was Akwa Ibom governor from May 1999 to May 2007, the same time Obasanjo was Nigeria’s democratically elected president, said the then president instructed that the electricity generated from the Akwa Ibom power plant be added to the national grid.

The octogenarian was a guest on the Friday edition of Inside Sources with Laolu Akande, a socio-political programme aired on Channels Television.

Attah decried the current constitution and arrangement in the country, saying a new constitution and federal arrangement will enable federating units to have powers to be coordinates and not subordinates.

He said what we have now is an authoritarian system called the Constitution because it was imposed by the military. “We need to go back to an agreeable constitution by our founding fathers at Independence,” he said, expressing disappointment that President Bola Tinubu has not started moves to make Nigeria have true federalism.

The ex-governor said, “I decided I want to give Akwa Ibom state power. The president said no, the Federal Government is providing power for the country. I said: ‘I want to give Akwa Ibom State power’ and then I succeeded in building that power station. The president came and I saw that he was happy about what I was doing. He commissioned the power station but went back to Abuja and brought a law that if you generate, you cannot distribute it.

I used Akwa Ibom money (to build the plant) but I cannot distribute power to Akwa Ibom people? I have to put in the National Grid that is failing all the time. That was how that ended.

So, Akwa Ibom State, like every other state doesn’t have 24-hour constant power which was my dream for Akwa Ibom. If I had had it done, several other states would have followed suit.

Interesting enough, only this morning I was reading the papers and I heard where our respected Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said we should decentralise power generation and distribution. That’s what I was trying to do but because of the faulty federal arrangement that we have I was stopped. It should not happen in a federal arrangement.

Attah said he was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the time so Obasanjo’s disapproval wasn’t about party politics but about a faulty federal arrangement.

He said, “It does not say much about party politics; it says much about the constitution that we have — the non-federal constitution that we have. If we have a true federal constitution it would never have happened. I would have built my power station. Whatever party I belong to won’t have mattered. What is fundamentally wrong with us is the nature of the constitution that we have today — it is not a federal constitution and unless and until we go federal, we will not make progress.

We generate power and put it in the national grid – the inefficient national grid that is always collapsing…Every kobo that was spent was in Akwa Ibom money to build that power station but a faulty constitution and constitutional arrangement makes it possible for a president to say even this power station, I’m taking it from you and I’m putting it in the national grid.

Attah applauded the amendment of the Electricity Act 2023 which significantly opened up the space for states to step into the power space, generate and distribute electricity as well as regulate the sector in their respective states.

Now that the new law has been brought out, our governor (Umo Eno) is working very hard to make sure that we now have an Akwa Ibom power company that not only generate but distribute power to the people,” he said.

For decades, Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, has been faced with intractable energy challenges, no thanks to an epileptic power supply that significantly affects productivity levels. Despite the privatisation of the electricity sector, power generation, transmission and distribution have remained bogged with hydra-headed monsters of policy inconsistency, low investments and operational challenges.

In 2024, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) approved the upward review of electricity prices with a unit of power costing about N250 for Band A customers. The cost of petrol and diesel which are readily available alternatives have equally increased by fivefold, compounding the dilemma of consumers.

In the same year, NERC granted at least eight State’s Electrify Regulatory Commissions licenses to power plants and power distribution. The states are Enugu, Ekiti, Ondo, Imo, Edo, Kogi, Oyo and more recently, Lagos. Experts have described the move to democratise the electricity market as a step in the right direction, necessary to give a boost to the industrialisation of the country and increase productivity.

PoliticsShehu Sani Reveals How To Settle Kano Emirate Tussle by Leobankx(op): 1:58pm On Jan 17, 2025
Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has admonished the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi, and the deposed Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, to settle the Kano Emirate tussle.

Sani suggested that Emir Sanusi and Ado Bayero should take to a soccer field to resolve their differences.

Posting on X, Sani wrote: “Kano Emirate tussle: High Court is the quarter-finals, Appeal Court is the semi-finals, and Supreme Court is the final.

“The scores so far are 1:1. I predict a penalty kick between Team Brother Aminu FC and Team Brother Sanusi FC.”

The Abuja Division of the Appeal Court had nullified the order of the Federal High Court in Kano.

The Kano Federal High Court had nullified Sanusi’s appointment following an emirate tussle in Kano State.

The order nullifying Sanusi’s appointment was issued by Justice Abubakar Liman of the Kano Division of the Federal High Court on June 20, 2024.

However, the Appeal Court had dismissed the ruling of the Federal High Court.

In 2024, the Kano State government deposed Ado Bayero while reinstating Sanusi as Emir.

The action was taken after the Kano State House of Assembly repealed the Kano Emirate Law of 2019, which had created five emirates.

PoliticsNnamdi Kanu Offers ₦1 Million Challenge To Law Students by Leobankx(op): 8:20am On Jan 17, 2025
Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has offered one million naira to students of Nigerian law school.

Kanu offered the money to any law student who can provide an authority where a judge granted stay of release of a person acquitted by the court.

This was disclosed by Kanu’s legal team led by his lead Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, Jude Ugwuanyi, and Nnaemeka Ejiofor, and Mandela Umegborogu in Abuja on Tuesday.

Speaking on behalf of the lawyers, Ejiofor said: “Mazi Nnamdi Kanu pledges to give any law student in any Nigerian University the sum of One Million (N1, 000, 000.00) Naira if such student finds any precedent on stay of execution in criminal proceedings where an acquitted person is by such order restrained from enjoying his freedom.

It is an illegality that would hunt Nigeria for as long as life endures. But then, it was granted because Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is of Igbo descendants and must suffer, notwithstanding what the law says.

The legal team also insisted that Kanu’s contentious detention was illegal and without any court backing.

He added: “It is noteworthy that Onyendu’s continual detention at the Department of State Security Service is illegal and not predicated on any court Order. Recall that Onyendu was remanded on the purport that Onyendu jumped bail.

By the decision of the Court of Appeal, all the charges for which Onyendu is being tried were quashed for want of jurisdiction and in violation of the Extradition Acts of both Kenya and Nigeria.

Justice Tsamani of the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division unlawfully granted an Order staying the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

This order was illegally granted and never in the history of any country’s jurisprudence had an acquitted person been denied his release from detention by way of stay of execution.

PoliticsGlobal Collaboration Key To Sustainable Development, Says President Tinubu by Leobankx(op): 11:42am On Jan 15, 2025
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assured a global audience Wednesday in the United Arab Emirates that Nigeria is ready to work with other nations to build a resilient, equitable, and sustainable world for all.

President Tinubu spoke on the second day of the 2025 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week on “From Climate Imperatives into Economic Prosperity: Bridging Africa with the Global Energy Future. ”

The president declared that no single nation can walk the road to sustainability alone, stressing that global interconnectedness demands collective action, knowledge sharing, and mutual support.

The fight against climate change is not merely an environmental necessity but a global economic opportunity to reshape the trajectory of our continent and the global energy landscape.

As leaders, stakeholders and citizens of our planet, we stand at a critical juncture in human history. To succeed, we must innovate, collaborate and act decisively as one global community,” he said.

Reiterating his administration’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions, President Tinubu assured the audience that the Nigerian government had developed actionable programmes in line with global expectations, bearing in mind Nigeria’s economic and political expectations.

We have embraced a vision of sustainability that aligns with global aspirations while addressing local realities. Our efforts are anchored on three pillars: Energy Transition, Climate Resilience, and Sustainable Development. My administration recognises the importance of reducing carbon emissions and a just transition to clean and renewable energy, promoting environmental sustainability and economic growth.

Our energy transition plans, like many nations, are aimed at diversifying energy sources and reducing dependency on fossil fuels, prioritising the transition to cleaner energy sources as a cornerstone of our national development strategy.

He added that Nigeria is developing infrastructure for the widespread use of Compressed Natural Gas and electric vehicles and harnessing the potential in solid minerals to support the green energy transition.

The Nigerian leader stressed that his country is also implementing climate-smart agricultural practices to enhance food security and lessen its destructive environmental impact. These include the introduction of the National Clean Cooking Policy, which aims to promote clean energy, environmental and health benefits, and socio-economic development in the African region.

President Tinubu said the government is working with local communities to implement solutions to mitigate the adverse consequences of the country’s environmental challenges, such as deforestation, desertification, coastal erosion, flooding, and pollution.

These challenges, he said, threaten the livelihoods of millions.

He called on partner countries to collaborate in mobilising resources to tackle these challenges and embrace innovation and technology.

To promote a Green Economy in Africa, we must focus on integrating sustainable practices in all sectors of our economy. These investments are capital intensive and require international support from partner countries, including multinational organisations, development partners and individuals who share our vision of a sustainable, prosperous and equitable future”, he said.

According to the President, “Nigeria became the first country in Africa to initiate funding of green projects through Sovereign Green Bond proceeds, the third issuance of which is in progress. We urge investors to partner with us in this regard. Our administration remains committed to providing an enabling environment for businesses to thrive in Nigeria.

By partnering with global leaders and harnessing the power of technology, we are finding new and innovative ways to address our environmental challenges. We have arable agricultural lands for advanced technological farming, including a bright future for Artificial Intelligence.

President Tinubu commended the President of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, for his invitation and foresight in organising the event.

The event brought world leaders together to exchange views and perspectives on how to address the global challenges of our time collectively.

PoliticsWe Will Prioritize Passage Of Tax Reform Bills – Speaker, Abbas by Leobankx(op): 2:39pm On Jan 14, 2025
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen has said the priority of the House is to ensure the passage of the Appropriation Bill and the Tax Reform Bills.

The Deputy Speaker, Ben Kalu, while delivering a speech on the resumption of the House from the Christmas and new year recess on behalf of Abbas said both bills are pivotal to economic recovery and fiscal stability.

He said: “The legislative agenda of the House for 2025 prioritises the passage of the Appropriation Bill and the Tax Reform Bills, both of which are pivotal to economic recovery and fiscal stability.

"These reforms are essential for broadening the tax base, improving compliance and reducing dependency on external borrowing.

The House will ensure that these reforms are equitable and considerate of the needs of all Nigerians, particularly the most vulnerable.

Abbas said as the lawmakers engage with the budget and other legislative priorities, they must remain meticulous in their scrutiny, ensuring that every proposal aligns with national objectives and delivers tangible benefits to the citizenry.

He was of the opinion that the planned Citizens’ Town Hall on the budget would further reinforce transparency and inclusivity in our decision-making processes.

PoliticsPolice Demand Apology From Amnesty International Over Protest Report by Leobankx(op): 1:07pm On Jan 14, 2025
The Nigeria Police Force said it has written and demanded an immediate retraction and public apology regarding a publication titled “Bloody August: Nigeria Government’s Violent Crackdown on and Bad Governance Protests” written to Amnesty International.

A Tuesday statement by the Force’s Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi said the letter was dated 6th January 2025.

The NPF said the publication which included numerous unsubstantiated claims, falsely accused the Nigeria Police of human rights violations, police brutality, and excessive violence during the August 2024 End Bad Governance protests.

The statement said “Upon careful review and investigation, the NPF categorically rejects these baseless allegations, affirming that the claims are entirely false and without foundation.

The NPF emphasizes that during the protests, the Police acted with restraint and professionalism, even at the highest point of provocation and violent attacks, adhering to global best practices and using minimal force where necessary. “Evidence, including national media coverage, demonstrates the Police’s efforts to maintain law and order while safeguarding peaceful protesters. Criminal elements attempting to exploit the protests were however arrested and dealt with according to law.

The Nigeria Police Force strongly believes that this misleading publication undermines the trust and confidence it has worked diligently to build with Nigerian citizens and residents.

The Force further underscores that such false claims harm the reputation of the organization and demoralize its officers who risk their lives to protect the public.

In light of these falsehoods, the NPF has demanded that Amnesty International issue a formal retraction and public apology within seven days.

The statement added that the failure of Amnesty to comply will prompt the NPF to consider legal actions to protect its reputation.

The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to its duty of safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians, upholding the law, and earning the trust of the people it serves,” the statement added.

Amnesty had accused the Nigerian police of using excessive force against protesters during the nationwide #Endbadgovernance demonstrations between 1-10 August, killing at least 24 people in the states of: Borno, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Jigawa and Niger.

In all cases, Amnesty said the victims were shot by the police, firing live ammunition at close range often at the head or torso, suggesting that officers were shooting to kill.

Two survivors suffered injuries after being shot by police in the arm and legs, others were suffocated by the indiscriminate use of tear gas, according to the human rights organisation.

People in Nigeria witnessed unbelievable lawlessness as security personnel fired live ammunition at peaceful protests. The death toll could be higher than 24 because of the authorities’ desperate efforts to cover up the atrocities. Peaceful protest over government policies is now a matter of life and death in Nigeria,” said Isa Sanusi, Director of Amnesty International Nigeria.

The Nigerian authorities must hold the police and other security agencies to account for unleashing deadly force on people who did not constitute an imminent threat to lives. It is shocking that police have engaged in flagrant denials of wrongdoing despite public evidence to the contrary, and this speaks to their utter disregard for the sanctity of human lives. President Bola Tinubu must constitute an independent and impartial investigation of human rights violations during the #Endbadgovernance protests.”

SportsDoping Ban: I Attempted Suicide Four Times, Says Divine Oduduru by Leobankx(op): 10:25am On Jan 11, 2025
Nigerian sprinter, Divine Oduduru, has finally opened up on his six-year ban from athletics, noting that he still has his own side of the story to share even while he has attempted suicide four times, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Oduduru was banned in October 2023 over doping violations after the Athletics Integrity Unit said there was “overwhelming evidence” against the former world junior silver medallist.

The violations were possession of prohibited substances and attempted use of a prohibited substance or method.

Although he didn’t test positive, Oduduru’s case was linked to that of team-mate Blessing Okagbare, who was banned for 11 years for doping in 2022.

Over a year after the pronouncement, the Nigerian athlete broke his silence and promised to shed more light on the incident.

"Thanks to everyone, to my lovely fans who have been supporting me right from the beginning of my career. I know a lot of you have been waiting to hear from me about the issue that happened,” he wrote via Instagram on Friday.

"I have been quiet all this time due to my mental health. I attempted suicide four times just wanted to end everything because all these things that happened are still a shock to me.

After all these years of sacrifice, I will be granting interviews and I am working on coming live on Instagram to tell my side of what happened,” he said.

He holds personal bests of 9.86 seconds for the 100m and 19.73 seconds for the 200m.

The 28-year-old is a two-time Nigerian national champion and also a four-time NCAA champion while running for the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

PoliticsSunday Dare Slams Bauchi Gov, Bala Mohammed For Irresponsible Politics by Leobankx(op): 7:30pm On Jan 10, 2025
The Presidency has accused Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, of engaging in “irresponsible politics” and failing to prioritize the welfare of his constituents, many of whom it described as among the most impoverished in the country.

In a strongly worded statement released Friday morning by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the Presidency expressed disappointment over Governor Mohammed’s alleged preoccupation with political grandstanding instead of addressing the pressing challenges facing Bauchi State.

Governor Bala Mohammed is playing irresponsible politics instead of addressing the numerous challenges facing Bauchi State.
“The people of his state, who still rank among the most impoverished Nigerians, deserve better leadership and governance,
” the statement read.

The Presidency further criticized Governor Mohammed for allegedly diverting attention from critical state issues by targeting the administration of President Bola Tinubu. It noted that while President Tinubu remained focused on implementing reforms to drive national development and economic recovery, Governor Mohammed appeared more interested in using the federal government as a “diversionary tool.”

The statement challenged Governor Mohammed to reflect on his achievements in improving the lives of Bauchi residents.

President Tinubu has a national mandate to deliver on his promises, and Nigerians are already seeing the positive impact of his reforms. Meanwhile, the question for Governor Bala Mohammed is simple: what is he doing to make life better for the people of Bauchi State? Has he utilized the increased resources at his disposal to improve their quality of life?

The statement also emphasized President Tinubu’s dedication to fostering collaboration with state governments and stakeholders to enhance Nigerians’ well-being. It warned that any attempts to undermine the federal government’s reform agenda were “self-serving” and “undemocratic.

Governor Bala Mohammed has yet to respond to the Presidency’s allegations as of the time of filing this report.

PoliticsConducting Elections In Nigeria Huge Burden – INEC Chair Yakubu by Leobankx(op): 7:10pm On Jan 10, 2025
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has decried the cost implications of conducting elections in Nigeria, describing it as exorbitant and burdensome.

Yakubu stateld this on Friday while defending the 2024 budget implementation before the National Assembly.

According to him, despite INEC being one of the largest employers in the country, it operated on a reduced budget of N40 billion, significantly lower than the N80 billion initially requested.

The INEC boss stressed the financial strain this has placed on the commission’s ability to carry out its responsibilities effectively.

He appealed to the lawmakers to organize a retreat where both the legislature and INEC can collaborate, exchange ideas, and find solutions to the pressing issues affecting the electoral process in Nigeria.

We need a major conversation, the commission cannot continue conducting elections all year round,” he said.

He further lamented the deteriorating state of INEC’s facilities, particularly the 860 buildings across the country, which are in urgent need of repair.

Yakubu, therefore, called on the National Assembly to ensure that the electoral body, which has now submitted a 126 billion naira budget proposal, receives adequate funding.

PoliticsSoludo Has No Projects Except Those Killed By Kidnappers – Rev. Fr. Ebube Muonso by Leobankx(op): 11:26am On Jan 10, 2025
Fiery priest Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma, also known as Fada Ebube Muonso, has once again criticized Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, claiming that the governor has not accomplished a single project in the state.

The priest was reacting to the rising spate of kidnappings in the state. He and Soludo have been at odds since Obimma publicly condemned the level of insecurity in Anambra, accusing the governor of incompetence.

Speaking to members of his congregation in Uke, Idemili South Local Government Area, on Wednesday, Obimma expressed frustration, saying that Anambra, once regarded as a top-tier state, has now been surpassed by other South-East states.

He said: “Just the other day, the president was in Enugu to commission some projects in the state. In Anambra, what do we have to commission?

Anambra under Soludo has no project to commission, except the blood of the innocent killed by kidnappers. Even the roads the governor claims he is building are all substandard. Go and look at them.

The priest also took a swipe at the state’s Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, who recently described him as a false prophet in a published article.

Obimma said: “One thing that is good is that I’m the one they are attacking. They will meet their end soon. All of them — those media rats writing nonsense against me — they will see.

Instead of channeling their efforts to tackle the problem of insecurity, they are busy attacking a man of God. Just yesterday, on Tuesday, two Reverend Sisters were kidnapped at Ajalli. This government has failed,” Obimma declared

PoliticsAppeal Court Orders Fresh Hearing Into Kano Emirate Tussle by Leobankx(op): 11:08am On Jan 10, 2025
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has ordered a fresh hearing in the legal battle over the disputed Kano Emirate involving Alhaji Nasir Ado Bayero.

The Appellate Court, in a judgment delivered on Friday, held that Bayero was denied fair hearing due to the shoddy manner in which a Kano High Court conducted proceedings against him.

Justice Mohammed Mustapha, who delivered the lead judgement, stated that the Kano High Court was unfair to Bayero by conducting proceedings without serving him a hearing notice to enable him to present his case.

Justice Mustapha held that all courts of law are bound to ensure justice for all parties by giving them equal opportunities, adding that the conduct of the proceedings against Bayero amounted to a travesty of justice.

Specifically, the Appellate Court held that Bayero ought to have been served with a hearing notice to allow him to present his grievances before judgment was delivered against him in what it described as a shoddy arrangement.

The Court of Appeal, therefore, ordered that the case be remitted to the Chief Judge of the Kano State High Court to be reassigned to another judge for expeditious determination.

Justice Mustapha did not award costs against the respondents in the appeal filed by Ahaji Ado Bayero.

PoliticsInflux Of Bandits: Afenifere Asks Governors To Beef Up Security In South-West by Leobankx(op): 6:11pm On Jan 09, 2025
The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural and socio-political organization, Afenifere, has called on governments in the South-West to beef up security in the region.

The call followed reports of the influx of bandits into the South-West.

The body made the call in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Jare Ajayi, following an alarm raised by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, that bandits being dislodged in the northern part of Nigeria are camping in parts of Oyo State.

DAILY POST recalls Makinde, while speaking at the 2025 annual inter-faith service for workers held at the Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, on Monday, disclosed that bandits being dislodged from the North-West of Nigeria are infiltrating his state.

During a security briefing this morning, I learned that some bad elements from the North-West are relocating here due to military heat in their zones,” Makinde said.

Reacting, Afenifere noted that the disclosure, coming from the Chief Security Officer of a state is not something to be treated with levity.

The organization therefore called on all the governors of the South-West to, “as a matter of urgency, hold a meeting to map out strategies to expel the bandits from the region and to ensure that such elements do not infiltrate Yorubaland at any time again”.

For these objectives to be achieved, there is the need to carry certain groups along.

These are the security agencies that will implement whatever security decisions are reached, traditional rulers and heads of local vigilantes known as ‘Ode’”, the statement said.

Afenifere added that whatever strategies that were devised should include functional up-to-date equipment for those who would be on the fields, attractive incentives and the deployment of modern technologies to assist in identifying the bandits and their hideouts.

While urging security agencies and citizens not to take the issue of security lightly, Ajayi concluded by saying that traditional rulers and community leaders in different parts of Yorubaland should not keep quiet whenever they notice any indication of security threat.

For example, until the governor made the revelation on Monday, such grave security danger was unknown to members of the public, yet there are people living in the Fashola area where the bandits were reported to have established a camp.

It is not unlikely that similar camps could be found in some other parts of the South West, hence the need for urgent and effective action,” the statement added.

TravelLagos To Integrate Korope, Danfo Into State Bus Initiative On Lekki-Ajah Axis by Leobankx(op): 2:26pm On Jan 09, 2025
The Lagos State government has reiterated its readiness to integrate mini and midi buses, popularly known as ‘korope’ and ‘danfo’, operating along the Lekki-Ajah axis into the state’s Bus Reform Initiative.

In a statement on Thursday by the Director of Public Affairs, Ministry of Transport, Bolanle Ogunlola, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, disclosed this on Wednesday during a meeting with relevant stakeholders in Alausa.

He explained that the project is in its planning phase and will commence once all arrangements are finalised.

Reviewing the progress made so far, Giwa revealed that the documentation process for bus operators interested in the scheme is ongoing, with 10 operators having submitted letters of intent to the Ministry of Transportation, of which six have already been confirmed.

He further stated that all participating buses will undergo physical verification by the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) and Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA) to ensure their roadworthiness and proper documentation. Once verified, the buses will be branded in the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) colours and equipped with validators.

Giwa noted that a framework is being developed to integrate union dues deductions into the e-ticketing system while also addressing the activities of hoodlums who extort transporters along the axis.

He stressed that the initiative will be test-run for three months before full enforcement. He said that once the programme is implemented, minibuses (korope) will no longer be allowed to operate along the Lekki-Ajah expressway but will be deployed to inner routes and communities.

Present at the meeting were the Permanent Secretary of MVAA, Mr Rasheed Muri-Okunola; General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki; representatives from LAMATA, LASDRI, VIS, and directors from the Ministry of Transport, amongst others.

PoliticsRe: I Have Never Seen Poverty Like This – Sowore Laments Hardship Under Tinubu by Leobankx(m): 1:56pm On Jan 09, 2025
This same Sowore who helped the opposition topple GEJ's government is still lamenting, fuel was N97, a bag of rice was 7k, Nigeria's economy was number 1 in Africa, inflation was low and Sowore called GEJ names, used Sahara reporters to spread propaganda against the government, only for PMB to come on board, snub Sowore and worsen Nigeria's economy.

Sowore is the first opposition politician I have seen attacking another opposition politician for opposing the government in power.

Sowore should better hide his face because he was part of those who brought this mess on Nigerians.
PoliticsCONFAB: Government Wants To Compensate Seyi Tinubu And Friends, Sowore Alleges by Leobankx(op): 10:42am On Jan 09, 2025
Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore has alleged that the planned national confab to be set up by the Federal Government was to compensate the son of President Bola Tinubu, Seyi and his friends.

He stated that the confab would not yield any positive result.

President Bola Tinubu had in his nationwide broadcast on October 1 said he would set up a 30-Day National Youth Confab for youths in the country to discuss and address challenges confronting them.

Considering this, I am pleased to announce the gathering of a National Youth Conference. This conference will be a platform to address the diverse challenges and opportunities confronting our young people, who constitute more than 60 per cent of our population,” Tinubu had said.

But appearing as a guest on Lunchtime Politics on Wednesday, Sowore stated that the current administration wants to compensate the youths “who are in the corner.”

The agenda is to compensate some young people who are in their corner. These young people they are calling to a conference are probably Seyi Tinubu’s friends, not Nigerian youths,” he said.

They cannot afford to have the real youths on the table. If I am invited, I will not go because I know in advance that this is a joke, nothing will come out of this.

They want young people to feel like, ‘Oh, they belong.’ If you come to a national youth conference, they get it livestreamed, they will get them compensated and at the end of the day, nothing will come out of it.

Sowore argued that youths do not need a national conference if they truly want to take over power.

He added that the young people who are serious about governance would team up in unity to actualise their plans.

PoliticsTake Battle To Camps Of Bandits, Terrorists – Tinubu Charges Army by Leobankx(op): 10:30am On Jan 09, 2025
President Bola Tinubu has urged the military to proactively take the war against insurgency to the camps of bandits and terrorists.

He gave the charge following the recent attacks on the military base in Damboa, Borno State where some soldiers lost their lives.

Tinubu particularly emphasised that the fight should be focused in the Northwest, where these criminals continue to threaten the lives and homes of innocent villagers.

He expressed his profound sympathy to the military authorities following the loss of six brave soldiers during a dawn terrorist attack on January 4, 2025.

His condolence message was contained in a statement on Thursday, by Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, where the President sympathised with the families of the fallen soldiers, whose sacrifice in defending our nation will forever be honoured and remembered.

In the wake of this tragic event, he called for a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident and ensure that it serves as a valuable lesson to prevent similar occurrences.

His words, “I must commend the armed forces for their swift and decisive response, particularly the air component, in launching effective retaliatory strikes.

The targeted air raids resulted in the significant neutralisation of numerous terrorists and the destruction of their assets as they attempted to flee.

This resolute action by the Army demonstrates the capability and readiness of our military to confront and defeat threats to our nation’s security. Their actions testify to our resolve to eradicate terrorism and banditry, paving the way for a future where peace and security prevail for all Nigerians.

I extend heartfelt gratitude and sympathy to our military and security forces on behalf of a grateful nation.

Your sacrifices and dedication do not go unnoticed, and we stand firmly behind you in this ongoing fight to eliminate these threats.

I urge the military to proactively take the war to the camps of bandits and terrorists. He particularly emphasises the Northwest, where these criminals continue to threaten the lives and homes of innocent villagers.’
