Politics › Bad Policies Reason Tinubu And I Not On Good Terms – Bala Mohammed by Leobankx(op): 12:03pm On Jan 08, 2025 |
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has openly criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, accusing him of implementing policies that are detrimental to the country’s progress and well-being.Speaking during a courtesy visit to Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, the Chief Promoter of the Muslim-Muslim Ticket, Governor Mohammed described Tinubu as a leader who does not listen to the voices of the people. He expressed frustration over the president’s refusal to address the hardship caused by his administration’s policies.
“Tinubu and I are not on good terms because his policies are causing hardship for the citizens,” the governor stated, adding that the northern region has been particularly affected by the recent tax reforms proposed by the federal government.
The governor emphasized the North’s economic vulnerabilities, noting that many states in the region heavily depend on federal allocations for survival. He warned that the tax reforms would exacerbate the region’s challenges, plunging it into further economic strain.
“The North, unfortunately, heavily relies on federal allocation to survive. The reforms he is proposing will put the region under dire strain,” he said.
The governor urged Sheikh Jingir to use his influence to appeal to President Tinubu to reconsider his stance on these policies.
“Thank God you are alive today to use your wise words of wisdom in this regards because us politicians tend to use harsh words in our approach, i believe you can inform the change we require” the governor emphasized.
He called for a more inclusive approach to governance that prioritizes the needs of all Nigerians, particularly the economically disadvantaged regions. https://dailypost.ng/2025/01/08/bad-policies-reason-tinubu-and-i-not-on-good-terms-bala-mohammed/

Politics › 2027: Expect Reality, You’ve No Support In Kano – Ganduje To Kwankwaso by Leobankx(op): 9:34am On Jan 07, 2025 |
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Abdullahi Ganduje, has said the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, ex-presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso has no support in Kano State.Ganduje said Kwankwaso should expect reality in 2027 because the Kwankwasiyya movement is done in Kano State.
He spoke during the 8th and 9th APC Kano State House of Assembly Forum Dinner held in honour of prominent party members yesterday.
Represented by the APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, Ganduje said those who supported Kwankwaso in the past are regretting it.
He said: “I am always surprised when Rabiu Kwankwaso claims he has the people’s support.
“I can swear to God, if not for our internal issues, he (Kwankwaso) wouldn’t have won any election in Kano. This time around, he will see the reality.
“Those who supported him before are disappointed and full of regret. Kwankwasiyya is done, and even the governor is unaware of everything happening around him.”
He also charged APC members in the state to unite in order to reclaim Kano from NNPP in 2027.
“Unity is the only way out for us. It’s the only option we have to achieve our goals. God has already intervened in our situation.
“The current government is distorting the state, and we are just waiting for the right time. The next election will be like moving a hen away from its eggs,” he added. https://dailypost.ng/2025/01/07/2027-expect-reality-youve-no-support-in-kano-ganduje-to-kwankwaso/

Politics › People Will Insult Me, But I Know What It Takes To Build A Nation – Tinubu by Leobankx(op): 7:18am On Jan 05, 2025 |
President Bola Tinubu says people may insult him but he knows what it takes to govern and build the country. The president made this statement in Enugu on Saturday during a meeting with stakeholders from the south-east geopolitical zone.
DAILY POST reports that the president was in Enugu to commission projects initiated by the state governor, Peter Mbah.
The projects commissioned include 30 smart green schools, 60 completed type 2 primary health centres, and the 19-kilometre Airport-New Haven–Bisalla and Okpara Square roads.
At the meeting, the president told the south-east stakeholders that the removal of petrol subsidy was necessary to build the nation and protect the interests of future generations.
Tinubu said he understands the difficult nature of his work before contesting the 2023 elections.
"You are all members of one big, huge family called Nigeria but living in different rooms in the same house.
“This house, we must build it. Build it to satisfy our immediate need, which is not going to be enough yet but for tomorrow too. That is why the removal of the first subsidy was necessary.
“You cannot spend the future of generations yet unborn in advance. Don’t bankrupt the nation before they are born.
"I know people will fight, grumble, and abuse me, and everything, but I asked for the job. I know what it takes. I believe in myself, and I believe I can gather a very good team and build a nation.
“It is our country. We have to work really hard for it to build a nation that we can be proud of. Change the narrative—negative comment about Nigeria.
“I’m not taking that (negative comment). I’m very proud of Nigeria. You all should be proud of Nigeria,” he said. https://dailypost.ng/2025/01/05/people-will-insult-me-but-i-know-what-it-takes-to-build-a-nation-tinubu/

No fewer than six passengers have been abducted as Armed bandits attacked travellers on the Shinkafi road near Kwanar Jalaf village under the Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The incident happened on Tuesday morning when the assailants abducted six passengers travelling in a Golf car and set the vehicle ablaze, further heightening fears among residents and commuters in the area.

Residents of the area told Channels Television that the armed men blocked the road, forcing the vehicle to stop before carrying out the abductions and torching the car.

Politics › I Will Build On 2024 Achievements In 2025, Wike Tells FCT Residents by Leobankx(op): 2:52pm On Jan 01, 2025 |
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has assured residents of Abuja that he will continue with reforms from 2024 in the New Year.In a statement he issued on Wednesday, the minister after reeling out projects embarked upon in 2024, said massive infrastructural development is a key driver of economic growth and improved quality of life.
Wike continues to face criticisms, especially following the demolition of communities and the reallocation of lands in the FCT.
He said “Dear Residents of the FCT, Happy New Year!
“As we enter 2025 with renewed hope and optimism, I extend my warmest wishes to you all. And pray that this new year brings peace, progress, and prosperity to every household within the FCT.
“I also wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to you for cooperating with the administration in implementing its policies and programs. Your support and understanding have driven our vision for a better FCT. I also commend your commitment to peaceful coexistence and care for each other throughout the past year
“While challenging for many, 2024 was admittedly remarkable for the FCT, as we recorded significant achievements that have set the foundation for sustained development.
“These accomplishments demonstrate our collective effort and commitment to building a prosperous, unified, progressive FCT.
“Among our key achievements over the past 12 months are: Massive infrastructural development, including the construction of new urban and rural roads, has dramatically improved connectivity and accessibility for residents, and rural road development has significantly enhanced economic activities in our rural communities, creating opportunities and improving livelihoods.”
He said his office also prioritised education by rehabilitating several schools, ensuring that students learn in conducive environments and that the future generation is empowered with quality education
“Our efforts to enhance security which included the provision of over 100 vehicles to the various security agencies and implementation of bolder and innovative strategies have yielded positive results. Residents can now sleep peacefully at night, confident of the safety of their neighbourhoods.
“The creation of the Mandate Secretariat for Youth Development and other administrative changes implemented during the year have improved efficiency, accountability, and service delivery, strengthened governance, and made it more responsive to residents’ needs.
“By fostering an enabling environment for foreign and local investments, the FCT witnessed visible economic growth. This has been particularly impactful in rural areas, where infrastructural improvements have sparked economic activities and development.
He said his office in 2025, remain resolute in building upon the 2024 achievements.
“Our focus this year will remain on: Massive infrastructural development, as a key driver of economic growth and improved quality of life will continue.
“ Enhancing healthcare, education, and agricultural sectors, ensuring that every resident can access essential services.
“Tackling public transportation challenges through private sector participation will commence in earnest, easing transportation issues and ensuring smooth mobility for residents.
“Expanding programs for youth employment and positive engagement to harness the energy and creativity of our young people for the development of the FCT.
“Meeting our tourism potential.
“Building upon our achievements in the security sector,” he said.
He continued “Fellow residents, we must also recognize that sustainable development requires the active participation of all residents. I urge you to meet your civic obligations by paying taxes, dues, and levies as applicable, as these are essential for generating the revenue needed to fund developmental projects.
“Let us remain committed to ensuring that the FCT continues to stand as the proper Centre of Unity, upholding the dreams of our founding fathers.
“This administration remains steadfast in its determination to transform the FCT into one of the best capital territories in the world. We can achieve the collective dream of a thriving, and prosperous FCT by supporting His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and working together in unity and cooperation.
“Together, let us embrace 2025 with hope and determination and may this year bring us closer to realizing our collective vision for a Federal Capital Territory that reflects the highest ideals of progress and unity.

Politics › Food Queue Stampedes Not Limited To Nigeria, Happened In US – Minister by Leobankx(op): 7:10am On Jan 01, 2025 |
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Nentawe Yilwatda, has blamed poor organisation for the food queue stampedes recorded in parts of Nigeria during the 2024 Yuletide season.Yilwatda, who was a guest on Channels Television’s 2024 Year-End Review, said food queue stampedes were not only limited to Nigeria but have been recorded in advanced parts of the world like the United States.
“Stampedes have taken place in more developed countries than Nigeria,” the minister said.
“If you recall, Hurricane Katrina in the US, when they had food distribution because of poor organisation, they had stampede.
“Also, in the school food distribution in Texas, in the US, the same thing happened. It has happened in several countries that are more developed than Nigeria where you have poor organisation.”
In December 2024, three major food queue stampedes were recorded in Oyo, Anambra and Nigeria’s capital city Abuja. About 70 lives were lost in the unfortunate incidents which many have blamed on hunger and the high cost of food. The private organisers of the food distribution programmes have been detained by the police.
The humanitarian minister boasted that the Federal Government is the biggest distributor of relief materials to the poorest of the poor in Nigeria. He said the government distributes relief materials more than private individuals yet no stampede has been experienced in government programmes.
Yilwatda encouraged private persons willing to donate relief items to Nigerians to get the proper organisation right and seek the ministry’s help. https://www.channelstv.com/2024/12/31/food-queue-stampedes-not-limited-to-nigeria-happened-in-us-minister/

“The Federal Government has provided most of the required documentation to the Finnish Government, so I’m confident the right steps will be taken.”

Politics › Open Grazing: Months After Wike’s Threat, Cows Roam FCT Roads Freely by Leobankx(op): 10:28am On Dec 31, 2024 |
August 23, 2024, marked exactly one year since the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, promised to end open grazing in Abuja.“We will consult with the herdsmen to see how we will stop [open grazing] because we cannot allow cows inside the city,” Mr Wike had said in August 2023.
In March 2024, during a meeting with the Belgian Ambassador to Nigeria, Daniel Bertrand, Mr Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, reiterated this stance.
DAILY POST, over the past 16 months, monitored major spots around the city and satellite towns to assess the implementation of the policy. The findings reveal that cows are still grazing in the city.
In August 2024, a large herd of cattle was spotted around the Defence Headquarters, moving majestically in the middle of the road during working hours.
Similarly, in September 2024, another herd was spotted very close to the newly constructed residence of the Vice President, opposite the gate of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
There have been similar sightings of cows across the city despite Wike’s threats and promises as minister.
“The minister is gradually coming to terms with the ‘politics of cattle’ within the context of Nigeria,” Shefiu Adio, a resident of the city and a taxi driver, told DAILY POST when cows blocked the road near the traffic light close to the Defence Headquarters.
Mr Adio explained that the conversation around cows has become highly politicised, adding that such an order by the minister is seen as targeting northerners, who are predominantly involved in cattle rearing.
“Wike must understand how delicate the situation is in Nigeria when it comes to cows.
“In Rivers State, that order would have been obeyed without question. However, in Abuja, seen as the capital where everyone is equal, his directive would be seen as an attack against northerners,” Mr Adio said, as many passengers in his vehicle fumed over the audacity of the herders.
DAILY POST observed open grazing in 16 locations across the city, including Asokoro Extension and Guzape. Along the Airport Road, herders graze their cows on grasses growing on the highway.
To many residents, these cows are openly referred to as “government children.”
Some residents have expressed optimism that the recent creation of the Ministry of Livestock could lead to more practical solutions.
“Rapid urbanisation is not helping matters. Many Fulani communities have been displaced, and areas that once provided grasses for cows now have estates on them,” Umar Ubandawaki, who runs a cattle stand at Deidei Market, said in a phone interview.
DAILY POST gathered that many herders’ settlements in Katampe, Sabo Lugbe, and other rapidly developing areas have been displaced by developers.
“The minister must offer better solutions rather than threats,” Mr Ubandawaki said.
This is not the first time Mr Wike has made pronouncements that were largely ignored.
Some months ago, he ordered the removal of beggars from most parts of the city.
In some instances, they were forcefully removed. However, the beggars still occupy several places within the FCT. https://dailypost.ng/2024/12/31/open-grazing-months-after-wikes-threat-cows-roam-fct-roads-freely/

Sports › CAF Sanctions Libya Again Over Benin Republic Incident During Afcon Qualifiers by Leobankx(op): 11:06am On Dec 30, 2024 |
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined the Libyan Football Federation (LFF) $50,000 and ordered the country to play two matches behind closed doors. In a statement on Sunday, CAF charged Libya with “misconduct” during and after the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification game against the Benin Republic in Tripoli on November 18.
Gernot Rohr, head coach of the Cheetahs of the Benin Republic, had recounted how the Libyan police assaulted him and his players “with batons” after the game, which ended goalless.
The goalless draw was enough to ensure the Benin Republic qualified for the 2025 AFCON, while Libya stayed outside the qualification zone at the bottom of the group.
According to Rohr, the Squirrels were set upon by Libyan authorities and fans after the final whistle.
Videos that surfaced online showed some Benin Republic team members massaged injuries with ice packs following a reported attack in their dressing room.
In its ruling, the CAF disciplinary board “found the LFF guilty of violating articles 82 and 151 of the organisation’s disciplinary code for the behaviour of its supporters and officials during and after the match”.
Libya’s latest sanction comes three months after the country was also punished for the treatment of Super Eagles during the AFCON qualification campaign.
Ahead of a game scheduled for Benghazi, the Nigerian national team’s flight was diverted to Al Abaq airport, and the players and coaches were held for over 20 hours without food and drinks.
Libya eventually forfeited the game and was fined $50,000. Nigeria was also awarded three points and three goals. https://www.thecable.ng/caf-sanctions-libya-again-after-police-assaulted-benin-republic-players-during-afcon-qualifier/
