Good afternoon Ma.
I had my first interview Dec 22nd and I was asked to submit another affidavit of financial support (or get a co sponsor) at either of the collection centres with my passport which I did the next day Dec 23rd. I was called on the phone Dec 31st that it isn't enough we need to find another Co sponsor with tax documents from 2011 and email when we have it. I did some time after the new year and I was scheduled for an interview last Friday Jan 16th. My fiance's sister Co sponsored and my visa was approved, I was asked to collect in one week and even given a paper to pay the $165 green card fee after collection . I just got another call that I should come for yet another interview but she wouldn't give me any info, I'm distraught as I thought we were done with the interviews and getting close to ending the distance I keep going back and forth from Benin to Lagos and It's not easy to keep paying for accommodation and all. My fiance and I would very much appreciate it if you could look into our case and at least tell us something or maybe the call was an error? It would be a huge blessing to us if you could help.

If I am a marriage counselor, yes no worthless marriage will survive my tutelage. They are not even wedded! Dragging someone kicking and thrashing to the altar will always end in regret. Aunty ooo, no one does this in Edo state, that's sugar coating it or trying to justify wrong doing. Am I the only one who saw the pic of them kissing? That is an example "right of passage" into marriage i.e traditional marriage.

I have heard of traditions like this where you have to officially get a woman to be recognized as a man in the locality. To alot of people, this might look like a marriage but it is possibly a manhood and womanhood initiation for them both. The two of them might have never seen each other again. Do a better investigation before concluding. All the best....

I am new here and in need of some good advice. In nov 2013 i married my Nigerian husband (i am American). I have been very good to him and given him anything he has needed to survive and prosper. Saying i love him dearly is an understatement. As i love my husband as if he were part of me. We have had some issues mostly because of cultural differences.
I financially supported him for 8 months while his paperwork was processing to allow him to work here in the USA. Eventually his paperwork went through. He obtained employment but just 3 weeks later quit his job to return to Nigeria for his sister's wedding. I agreed to this because i understood the importance it had and i understood that his father was deceased and he is the oldest son. I understood there was a role he needed to fulfill to his family. I didn't like the idea that after months of assuming complete financially responsibility for our home i would have to continue longer nor the idea of him leaving for 3 weeks but i supported not just our bills but helped him finance his trip.
His trip almost destroyed our marriage as many things went wrong while he was gone. I had reached a point i had considered divorcing him but then i found out i am pregnant. He came back home and our life has went on.
Now 5 months later i found pictures of him and a woman. The comments told me they were getting married. Now i know for sure his sister got married when he traveled and i know for sure these pictures are him.
I have confronted and he has explained that he didn't marry the girl but only done an introduction thing to be able to pass from a boy to a man. However i found these pictures on Facebook from the girls page. Many things he is saying don't add up to the details of the pictures and situation but at the same time because of culture differences i know that there could be things i simply don't understand.
For days i have not slept ate worked nothing. The photos shocked me and upset me enough to go into preterm labor but fortunately i was given medication that has stopped labor for now. But this issue is driving me mad as i can't understand it. I don't know what to believe or who to believe. I have looked at my options and i can either divorce him or remain married. Either way if he didn't marry her or did he has cheated and defiled our marriage.
What do i do? How do i know what's true? How can i can restore peace of mind and happiness? How do i find truth? How do i know if he married her?

I honestly wish there is something nicer or less painful to say but the truth is... He just used you.. There are no words to sugar coat it to make it acceptable or techniques to make it disappear just take each day as it comes focus on being healthy and strong for your baby put your energy and love into caring for the baby it would help you take your mind off it however temporary. I really dislike men like that go about giving Nigerians a worse name than we already have ugh!! He most likely married her so you have to do your best to move on I can't tell you to divorce him or have him reported to the authorities that's pretty much your decision to make. However I can tell you to survive and keep living your life, pray, yes, pray.. It helps.. Time heals all wounds.

Yes, that could happen but it depends on the couple if they reach a conclusion on how they want to run their lives early on irrespective of who is richer it shouldn't be an issue no matter what people say cos the truth is ppl will always find stuff to say. Also a woman who is controlling will still be controlling whether she has loads of cash or bits of peanuts.One can't base every woman off that as some men genuinely are interested in seeing their ladies soar and some ladies know not to take men like that for granted by walking all over them.

Hmm sorry I have to wonder why this is an issue? After marriage shouldn't the hubby and wifey "draw one rope" Husband+wife=1. Financial situation could change any time and if the woman isn't rich doesn't that set the family to hunger? I thought it should be "us" and "ours" instead of "yours" and "mine" after marriage. It really doesn't matter who is richer or poorer as long as they're not hungry, they are comfortable and it doesn't become and issue of power and control.

And that was how Phema became a mum of a BBB on the 5th of Dec, 2014! My boy came at exactly 36weeks+5days!

Got into Phoenix on the 25th of Nov and went for my financial appointment the next day. Afterwards, I went to book for Dr's appointment, but the lady in charge had closed for the day. They worked half day that day cos the next day was Thanksgiving. So, I was told to call after the Holidays to book for Dr's appointment.

I called and was given 11th of Dec to see the Dr. I tried explaining to the lady that I was far gone and would be 37weeks plus at the time and that I really needed to see the Dr ASAP. But she insisted that was the earliest I could get. That they were fully booked. I asked what to do if I fell into labour before the said date, and she said I should go straight to the Labour and Delivery department.

Some days after, I started having some labour-like symptoms. I just ignored them cos I felt baby could not come that early as all the scans I did back in Naija never gave an inkling of baby coming that early. Well, I was wrong, cos the contractions became stronger the next day. Called MIHS labour and delivery unit to ask what to do. Was transfered to a Nurse who advised to watch and time the contractions. And to come in when they become stronger and close together.

I still couldn't believe it was labour though. I just sat at home and kept watching and timing till it became almost unbearable. I went in and found I was already 4cm dilated. For my mind, I say huh! Just like that? So, na person mama I wan be today today so. It was both scary and exciting. They checked and said my fluid was low and baby was quite small. Asked for my medical records and I told them I had not even seen a Dr here. They asked if I had any scan from Naija. Fortunately, I had one which showed I was 36weeks plus 3days gone. The lady ran a quick scan and said she was getting about 34weeks. I insisted I was 36weeks plus.

That was the moment they started running all the tests that could have been run on my first appointment. Took me to the labour room and called the NICU people to be on stand by as they were expecting a "Premie".

I requested for epidural. Was given and it felt heavenly! At some point, the baby's heart beat dropped and I saw the highest number of Drs in my whole life in just a second. One was giving me oxygen, the other was breaking my water (my water had not broken at that time). Others were sha operating plenty equipments. I was so so scared and pratically shivering all through. They managed the situation and told me not to worry. That my baby was doing great.

Then I became 10cm dilated and the pushing began. Hehehehehehehe. No be small something. Couldn't push well cos I wasn't feeling my contractions cos of the epidural. I was merely wasting my energy, thinking baby will soon pop out. After awhile of wasted effort, the Nurse advised that the epidural be put off so I could feel my contractions and know when to push. That was done and it took effect after about an hour 30mins.

I will jump and pass the pushing part. The pain! Oh the pain! I cringe anytime I remember. Was wondering how God will let anyone go through such pains. Chei! I said and did things I can't even remember. The Drs and Nurses were so so nice and patient. And kept urging me on. Hmmn. . . The pain. . .

Fastforward. . . Baby eventually came and the NICU people were already on ground to evaluate him. They did, said he was doing ok but since he is preterm, they will need to do extensive evaluation. At that point, I called their Chief and told her that I didn't want my child put in NICU if there wasn't any serious issues. She assured me that the child will be brought back to me in about an hour if he passed all his tests. As God would have it, he did pass them. And he was brought back. I was so happy.

Everything went well from then onwards. Truth is, I never expected the kind of services I got. It was awesome!! Everyone seemed way too nice and professional! They kept coming every 30mins to check up on me and baby. Kept asking if I needed anything and all that. I didn't use anything I went to the Hospital with as they provided everything needed by mum and child. I was just too impressed abeg. I couldn't believe I got all that for just $2888.

Na so Phema waka become Mama born-boy! I'm just really grateful to God for everything. It could have only been Him. Baby is doing so great. Mum is still sore here and there, but she's getting better. However, nothing prepared me for these sleepless nights mehn. I dey on duty all the time. Hope it gets better with time.

And that was my experience. Got the baby's BC and already applied for his US passport at the Post Office. Once I'm done with the documentation, I'm sure rescheduling my flight and going home much earlier.

Pls if you are from Edo state or as history of Benin City kindly help with vital info, I'm 6months old here in Uselu. My experience here is horrible, I came here as a student in June & out of anxienty of where to stay, I rented an apartment in Edaiken (without consultation, oh, I regret), the ordeal that follows are:
1. There is no light @ all (d arrangement was they will bring the light by 6am & take it by 8am, bring it again by 12pm & off it by 2pm, till 6pm which was to last for 2hrs as well, until 12midnight & for 2hrs, it will rotate like that everyday) but as am typing this now, there as being no light for some days now.
2. If no light, commercial water seller will not sell,
3. Erotion as almost swept some houses away (don't know if my rented house is next).
4. Pit toilet is a norm here.
5. When it is 8pm, stay indoor (the fair of Wole-wole is the beginning of ....)
The list go on &.
I do visit other part of Benin, it's not so, now, my question is, have I commit an offence for renting a house in Uselu?

Sorry to hear about your ordeal I'm from Edo state been here all my life so I can confidently say that's not the case everywhere although the light thing is almost a norm just get out of uselu and try other locations for example Oliha gets more light than most and some parts of ring road get light too or buy that I better pass my neighbor gen to support. Borehole water is what most people use the government owned water board must be infested by rats and spiders now cos it hasn't been in use for as long as I can remember buying water isn't expensive I know 5naira can get you a fair amount. Sorry o? Just try finding a better place that offers Borehole to the tenants most are even free.

Oh yeah where did you find pit latrines? That house should be in a museum o.. Really? Na WA o..

Yes everything will be fine. I feel it's cos she set expectations for you and hoped that you would follow what she set, live up to it or even surpass it. It prolly seems to her that you disappointed her or sth . Yes your hubby isn't the type of man she expected you to marry but she should let it go. What you need now is support not criticism, she shouldn't mock you over one little thing that happened she should put herself in your shoes for a change and try to see what you're going through. She didn't forget that you worked hard in S.A she just finds it easier to accept that you are now out of work and dependent on her... I wish moms didn't have to be so difficult at times my mom criticizes me every chance she gets, if I speak up I'm difficult to talk to, if I don't speak up then she "advised" me smh.. Sorry to hear what you are going through. I feel you're going through this because you're still dependent on your mom. I can relate. Maybe it's the getting old thing but my mom is like that some times. She doesn't feel like my fiance and I can make it cos of distance and we're young so it's like every time she opens her mouth to say sth about us it seems like she is mocking us. I came across your thread while trying to find info on the visa process i honestly didn't think the consular officers were allowed to discuss visa issues outside the embassy i thought it was "forbidden" lol well my fiance applied for the k1 visa for me and we got our noa2 September 18th my case number is LGS2014758022. We were asked to get our medicals and police certificate ready before the embassy in Lagos contacts us i am scheduled to do the medicals the 24th and we already have the police certificate. My question is what is our status currently, i am curious and somewhat worried too. thank you Ma for your response.

No. Industrial physics and Geophysics and 2 different disciplines. In fact Geophysics is more specialised in the area of Exploration for minerals, Oil and gas, Ground water etc which Industrial Physics does nt cover in depth.
However an industrial Physics graduate can be employed in d Oil and Gas sector especially by servicing firms in areas like Measurements/Logging While Drilling (MWD/LWD), Wireline and Slickline operations and even in HSE as a Radiation Control/Management personnel.

I say this because i am in my final year at uniben studying industrial physics and we have just two courses in geophysics no separate geophysics discipline unless in MSc i hope to work in the o&g sector someday. I even went for the HSE and did some computer courses from what I've researched so far i was thinking of doing sth in drilling next year but its better to be informed that's why i asked. Do you have any suggestions for me? Thanks again.

Unfortunately, the most in-demand occupations require specific skills that can only be acquired through experience.

As an oil and gas professional, I have followed the trend and revolution in the industry globally over the past few years. I also follow technological breakthroughs (especially the fracking technology in the US that is redefining the dynamics of the industry worldwide), oil discoveries and hiring patterns all over the world. Based on these trends and statistics, I have come up with a compilation of the top 10 in-demand occupations in the oil and gas industry. This is not limited to the to the industry in Nigeria. This is based on global demand.
I can guarantee that you will always get a quality job (somewhere around the world) if you have at least 5 years experience in the fields. If after gaining five years experience in any of the top 10 fields mentioned below, you lack a well-paying job for more than 6 months, you better go and see your pastor or imam for deliverance. 1) Geoscientists
2) drilling engineers/ drilling supervisors/driller

No (1) & (2) With recent oil and gas discoveries all around the world including Africa (East Africa and the Gulf of Guinea) and the aggressive exploration for oil all over the world, there is a very high demand for geoscientists (geologists and geophysicists). Geoscientists are involved in the exploration for oil and also in the initial stages after oil discovery. Drilling engineers/ drilling supervisors /drillers are involved in drilling operations (both for exploration and production). There is an shortage of experienced drilling engineers worldwide. A colleague of mine who is drilling engineer told me that he has already received two good offers via linkedIn (even without applying!). And he barely has 3 years experience!

3) subsea engineers
4) subsurface and completions engineers
5) pipeline and piping engineers

No (3) - (5) With oil companies going into the more uncertain but rewarding deepwater operations, there is a high demand for individuals with deepwater experience. Subsea engineers design, implement and maintain structures, tools and equipment used in underwater components of offshore oil and gas production. Pipeline engineers design and maintain subsea pipeline in offshore fields. You can't ignore subsurface/completions (well) engineers who ensure oil is produced at optimum level from oil wells.

6) Marine specialists / engineers
Marine specialists are very critical in oil and gas industry. You need marine professionals in offshore oil and gas operations. This is because of the constant use of marine vessels and boats for supply and transportation of crude oil, liquefied gas, food, equipment, etc. Besides, the increase in FPSO's (floating vessels for oil production in deepwater fields) all around the world requires the specialized skill of marine professionals to maintain vessel stability on the sea.
Believe me, marine specialists are on top of their world. I know a marine specialist that has worked for 3 major oil companies in Nigeria in the last 8 years.

7) Offshore maintenance technicians
These are the mechanical, electrical and instrumentation technicians working in rigs and production platforms both onshore and offshore. There is a high demand for them globally. And the minimum requirement to become one is just an OND.

( Truck drivers and crane operators
Yes, you read right! There is a high degree of lifting operations in the oil and gas industry and certified crane operators are in demand. Believe me, they earn well.
Truck drivers are in great demand too, especially in US and Canada where there is a significant onshore oil production. Truck are needed to move rigs and equipment, haul oil, water and sand away. The new fracking technology that has made USA self-sufficient in oil production requires constant evacuation of sand from drilling sites. The drivers are also expected to be mechanics, able to fix to fix their large trucks. 9) Tax accountant
The oil and gas industry is technology driven, thus the technical professionals are the most demanded. However, the only non-technical profession to break into the top 10 is accounting. With oil and gas companies always the easy targets for governments and public ministries in areas of tariffs, royalties, taxes and other deductions, the role of experienced oil and gas accountants become critical. There is a crying need for accountants (especially tax accountants), who can balance the books and ensure sustained profit.

10) Reservoir Engineers
Eventhough this list is in no particular order, I think reservoir engineers are actually No. 10 on the list. The reservoir engineers play a significant role in the oil and gas industry. Their job is identify oil and gas reserves and develop strategies to maximize recovery and conducting simulation studies to ensure the optimum recovery.
