Which one do you consider MORE important, QUALITY or DURATION?
Bro, u seem not to get my point undecided

Quality anytime. But the quality is not here.

Let's talk about duration :
Most firms have an age limit for their entry level vacancies. I see maximum of 26 these days.

Now tell me why someone who graduated after more than 4 years for a 4-year course will feel happy, especially when he got admission in his twenties?

You and I were just fortunate our school didn't go on strike.

Jack of all trade is invalid. Only your first year takes you across the board from second year, you start yo have your cores and optionals which could be either directly related or cutting across again.
What I would say is that our institution faculties still leave in the stone age, no practicals, no real work expetience even in a simulative form.
Our faculty team carried out no realistic research that could turn round the nations beating positively.

I must also say that graduates of most world class universities do not also get to practice what they've learnt
Only in first year? No no.

for employers, duration... Cos u must be below certain age to get their jobs. For employees, or potential employees, quality. Though they too wouldn't want to stay that long in school.

I believe the person who posted this is a grduate, and amoungthe people waiting for the government to provide a job for you, well u made a 9c ppointbt I'll tell u something, if knowledge aquisition through the university is success, the Proff ll be the richest, I humbly advice every Nairalander and as Nigerians, /et something be it crafty or other wise and do, and attract the government with it!
I love u all I mean no disrespect
Graduate? Yes. I'm not among the people waiting for government ooo. Waiting for government is like waiting for Burnley to win Champions League.

The sad part is spending 4years+ learning nothing. An apotheosis would be as in the case of some of our engineering graduates. After spending 5 years, majority still won't be able to apply knowledge acquired during undergraduate study to real life situations. What's the point then if you ask me? Majority even end up not practising. Afterall "passion" won't pay the bills so I really do not blame them.

Until we get it right, Until the government does something substantial & enduring about the educational sector, Until our leaders stop sending their kids abroad to school & see for themselves what it is like to school here in Nigeria, the
re won't be any progressive change.

Nice write-up L. ero15.
Thanks, bro.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS PEICE! I CANT AGREE LESS. WE HAVE AN EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM THAT IS OUT OF TUNE WITH MODERN TREND IN ALL AREAS OF KNOWLEDGE. THE ENTIRE SYSTEM IS ARCHAIC! THOSE WHO DEVELOP CURRICULA ARE MOSTLY LIVING IN THE PAST. YOU HAVE HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD. THERE IS NEED FOR TOTAL OVERHAUL OF THE SYSTEM.

NO INNOVATION. NO CREATIVITY. THE MANAGERS JUST DONT WANT CHANGE! DECISIONS ARE TAKEN BASED ON SENTIMENTS AND PERSONAL GAINS IN POLICY AND PROGRAMMING. SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS HAVE TOO MANY SUBJECTS TO HANDLE. WE REFUSE SUGGESTIONS TO EVEN LEARN FROM OTHER COUNTRIES PARTICULARLY IN AFRICA. ....

Hmm!I concur with what OP indicted to a reasonable extent.imagine a biochemistry student in OAU offering maths and physics in d second year with only 2 more years to spend in school.it's biochemistry, not biotechnology.meticulously looking at this,it's devoid of any iota of sense.in the same vein, students of microbiology substantially start doing their MCB in d 3rd year with only a more year to spend in school.it's perspicuously ostensible this evidently implies the previous years are nothing but a complete rejectamenta.our educational sector needs to be ameliorated.ipso facto,d gargantuan greed of our circumstantial leaders exacerbates more the situation.
Yes, bro!

you've gat good points OP, buh its a bit too harsh to judge those years as a waste.. our institutions are only preparing us for what to face in the outside world, so i wont call the year one courses irrelevant.. recently, our government scrapped biology as as a general subject, now i have siblings who know nothing bou the way their body works, why they grow hairs on some of their body parts.. m sure you dont want that for graduates out there.. m an industrial chemist and i wont look like a fool in the midst of plant biologists, a zoologists etc.. and yes, m a better by far graduate n i know nothing bou strike..
short duration and quality are what I crave, fellow alumnus.

I think you've both made really good points. Flexibility and versatility are very important, but when a student is taking completely unnecessary courses just to stay in school, then it becomes a problem.

I think we need a complete overhaul, re-evaluation and cleansing of our educational system. We're still using the same theoretical method of teaching our forefathers and the missionaries used.
U are right, sis.
