There's one issue though, win 10 does not automatically create restore point. So, if restore points aren't available, then option 2 is way to go.

And yes, it might be a hardware issue. A faulty keyboard or a keyboard that's about to fail can cause your track pad to stop occasionally.

Ps: when you say "touch pad", guess you don't mean the touch screen...
