Politics / Massive Redeployment In The Nigerian Army by letilotu(m): 6:35pm On Jul 14, 2020
In response to the increasing rate of insecurity in the nation, the Nigerian Army
In a statement announced this monday by Col. Sagir Musa will be redeploying some of its high ranking generals and senior officers. While this may be a step in the right direction, it is not enough. There have been a huge clamour by stake holders for the Service chiefs to vacate their posts as they have served way beyond their service years as stated in the constitution. There is a huge backlog of officers and soldiers alike who are due for promotion but can't be promoted as a result of this. This is bad for moral and will add to the long list of problems plaguing the military. This government came into power largely on the promise of establishing peace and security, that promise has not been fulfilled, instead there has been a steady increase of it. Our boys have fought a long and hard war against a better equiped and motivated adversary under very harsh conditions. They have gone nights awake, that we may sleep with all eyes closed, and died that we all may live. They deserve all the best that they can get. As 2023 draws closer it will be shameful for the administration to leave the nation worst off as it met it. Can this be remedied, we cant tell but as they say; "it is better late than never". Meaningful action must be taken now.

Health / A Bite From This Tick Might Make You A Vegetarian by letilotu(m): 9:18am On Jul 11, 2020
In our part of the world, it is a rarity to find someone who does not enjoy eating meat.
Meat’s special combination of fat, carbohydrates and amino acids interact together in a process called maillard reaction during cooking. This produce aromas so pleasant that they make us salivate and go weak at the knees.
How ever this might come to a sorrowful end if you are bitten by the lone star tick.
It is a type of tick common to much of the Eastern United States and Mexico, that bites without causing pain, frequently going unnoticed and staying attached to its victim for as long as a week until it is swollen with blood.
According to mayo clinic, the bite transmits a sugar molecule called alpha-gal into the victim's body. In some individuals, this caused an immune system reaction that later on triggers mild to severe allergic reactions to red meat, such as beef, lamb and some mammal products like milk, cheese, gelatin etc.
Now each time you ate one of those foods, some hours later you will be plagued with swelling of the lips, face, tongue and throat, diffuculties in breathing, diarhoea, wheeze, nausea and possibly anaphylactic shock. This is the severe reality of those unlucky enough to eat red meat of any type after experiencing a bite from the Lone star tick.

Phones / Samsung taking out charger from it's upcoming flagship phones by letilotu(m): 5:42pm On Jul 10, 2020
Are you planning on buying a Samsung flagship next year, get your charger and other accessories ready as a report from Korean news site ETNews indicates Samsung may not include chargers in the boxes of some of its smartphones starting in 2021. The company is taking them out because many people already have chargers and this will help reduce costs, the report says.
While not including a charger in the box might seem like a big move, Samsung reportedly isn’t the only top phone manufacturer considering it.
According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple may do something similar with this year’s iPhone without including a charger in the box (sobs...). Apple can also eliminate the 5W and 18W chargers that currently come with iPhones (depending on the model you bought) and will offer a new 20W charger, which will be sold individually. Removing chargers from phone boxes could be an important way for Samsung and Apple to lower their phone sales costs and lower their phone package size, but it can also have a significant impact on the environment. Taking them out of some of the top-selling smartphones could help reduce the number of chargers that get thrown away by people which end up polluting the planet.
In my opinion, this development, coupled with the steep prices of this devices will further alienate budget buyers.

Health / See The Top 3 Corona Virus Fighting Robots by letilotu(m): 5:31pm On Jul 10, 2020
The covid-19 pandemic has been a huge strain on global healthcare systems. Robots however have significantly reduced the risk of infectious disease transmission to healthcare workers by making it possible to treat patients from a safe distance. The following are some of the best robots involved in the fight against the novel virus.

VIOLET
Violet is the creation of Akara Robotics, a firm based in Dublin, Ireland. At the emergence of the pandemic, they began modifying an open-source machine named TurtleBot to work as a mobile disinfectant unit using ultraviolet light. In 24 hours, they had created a working prototype for tests in hospitals. Like all UV cleaning robots, Violet is basically a huge mobile lightbulb. It moves slowly around, giving out ultraviolet light powerful enough to break apart the genetic material inside the virus. Studies shows that UV light is potent against many coronaviruses including SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus strain responsible for the Covid-19 pandemic. Consequently, autonomous UV cleaning robots have been utilized not only in hospitals, but a range of spaces where the risk of infection is high e.g airports, hotels, train stations etc....
